Halloween Music – An Audio Post
When considering Phish’s darkest, most demonic improv, few eras – if any – can compare to Summer ’95. Waging psychedelic jihad nightly, Phish made no bones about jumping off the deep end many times per show, churning out some of the most engaging music of their career. When thinking of what type of Phish best fit the essence of Halloween, I didn’t have to think very long. Whether you are going to Indio or not, this “Halloween Music” will make for some haunted late-night listening over the holiday weekend. All selections are excerpts of much larger jams. Enjoy. I’m packing.

Phish Thoughts During Festival 8
Given the 24-hour nature of Phish festivals and the one of a kind atmosphere that we are about to encounter, my posts over the festival may be a bit more informal, and less than full-blown show reviews. I will definitely post something each day – possibly more than once a day if the wireless is legit – and will keep you abreast of the essentials. But I will most likely leave comprehensive show analysis for after Indio, as there is just too much to do at a Phish festival to be strapped to a computer for periods of time. Who knows what will happen, but disclaimer made. Thanks for understanding.

No Spoilers – Indio
“No Spoilers” is a go for this weekend! We will try to get the links up the night of, but given the festival atmosphere, they could go up that night or by the next afternoon. While we have a plan in place, and will try get them up asap, we may be depending on the first source posted and that’s out of our control. Worst case scenario we are looking at the following morning / early afternoon. In summary, No Spoilers – Indio is 100% go; but if its not up a few hours after the show, don’t stay up hitting refresh all night. Ya dig? Stay tuned to phishthoughts.com/nopoilers all weekend long – it’s the next best thing to being there!

Check out HeadCount’s “Reality Check” Game Show at Festival 8
If you are a maestro of Phish trivia, or an expert on current events, you’ll have a chance to prove it at Festival 8. Headcount, fresh off announcing superb stastisical results from last year’s voter registration campaign, will host the “Reality Check” music and political trivia game at Festival 8. The grand prize winner will walk away will receive an uncut sheet of four Pollock Halloween masks, available at the Water Wheel table throughout Festival 8. To make the prize one-of-a-kind, Jim is doing a special illustration on one uncut sheet – meaning the winner goes home with a true Pollock original.
“Reality Check” will pit you head-to-head with another competitor as a host quizzes you on Phish history, classic albums, the news and government. Plus, there will also be a Family Feud-style “Survey Says!” question. If you win three straight times, you can advance to the Tournament of Champions, held before Phish’s final set of the weekend on Sunday, Nov. 1.

My wife’s pick from the analog era, this end-of-tour party at Sugarbush represented the precursor to The Clifford Ball in 1996. Playing to a populated side of a ski slope at the end of a musically ludicrous, Phish inched ever closer to their first-ever full-blown festival. The second set jams “Runaway Jim” and “Tweezer” provided the improvisational meat of the second set, while “Reba” and “Slave” stood out as well.
I: Sample in a Jar, The Divided Sky, Gumbo, The Curtain > Julius, Camel Walk, Reba, I Didn’t Know, Rift, While My Guitar Gently Weeps

The only rule is it begins…
Harry,
that’s why I clarified so you wouldn’t think ( . V . )
couldn’t find something fitting for a nose.
Folks aren’t expecting this msg board to be ‘no spoilers’, right?
I think it’ll be fun to add (and read others’) updates/thoughts in addition to Miner’s on-the-ground efforts. I recall over the summer some fans were caught short by our spoiler postings here.
(O)¿(O)
is it true about the XM/Sirius broadcast of F8? I’ll be pretty stoked if so, although I don’t know how much of the show I”ll be able to listen to from my car :/
our destiny was bound. Getting on the road in a few hours!!
Great to see all the new posters yesterday. Hopefully I’ll be seeing some new faces this week at the Oasis. I’ll also post my location if I can once I set up camp in 2 days–won’t be as good as the Oasis, but I just secured a huge canopy so you can get some shade at my place!
Safe travels everyone.
Señor C – Thanks for the 411 on the cosmic wimpout > zonk etymology. as per the remnants of yesterday’s threads.
I learned zonk in my fraternity. It was a storied game that went back further than anyone could remember. Haven’t played it in years but have some old acquiantances attedning the fest and it seems like a fun activity to revisit and share with some other festival folks. You know, the tribal knowledge that keeps the community vital. Hey! Free knowledge, anybody?
I do plan on a at least one morning jog, Friday AM Sun Uppish. One lap of the entire site is 5.03 mile as per ggogle earth. Any takers? Not really angry joggging just sort of jogging jogging. my pace will be about an hour.
After that my weekend physical training regiment will consist of 12 to 16 oz curls, massive smiling attacks, jumping up and down for no reason, counting and recounting delta 9s both backwards and forwards, dancing to the music in my head or the music around me, 4:20 yoga, pitching horseshoes, hyper-hand dancing, shots, spelunking, the depths of halloween and phish all while disguised as a human.
Trivia sounds fun though I am not as up to date as I should be for actual competition, hhhmmmm. Do we get life lines?
I heard they actually considered a Lawn Dart Tourney but the insurers underwriting the event kaboshed that for reasons that are more realistic and less risky.
Moist green organic that my feet tread upon…
Looks like the Bunny radio has its own website for F8:
http://feedthebunny.com/
and a FB page:
http://www.facebook.com/bunnyradio
safe travels everyone. Hope to hear there is a group costume of antelopes running and grazing (maybe even stalked by a pride of lions) as well as the angry joggers. That would be epic.
@MakisupaSecurity:
Yes, Sirius will be broadcasting F8 -I’m sure an official phish.com announcement will come shortly. Other websites like jambands are already mentioning it.
I just went on Live Nation to see if the shows were sold out. Looked up COBO Tix and searched for 1. They are still giving away awesome seats. I’m pretty shocked, I thought that place only holds 10-12,000
I know no one cares right now and for good reason, but…yay NBA season starting, go Blazers tonight!
Sumodie, the threads have always been spoileriffic here. If you’re doing the No Spoilers thing, stay off the comment thread until after you’ve listened. The banter just from peeps watching the PhishTwit or wrestling with Hoodstream was classic, with the Sirius stream it should be quite fun.
anyone know if we can bring dslr cameras into the venue? I realize its not as portable, but its all I have. I think we should be able to.
halcyon, the FAQ says “no professional” cameras, whatever that amounts to…
@ Makisupa
The online stream of Sirius (if you have that option) is what I’ll be using to listen and record.
Mr C, I remember the first time i visited PDX, there was a huge sign along the highway reading “Portland Blazes the Nuggets” (i think it was the playoffs or something). I remember thinking to myself – wow, this is a progressive city.
no dslr’s
we will see how enforcement goes
^^ by sign, i mean billboard
@MrC: I plan on posting spoilers too! Just posting a word to wise, that’s all.
Miner! These audio posts are the shizz-niblits! Maybe Phish will cover ‘Phish Thoughts Audio Post: Summer 95- Halloween Music” this weekend.
FWIW there are Cobo floors available on TM.com as of two minutes ago.
No profressional cameras sounds vague, after all its the person behind the camera that controls how the photo comes out.
Maybe to be safe I will borrow a small pocket size camera.
i know they said “no interchangeable lenses”…so i’m assuming that means you can still bring in a non-pro camera even if it supports interchangeable lenses but doesn’t have any on them or on your person.
i have one of those “superzoom” cameras, not as good as an SLR but does have the option of using interchangeable lenses.
anybody see if any albums got axed today? are we still sitting on 17?
Lol! The 2 minute clip of Trey talking about BC (link page 2) is worth a look. Trey talks about how amazing BC was and then how strange it was to fly home a few hours later and be at a local neighborhood new year’s day party. Strange indeed.
I’m guessing the whole family will be with him at F8.
