Weekend Nuggets: Great Woods ’94

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

phish-great-woods-94-metAs we continue our virtual download tour of the Summer ’09 venues, right after Jones Beach comes Great Woods.  A site of so many Phishy evenings throughout the years, few were more exciting then this two night stand in ’94.  The first night featured the last performance of the Gamehendge saga.  Entering the alternate reality via a dentist’s chair, we were off on the last full narration of Trey’s senior thesis right as the show began.  With Phish unlikely to ever bust out the story again, this is a must have show for any collection.

I: Llama > N2O* > Lizards > Tela > Wilson > AC/DC Bag > Colonel Forbin’s Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird > The Sloth > McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters > The Divided Sky

II: Rift, Sample in a Jar, Reba > Y-Rushalayim Schel Zahav, It’s Ice, Stash, You Enjoy Myself > Frankenstein > You Enjoy Myself, Julius, Golgi Apparatus

E: Nellie Cane, Cavern

First set contained a complete “Gamehendge” narration. *The idea was being in a dentist’s chair, with the gas slowly putting you to sleep, and on your way to Gamehendge.

The band followed up the legendary first night with a second night filled with Phish anthems.  Both sets were absolutely scorching, but set two was something special.  Check it out.  This is some great Phish.

I: Runaway Jim, Foam, Gumbo > Maze, Guelah Papyrus, Scent of a Mule, Down With Disease, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Run Like an Antelope

II: 2001 > Split Open and Melt, Fluffhead, Poor Heart > Tweezer > Lifeboy > Sparkle, Big Ball Jam > Harry Hood, Suzy Greenberg

E: Sleeping Monkey, Tweezer Reprise

TICKET UPDATE: I guess Tickemaster hasn’t been cut out of things, because when you go to their scalping website, TicketsNow, the entire sumer tour is up with hundreds of tickets for sale.  Who the heck knows at this point?  Hey, it’s only $375 for an orchestra seat for The Fox and $431 for two to Asheville!

RUMOR MILL ’09: (Reminder: Rumors are things I hear that I do not know to be true.  When I hear something I feel would be interesting to people, I post it.  Nothing is confirmed until you read it on Phish.com)

For what it’s worth, this was posted by SOMEBODY on Phantasy Tour today.  This is NOT me speaking:

“The same source that gave me the scoop about summer tour told me that there will be no dates in august, and no red rocks. he said that fall tour will start in early to mid-September on the west coast, possibly at the gorge and go until early October. thereafter, there will be a short break followed by east coast dates ending with Halloween at MSG. take it for what it’s worth, but the dude was spot on about the routing for summer tour. he said that big cypress is being discussed, but that the band is exploring some “new” options (i.e., other than MSG, Miami or BC).”

Does anyone know how to use the “.rar” files with a MAC? I’ve found decompression programs for Windows, but none for a MAC.
    Thanks

  4. RebaReba Says:

What a great 4 sets of Phish. You have Gamehendge and all the classics … and then some. Thanks for these nuggets, Miner.

  5. Chicago_Head Says:

doesn’t $375 per for The Fox Theater seem quite cost effective?

  6. cason Says:

TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT BUYING TICKETS FROM TICKETSNOW,

YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!!! STOP PAYING ANYTHING OVER FACE VALUE!!!

EVERY TIME YOU BUY A TICKET FROM TICKETSNOW YOU ARE ONLY ENSURING THAT THIS PRACTICE OF LEGALIZED SCALPING WILL CONTINUE.

CANT GET A TICKET FOR FACE?

    THEN DON’T GO.

SORRY. BUT IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THIS BULL SHIT YOU MUST SACRIFICE. TRADE IN THE LOT OR BUILD BETTER NETWORKS.

DONT BITCH ABOUT THESE RIDICULOUS TICKET PRICES WHEN YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

  7. Mr.Miner Says:

For .rars on a MAC, download the free program Stuffit Expander. (like winzip for .rars)

And about the scalping thing….I just can’t see that changing at this point, not when its been “legalized” by facades like TicketsNow….blows

  8. FULL TOUR: ANNOUNCED! Says:

^^^ well stated cason. I couldn’t have said it better. On one site there is already someone bragging that they are “guaranteed” fox theater tickets because they already bought them early from some scalper site. If only that person realizes that they are stealing those tickets from someone who could have gotten them for face value in the lottery or public onsale date. Not to mention the fact that there are no tickets even in existance yet. I have been tempted to go the scalper route, but the morr i think about it, not only will I end up being ripped of $$$$ wise by paying out the ass for a $50 ticket, but the whole scene is getting worked over by these asshole scalpers.

I’m gonna try my luck in the lottery and public onsale and if i don’t come up with anything, i just won’t go. Its that simple. You gotta realize that all those $400 tickets could have gone to real fans for face value in a legit manner if they wern’t already stolen and marked up by these scumbags at these ticket brokers. I wonder just how many of the Asheville and St. Louis tickets thesescumbags have already taken out of the hands of real fans (who cant afford these marked up prices)…..i know its hard to resist, but if worse comes to worse, i’d rather not go then know i had my wallet stolen by ticketsnow.

  9. Camman Says:

i’m going to try the lottery first… then the public sale… and if i dont get a ticket to fox, i will be paying $375.

thats just the way it is

  10. Chicago_Head Says:

off topic, sorta….how much do you pay for your internet service?

  11. Henry Holland Says:

Since I’m only going to be able to do a West Coast leg of any of tour, no problem for me if the dates are in mid-September instead of early August, it’ll give me more time to save money! However, rain might be a problem at some of the outdoor places…

Mr. Miner, thank you so much for your downloads. My favorite years are 1994 and 1995 and I just spent 74 hours (!!) downloading a show from 12/28/95 because only one seeder was on the BT I got off of bt.etree.org. I’ll gladly trade a little sound quality loss from the .mp3’s for having it take only 20 minutes to download an entire show.

  12. snigglebeach Says:

I think the reason Tickets Now has tickets up is because all venues have ticket liscensed seats. Seats that are individually owned for any event.

Plus radio stations get the inside track on some tickets as well. And people that work there, that are probably supposed to give them away, sell them as well. I have bought tiks from someone at WBCN, way back in the day, but i only paid face value. I knew he was basically robbing the station, but i still got a fair price. Wish i still had that connection.

I bet despite not having the rights for the whole show , TM also has some or maybe a lot of liscensed seats too.

Also was wondering if maybe TM took the same amount of tiks for themselves, as Phish did. Hampton seats approx (guessing) 17,000. Say Phish lottery took 5,000. If TM took the same number and gave them to TiksNow, that would leave about 7000 for public. that # seems to coincide with what we have seen.

Thanx to the few who responded and said they did get tiks through TM on the onsale day. Glad to hear someone got lucky. Going to borrow that official World Clock idea. seems as good a place to start as any.

change the subject a bit- ive never seen phish- im 21 so a little young- just curious about tailgating at alpine valley- is it a cool laid back scene or do they have the riot police

  14. FULL TOUR: ANNOUNCED! Says:

^^^ pretty laid back….just be safe…and be smart

  15. RebaReba Says:

Anyone else having a problem with the .rar files? They say they need a password …

  16. RebaReba Says:

NVM, unrarx is just better than MacHacha

  17. brewcrew87 Says:

so anyone know somewhere to camp near alpine valley- i want to avoid the state parks- cant find much else

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

^^ Bong State Rec Area. fact 🙂

  19. Chicago_Head Says:

plenty of camping you will see en route. no worries. only advice is be extra safe and stay away from the police on the horses.

  20. JP Says:

No offense Mr Miner but your “scoop” on the summer tour was a ton of dates, the majority of which didn’t come true.

  21. Mr.Miner Says:

^ how so? That tour was just passed along to me. And who knows about west coast or fall. All they ever are were rumors. I hope people don’t think I have any inside word…..

  22. Mr.Miner Says:

oh, that quote was from someone on Phantasy Tour– not me.

  23. JP Says:

That ginormous list of dates you posted several days ago. None of that came true. I’m not bashing you at all because I know they are rumors. I guess I just felt like when you said today that the person who told you no 2nd leg gave you the correct dates on the 1st leg I am wondering why the info regarding the 1st was never posted on here….

  24. Mr.Miner Says:

I did not write that paragraph. It was posted on Phantasy Tour by somebody else. How can I make that clearer?

  25. JP Says:

As is the thing today about no 2nd leg. PT just seems like a source to stay away from regarding info. But obviously it is your site. Thanks for the good music everyday.
