Weekend Nuggets: Texas, Fall ’95

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

phish-austin-95Regardless of how sketched out one can feel being on Phish tour in Texas, the band always played great shows in The Lone Star State.  This weekend we have Phish’s three-night Texas run from Fall ’95, each great for its own reasons. The first night in Fort Worth saw the bust out of “Tube,” the debut of Bowie’s “Life on Mars?”, a nice combo of ‘Theme > Wilson > Antelope,” and a one-two punch of “Split, ‘Fluffhead in the first set.

1995-10-14gnThe second night saw Medeski, Martin, and Wood- then not so famous outside of NYC- jam with Phish for an extended and experimental “YEM.”  A smooth ’95 “Reba” kicked off the second set while a dark “Stash > Catapult” highlights the first.

Fish played vacuum and trombone. Billy Martin played Fish’s drums. Medeski and Page played keyboards and Page did vocal jamming at the end. The third night (and second in Austin) was back to pure Phish, and what night it was.  After the adrenalizing opening combo of “Buried Alive > Poor Heart,” and a dramatic third song “Slave,” one knew this would be a special night.  The rare “Demand” and a tight  “Foam” held down the middle of the first set, while a 20-minute “Bowie” put the frame to rest.  The second set was filled with classic Phish songs including standout versions of “Tweezer” and “Harry Hood.”

PHISH ALLEGEDLY KILLING IT IN REHEARSALS

11-08rehearsalTrusted sources close to the Phish organization have reported that the band has been playing amazingly well in preparation for Hampton.  People who have talked with the band have said they the band is incredibly psyched and wish Hampton was tomorrow.  Others who have heard the rehearsals have been floored by what’s been going down.  Take it for what its worth, but this is not made up. Two more weeks!

About the rehearsals… oh man. (wtf, first comment) I got a nice little saturday planned.

  2. Baxter Says:

1995, a great year for Phish. I also remember getting chased all over parking lots with t-shirts that Phish security wanted to take!

I always look forward to getting your freshy downloads each AM Mr. miner, so nice.

Is there anyway to hear some of these practice sessions? After seeing Classic TAB at Albany & Boston, I know from Trey’s energy that the new music will be HUGE, and I can not wait!

  3. Mutha_Ohks Says:

do we know which songs have been heard rehearsing?

  4. Read Icculus Says:

    …details man, we need details……

  5. cottle Says:

Keep the fall ’95 shows coming, Mr. Miner! How sweet it would be if they could ever pull a 50+ night tour again in 3.0.

  6. c0wfunk Says:

I have to say all of this talk about rehearsals has me giddy as hell. If we could have the band as tight as say, 1992 when they were rehearsing all the time, but with the soul, swing, and jam prowess of the later years, we’ve got ourselves something grand!!

During the rehearsal that the above picture was taken from, there was a thread on phantasy tour that listed the songs they were playing, though I can’t recall many .. I remember Reba and the Curtain being on the list, but that’s about where it ends. Maybe someone else read that or has more info?

  7. Mitch Says:

    These shows look BOMB!

as far as the rehearsals go… if anyone hears that they are playing, will you please post on the site?? I have the next couple days off and would love to go hear the boys down in chelsea. trey has been around the city, my friends and i have seen him, but hearing them play… money!

if i hear them, i’ll let you know what songs have been going down.

  8. harry_hood Says:

I’d give my left nut to listen to/be present at these rehearsals.

  9. makisupapete Says:

only the left nut? why the right?

  10. makisupapete Says:

    why not the right*****

  11. Billy Breathes Says:

    guys & gals…

what do you think they’re playing at rehearsals, Beyonce, Pink, Eminem, Jack Johnson, Coldplay?

    come on….they’re playing PHISH songs.

    DOH!

  12. kbill23 Says:

    love the 2001->maze

  13. Pencilneck Says:

All this rock-teasing has me too riled up. I keep looking around the net in hopes of finding hamptons at bargain basement prices, even though there’s little chance of me being able to go anyhow. One can dream. Somebody’s gotta watergate those rehearsal sessions! Miner, merci for the tasty download!

  14. Big E Says:

Any new info on Greg Doucettes simulcast petition?

  15. jaime Says:

Where are they rehearsing though? We need an adress. I’m in the nyc area and would love to go down and see if I could hear anything

  16. Davey Says:

Oh man I’m bummed I’m not going to the Hamptons but it’s incredible news that Phish is back at it and loving what they’re doing. Hopefully sober Trey takes us above and beyond what we’ve previously experienced.

  17. lot rat Says:

First mention of rehearsals, good stuff. Looks like same picture from december though that got leaked.

gonna be off the hook in 13 days

  18. eric Says:

Damn i wish I was going to Hampton. So jealous! I’m crossing my fingers for red rocks>shoreline>gorge. If I can’t get tickets to my hometown show at RR and am effectively priced out of attending by the scalpers, I really won’t know what to do from there.

  19. burndog Says:

I have not been to Hampton before. Anyone know what the lot scene is like or are there going to be any pre-parties going on? Just curious.

  20. HYHU Says:

Id give my left nut for some fluffhead

  21. Hooks Says:

I’m no tour veteran, but I’ve been to Hampton in ’99 and that last one in ’04. Lot scene includes a pretty big row of shakedown up and down the main tree canopy sidewalk leading up towards the fountain in front of the coliseum. and everywhere else is free-for-all goings on as usual throughout the far reaches of the lot. any parking area whatsoever remotely near the outside of the main parking lot is also buzzing with activity. I’m not an expert with dealing with authorities, but I think many agree hampton seems to be known for a reasonably laid-back police situation. I remember in fall ’99 sitting outside a fast food restaurant in the grass outside the main lot passing one around, and seeing cops walking by 20 yards away, and for some reason I wasn’t worried. They just want people to be safe and not being dumbasses. but thats just MY impression. easily one of the reasons it’s so great to phish there. the pre-party is the lot. and the various surrounding sites and sounds invading the town. Given the scope of THIS Hampton weekend, nobody knows exactly how the place is really bracing for it. at least not me. i’m trying to stack the karma, and looking for my miracle, lol.

  22. Hooks Says:

btw, do you think miracles can happen for less than 150-200 bones. I guess thats why its a miracle…

  23. Hooks Says:

I just remembered, thank you mr. miner. I f**kng LOVE mmw.

  24. kevin are hollo Says:

i have to give a quick thank you for posting this little fall 95 gem.

listening to the SplitOpenAndMelt and jeeeeeezus, does trey fucking find a scary tone and shout at the devil!

it’s like something is being sacrificed onstage! an angry harpy! a frustated linda blair!

then they bring it back! but it’s still hellish, like hell-o-ween! he’s still fucking riding that murderous tone!

please, someone else listen to this so we can be scared together.

    hugs,
    kev

  25. lot rat Says:

12 days and the lot awakes…Melt
