====
X only punk band you love
no Clash love mr. C
London Calling is near perfect as far as I’m concerned
X is great though
X is great, The Knitters ever greater – the semi acoustic drunken rockabilly version of X…Poor Little Critter In The Road
pretty cool way to keep up the obsession. Always like to keep us rivited.
never loved the Clash, like, but not love
that’s a good album, have heard it a million times without starting to hate it which says a lot
Mongo only pawn in game of life.
See Mr C I still see it as the Who, Stones, Beatles
not quite sure if Zep reached their level of world domination and popularity while still making interesting ground breaking music for their time
I think Zep coming in the 2nd wave of British bands has something to do with my feelings on this
…and not a huge Minutemen fan but Double Nickels On The Dime is quite the album, in that punk vein
@ sumodie – American Beauty
p.s. Rick James, bitch
The first few Jam records are great also in the punk genre
Not as hard as some of the other bands, but great song writers
great band sound
This is a Rock band not a Punk band, but very influential in sound and energy
Kick Out The Jams, Motherfuckers
The MC5
So ahead of their time, some of the hardest shit ever to this day, great stuff
sequentially Zep is 2nd tier but I think both musically and in terms of lasting influence Zep is far ahead of the Who
musically, that part is just my preference. Not really a Who fan in any serious way. Find the concept albums silly. Pete’s great but kind of limited…Keith was amazing though. I just never understood how they got elevated to Beatles/Stones status.
But in terms of influence I think Zeppelin has far outstripped the Who. Only old dudes like us and the baby boomers listen to the Who. Every young rocker goes through a Zep phase and ends up knowing the sacred Zep canon.
But it’s so subjective…and I think Hendrix is both musically superior to and more influential than either one, I guess
“took me a bit to figure it out, but the arrow thing is a slider. You can see the whole list if you move the slider (you all probably figured this out already).”
@TypeIII: Took me a while to find the arrow you mentioned. I had to zoom in (control +) in order to see it. Now I can scroll through the list at will -thanks!
MC5, word
don’t really think of them as punk, but I guess they are, just a generation early
@Uncle – cocaine’s a powerful drug!
I think it was Lester Bangs that loved MC5 as well. Wrote about them all the time.
Physical Graffiti is not on the list? Damn.
Not a huge Who fan either
but Live at Leeds is the real deal
I have a hard time believing any band was bringing it as hard live as they did on that one
My Generation was very unique compared to what the Beatles and Stones were doing at that time also
Who’s Next use of synths was pretty groundbreaking
although not a fan I think they probably deserve to be there
how many double albums on there? Double Nickels is one
it’s a hell of a drug 😉
hotel california is on there
speaking of the Who
Bring bark Sparks
loved it everytime I heard Phish play it, what a great instrumental jam
is that a double album? I know as little as possible about the Eagles…I treasure my ignorance of the subject
i bet the album they play isn’t even on the website…but i disgress..
love that…everybody is doing these days…the whole i disgress phenom is spreading like a fungus.
but i disgress
🙂
