Weekend Nuggets: Red Rocks ’95

Phish @ Red Rocks (CoventryBlog)

Phish @ Red Rocks (CoventryBlog)

Everyone vividly remembers Phish’s four-night stand at Red Rocks during Summer ’96, but by that point, the band had already played five shows at Colorado’s live music mecca- one in ’93, two in’94, and these two in ’95.  This two-night stand came towards he beginning of Summer ’95’s space camp.  Featuring extended and exploratory improv every single night of tour, the band reached some incredibly dark places. Check out the “Split,” “Bowie,” or “Mike’s” for musical illustrations of this type of jamming.  Enjoy the history of Red Rocks, as the future will soon be written!

  2. EJ Says:

Happy Birthday, Mr. Miner! I cannot begin to thank you for all the offerings this site brings.

  3. wizzle1986 Says:

totally off topic here, but I’ve always wondered about one specific part of Trey’s tone that was particularly prevalent during ’99 jams, it sounds like a guitar solo played backwards that you would hear on a Beatles album, for good examples listen to Memphis’ 9-29-99 2001 (after 16 mins) and the DWD from that same show (8 mins onward) both of which can be streamed on phishows.com, this is obviously a guitar effect…what is it called, what does it do, how could one describe this “type” of jamming, any thoughts much appreciated

  4. hairy pood Says:

sounds like a reverse delay. my boss dd-5 (and all later models) include this feature. essentially plays what you just played back at you, backwards. so if you slide up from c to d, it will slide back down from d to c right afterwards. it is possible to modify an echoplex (analog delay with built in tape loop) to do the same thing, but you wouldn’t have the option of standard delay any more.

  5. wizzle1986 Says:

    sounds right, thanks

  6. Davey Says:

They say it’s your birthday. Dah dah dun dun dun dah dun dunnn gonna have a good time. Doobie Wah wah ding bang dooo they say it’s your birthday. Diddly doodly ding wap dee doo gonna have a good time.

In short, happy birthday Mr. Miner.

  7. Mr.Miner Says:

guy- you were four short blocks from my apartment at Kezar! Should have hit me up, would have definitely cruised down for a bit.

  8. Mr.Miner Says:

wizzle, i know exactly what youre talking about….no idea what it is but that sounds right hairy….

guy- or you could have come up and hit up some hibbage…..ah well…

  9. hairy pood Says:

digital technology means you don’t have to flip tape reels over to get reverse sounds. what a strange world, to think i’m about to record on tape with all vintage analog gear. sometimes i question my sanity, then i realize it never came to me.

  10. eric Says:

Happy Birthday Mr. Miner. May your all your PTBM lottery dreams come true. Hopefully, see you at Red Rocks.

  11. Mitch Says:

    Miner, Happy Belated B-Day dude.

  12. guyforget Says:

Next time, Miner. Will be up for a week+ in the upcoming months to manage a project downtown. my friends live on 43rd & Balboa and will most likely be staying with them. I will be sure this project does not interfere with phish dates!

  13. guyforget Says:

holy shit, just got my clifford balll dvds. watched disc 1 last night. hands down best dvd release so far. not only the fact that they were smoking that whole weekend, but just the way it’s shot. not too trey heavy, and their playing looks so effortless and like they are just having an absolute blast. End of summer festival would be tits, but i’m not getting greedy.

  14. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

^ there is hidden bonus material scattered throughout the clifford ball dvds….

one i found is during the “antelope”…press enter, or start, at the part when you first see the acrobats on the ropes.

^ guy I just got through disc3 cann’t believe all the good times i remembered.I got together with my wife dec 96.,so she wasn’t at the ball with me.though she dances around the room as we’ve watch these discs’, she cann’t relate to the feelings I have for this dvd set.(birthday gift.).I thought I missed the first day set, but when i watched the divided sky and remembered being in the crowd thinking only phish could time the pause perfectly with the setting sun.truely amazing, and i was there.

  16. gtgwbab2495 Says:

has any one else found more bonus material other than the one in antelope? does anyone know for a fact that there even is more bonus stuff other than the one in antelope?

  17. guyforget Says:

how the hell did you guys figure out to push enter during Antelope????

  18. AintNoTele Says:

So I’m new to Red Rocks and want to know if the tarp situation is legit…does security really side with anyone laying down a tarp saving a whole row? I’m not trying to start a war here, a simple “yes” or “no” will do

  19. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

@guy…. i heard it through a friend….who heard it through a friend….who heard it through a friend…who’s buddy told him to press enter during the “antelope.” i didn’t believe it until i tried it….and alas….it was true…

  20. RobAins Says:

^^Seriously! How the hell did you figure that out??

  21. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

    a friend told me….i swear….lol

  22. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

i have no idea how they knew to press enter!

  23. RobAins Says:

Whole Tour: lol…You didn’t ask him the same question???

  24. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

i guess if you watch it on a computer, a little icon appears….

it’s kinda like those simpson’s dvds that have deleted scenes.

  25. WHOLE TOUR! Says:

    i don’t ask questions….i just do as i’m told….lol
