Weekend Nuggets: SoCal ’96

phish-pauley-pavillion-96DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Phish concluded Fall ’96 with a famed run down the west coast.  Ending in Las Vegas on December 6th, these two shows came directly before- with a stop in Phoenix in between them.  Both shows illustrate the band’s developing sound, as they finished the tour with far more musical direction than when it began.  Converging in more groove-oriented playing, the transition to funk was underway.  The LA “Tweezer” and San Diego “Mike’s” stand head and shoulders above the rest of their respective shows.  Enjoy the weekend.

  5. punkmug Says:

That JOTD today is insane. Enough to make a grown man cry.

  6. punkmug Says:

I suppose it would be JOTW in this case. 🙂

  7. Mitch Says:

that bug / reprise video is the shiz-nit-o-bam-snip-snap-snap. my buddy emailed it to me last week. seems to be making its rounds.

  8. Al Says:

Quite a massive Mike Gordon Fall Tour announced! Complete September into October! Well, at least he’ll be in shape and well rehearsed for the following tour! 😉

  9. fatbastard Says:

guys, i downloaded the 12.1.96rar file but I can’t open it. I’ve bought music from phish.com and other sites but never had this problem. do i need to winzip it or something?? not computer savy. fb

  10. Al Says:

@fatbastard – you need a converter to mp3 to listen or burn the music. Get the exe tool here for free. If that is what you mean.

  11. fatbastard Says:

thanks al, it worked first try. that never happens.

  12. uncle matty Says:

the sound quality on that hampton ‘bug’ video is pristine. how is that possible from a video camera? is the video just matched to the livephish board? confused and amused…

  13. bcb Says:

^^agreed, the sound quality is great, and the video is nice too. Does anyone know of more songs from this same source?

Also, have to give a HUGE thanks to you, Miner. I’ve been cleaning my house all day blasting a bunch of your Miners Picks on shuffle, and I have yet to come across a jam that hasn’t been mind blowing. You, sir, have a gift.

  14. Phish...Yup Says:

I’ve been doing the same thing this morning bcb. That JOTW Gin with a wake and bake was excellent motivation.

  15. Mr.Miner Says:

    ^ thanks BCB!! That’s great…

BTW…I got further confirmation of Indio for all you non-believers who think that map is anything but a decoy 😉

  16. Corey Says:

Off topic, but of concern to me…

I just opened up my Phish binder with the first LivePhish 20 cds and to my shock, the vinyl cd cases have oozed some sort of goo all over my cds and liner notes. I promise I haven’t left them in extreme heat. They’ve been on a book shelf for years here in Beantown. They always smelled funny, but now this is entirely different. Nothing has been spilled on them or anything!

Anyone else have this problem with their Live Phish?

I’m about to write Phish and see what gives.

  17. bearito Says:

That’s a bummer Corey. I had a few of them melt a few years ago but it was entirely my fault – left them in the car. I had to pry em’ open and scrape of the vinyl from the outside of the disc. Lost the liner notes but the discs lived.

  18. whole tour! Says:

i had the goop on my livephish cds too!

  19. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

Wow, the last minute of that Gin when they return to the theme just put a huge grin on my face. Same thing happened at work yesterday with the Chula Vista Boogie On, when it sounds like they’re bringing it to an end but then it just gets even funkier.

  20. punkmug Says:

i have experienced the goop on the livephish as well.

  21. Bandnana Says:

I too have had the goop. It doesn’t come off with normal cleaner either. You have to use like goo gone or an acetone based product like nail polish remover, but do it carefully or you could take off some of the coloring. A bunch of ones I bought were like that, I was none too pleased.

  22. larry bird flu Says:

miner this gin is absolutely beautiful. excellent call. to whoever said you had a gift is entirely right. thanks again. have a great weekend everyone.

  23. larry bird flu Says:

@rambling the last 5 minutes or so of that chula vista is some of my all time favorite phish, theres one point in there where page does a run on the clav that might be about the funkiest thing ive ever heard.

  24. larry bird flu Says:

    chula vista boogie on sorry

  25. Mitch Says:

That goop never happened to the Live Phish CDs I bought back in the day but some of the ones I got for Christmas this year came like that. I opened them from drygoods (girlfriend is helping me fill in my collection) and they were like that out of the package. Same thing happened with another one she got me from a local music shop. Really sucks. What was worse was that some of the CDs skipped because the goop took off the top layer of the CD so it didn’t reflect when the laser in my player hit that spot. I was able to return them all from where I bought them since I had just gotten them.

Really sucks because that whole series was so cool with its packaging.
