Weekend Nuggets: The Gorge ’97

The Gorge

The Gorge

As the upcoming Gorge shows sold out yesterday, this weekend we will travel back in time to the summer of 1997 and Phish’s first visit to the venue.  Pulling into central Washington at the beginning of August, Phish was midway through their summer of deep funk and this translated beautifully to the open air beauty of The Gorge. The first night was darker and dancy, wile the second was celebratory and triumphant.  After this initial visit, Phish felt right at home at the best venue of the west coast.

we have witnessed the death of the online onsale–

unless you get lucky, you can pull lawns or nothing.

  2. whole tour! Says:

the last shows in hartford in 2000 were the HEAT!!!

  3. Pencilneck Says:

My first internet score ever! Scored 2 hartford reserves. whoo!

  4. cottle Says:

The ticket limit for pavillions was 1. It was no choice at that point.

“but can I bring a few companions on this ride?”

  5. Frankie Says:

    Nice one Cottle!

What a bunch of crooks though! They just shut down the system to give time to their “friends” to grab all the tickets for the second market… It’s unbelievable that this shit is legal… oh well…

  6. cottle Says:

How’d you get 2? It would only let me do one reserved seat, so I went for the lawn.

  7. Mr.Miner Says:

Will trade extra SPAC pavilion for Camden / Merriweather / Darien or Hartford Pavilion

  8. andrewrose Says:

There’s definitely shady tickets shit going with LiveNation. How is it possible to get through online immediately, at 12:01, and be given the option to access tickets on for error after error to pop up? Not only that, but I got through at 12:05 on the phone, and all the woman could tell me was “tickets are no longer available online”. They’re definitely selling direct to scalpers.

And I’ve been patient, getting shut out on tickets for everyone modest show I’ve tried to get since the band got back together… but I’m pretty pissed now, and LiveNation isn’t going to give a shit. I encourage everyone who’s had problems to write to Phish and complain.

  9. Pencilneck Says:

it did have 2 in the pulldown when i got there. man these tix go fast. i still can’t believe it.

  10. Billy Breathes Says:

Miner hit the nail on the head:

we have all witnessed the death of online ticket sales for phish.

something needs to be done and i am happy to help spearhead with phish.

  11. cottle Says:

    Nice score Pencilneck!

  12. cottle Says:

    YO SOAM:

If you’re out there and you still want to do a lawn for lawn Hartford for Merriweather trade…let me know.

  13. Mr.Miner Says:

you can still pull lawns if you want em…

  14. Pencilneck Says:

Seriously. It it basically impossible to get tickets. Thursday friday was a train wreck. Seeing rr tix for 2gees right after being totally shot down is demoralizing. that said. yippee!

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

gotta find alternate ways people…use your noggin!

  16. Pencilneck Says:

Being in canada makes it impossible to buy from a livenation ticket booth. at least i believe so…

  17. A_Glide Says:

Hey all, I need 2 Sat Alpine’s to complete my trade for Gorge tickets. Lawn is fine, anyone got them?

  18. A_Glide Says:

I woke up early today thinking Toyota Park was going on sale. I get to my computer, sit down with my red bull, and then WTF? I don’t even know when shit goes on sale anymore…

  19. chuckditka Says:

Miner- I got ur hartford pavs for spac if interested. i shot you an email.

  20. c0wfunk Says:

it looks like we’re actually going to make this gorge thing happen, I’m a little stunned still and a little wary that it’s too good to be true, but i’m trying to stand firm on my faith.

I forgot all about these 97 gorge shows – they used to be in top rotation of my tapes. The bathtub> foam> samson variation I love and the dwd>tweezer>dwdprise>jbgoode is siiiick… Love them Schoeps too!

  21. cottle Says:

NICE CFunk! Make it happ’n cap’n.

  22. Jer Says:

It is a -little- strange that the only show (Knoxville) that wasn’t offered through TicketsNow….errrr Ticketmaster/LiveNation had tickets available up to 10 hours after they went on sale. I still find it REALLY hard to believe that 20,000 people were trying (and able) to get tickets to a concert in the middle of bum-fuck Washington in less than 5 minutes…no matter how awesome the venue is. What I find really hilarious is the inevitable “re-release” of these tickets by ticketbastard when they realize that no one is paying $500 a pop on TicketsNow. Then again, what the hell do I know, I’m sure plenty of people are willing to pay whatever it takes to get into these shows. If that’s you, then don’t fucking complain about not being able to get tickets when they go on sale…you’re part of the problem…no matter how badly you want to see Phish.

  23. Mr.Miner Says:

I got a nice Hartford pavilion from a friend- thanks for the offers though!

Will trade my extra SPAC pavilion for Merriweather or Darien pavilion.

  24. Exree Hipp Says:

I got 4 lawns through LN for Hartford and it was a sinch. Luck was with me today.

  25. harry_hood Says:

I shot you an email about my extra Darien pavs.

Also, I have 4 SPAC lawns that I am trying to upgrade to a couple of Pavs. I know its a longshot, but figured I’d see if anyone was interested in that.
