Weekend Nuggets: SoCal ’96

phish-pauley-pavillion-96DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Phish concluded Fall ’96 with a famed run down the west coast.  Ending in Las Vegas on December 6th, these two shows came directly before- with a stop in Phoenix in between them.  Both shows illustrate the band’s developing sound, as they finished the tour with far more musical direction than when it began.  Converging in more groove-oriented playing, the transition to funk was underway.  The LA “Tweezer” and San Diego “Mike’s” stand head and shoulders above the rest of their respective shows.  Enjoy the weekend.

This “Gin” that highlighted night three of UIC’s ’98 stand, saw Trey carry a melodic idea throughout the entire jam, creating an melodic anthem.

Hi: I too have had goop problems with LP releases (1-20) for years, and they make my discs skip too. I found that ripping the discs to my HD and then burning fresh CDs from the wavs worked fine though. Now that almost everything I own is on my iPod or HD, it’s less of an issue, but I think that the problem lies with the materials used in the packaging and not in whether or not they were exposed to heat.

Miner, we’d love to hear your Indio hint, or even a hint about your hint, if you’re willing to share 😉

  2. Mr.Miner Says:

the festival is happening there….hint, hint 😉

  3. Mitch Says:

Weak hint Miner. I think you’re too used to No Spoilers.

  4. Pencilneck Says:

Not fair that it was taken offa the map tho. Those balloons sure did look suspicous. Hmmm.

  5. BillyBreathes Says:

It’s not in Indio! This I assure you.

  6. Bandnana Says:

@Mitch the originals I bought when they first came out were fine. Then the whole thing got stolen! Had to rebuild, thats when the goop hit me. No goop on the actual cd part for me though, just the tops. Now it is rebuilt and clean again, it took forever but I had to.

  7. joe maziarz Says:

Hey my phriends–listen up its in big cypress!!..when are you going to believe me..it’s not a coincidence florida is still up!!..see you at the gorge!!

  8. hossmaster Says:

Listen to miner, the festival will be in Indio. The phrase “save the date” very well may be more than what we think. Like maybe the name of the festival, which coincides with So Cal’s hurting crop industry.

  9. Mr.Miner Says:

“It’s not in Indio! This I assure you.”

    ^ oooookaaaaay 😉

  10. Pencilneck Says:

Indio sounds like the place. NO chance of mud what-so-ever. However, I can’t for the life of me think of a good reason to go thru this whole map rigamarole, if it don’t matter. Unless it’s in Toronto.

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

^it’s a decoy to keep everyone interested bc they leaked the festival at Alpine…come on..this is Phish we are talking about!

  12. Pencilneck Says:

yeah. I suppose. What do I know. I was convinced it was Tom Hanks. So I got no clue.

  13. EL Duderino Says:

They just put Oregon back on the map via 18 wheeler!!!

  14. fikus22 Says:

has anyone seen that they did today, puting either washington or oregon back on the map purposefully? (no offense to the west coasters but i suck at geopgraphy in that corner of the US…)

  15. Marshall Says:

The 18 wheeler filled in Washington state, by the way. Pull out a map once in a while and give it a look.

  16. Marshall Says:

Oh, and I guess there will be no fall Phish tour in the month of September, with the announcement of Mike’s tour. Here’s hoping the band picks up where he leaves off.

  17. EL Duderino Says:

Sorry guys, my bad, yes it is the state of WA.

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

    i see no 18 wheeler?

  19. EL Duderino Says:

You know Oregon would be sick! Have you ever heard of Hornig’s Hideout in OR.? One of the most beautiful places to see a live show. Red Woods everywhere!!!!!

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

ahhh. got it…this is so obviously a joke for anyone who wants to buy into it. You think California isn’t “coming back” now as well? 😉

  21. EL Duderino Says:

The 18 wheeler drives on the map, backs in and puts WA back. Check again Mr. Miner

  22. Mr.Miner Says:

the only feasible states on the mp are AZ and FL…which is great since those are the two “rumors”…these guy definitely have a pulse on the rumor mill and are fucking with everyone….

    …..see you in Indio….

  23. Robear Says:

I think the leak started as early as the Fox. I had friends there that heard the Indio site from some family.

  24. Robear Says:

Hey Mr. Miner. I know I’m a noob on your site. I really enjoy reading each day. Even though we’re past the ‘Mike’s song’ discussion, I wanted to know what you think of the 11/16/94 version. Are there sources for good recordings of the older shows? 94-2000? Thanks for the eloquence. Come say hi at Red Rocks. I’ll be at the Waterwheel booth.

  25. Mr.Miner Says:

    ^ where is 11.16?
