Returning From The Desert
I just got out of the festival where I was relying on a communal, camp wireless card the entire weekend. Gotta deal with the RV and drive up north tomorrow, and I should be getting back to regular posting by later this week. And boy is there a lot to say! Sunday’s night’s show easily vaulted to the top shelf of 3.0 offerings with a second set chock-full of chunky dance grooves and a whole lot more. We will be looking at Phish’s eighth festival from all sorts of angles…when I get home!
glad you had a great time Miner! The Sirius stream experience was amazing BTW.
mr c how come I thought you were going to the festival? Did you plan to at one point?
that’s great to hear. The festival was the absolute bees knees. Most laid back Phish vibe ever – hands down. No hassle, no traffic, no weather, no anything but bliss! Can’t wait to start writing about it….after the Yankees win!! Honestly, so freakin’ amazing….
I was getting nervous Miner. Glad to hear you are alive and well!!
As was No Spoilers, except for the link to the “Exile It Is!” post on the nospoilers page… I hope everyone makes it / made it home safely!
hoped to. teetered on the brink. had many kind offers that made it just barely plausible. Parenting ended up preventing it and we had a great weekend. Sorry we missed it, but that’s just life’s tradeoffs for ya.
mr c an article w/ futureman rattling on about phi rhythms: http://www.rockom.net/articles/2008/06/24/featured-article-1/
Honestly- I didn’t consider Exile a spoiler. When we woke up on Saturday morning, they were handing out Phishbills throughout the festival. Everyone knew that they were playing it. Never thought twice. Sorry if people were holding out for note one. Trying to provide the genuine experience 😉
Bottom line, Miner, the stream worked so well it was crazy. Minor, minor glitches at most. Quality was great. If Phish signed up to do this for every show I’d get a sirius subscription in a hot second.
Made it really fun. I felt much closer to the action than at any show I’ve ever missed.
what are the chances they’ve already signed a longerdeal? It would be huge
I’d like to see whoever was putting those “comments setlists” together in the past few weeks take a crack at the 3500 or so comments from the weekend.
I’m going to email sirius and lay it out for them, if a lot of peeps did that it might help
nothing weird or intense, just “hey great job on the stream, if you can sign Phish to an every show deal I will subscribe immediately”
I’m all for thr streams for shows I can’t make but this weekend reminded me how different the “in person” experience is. No matter how good your home audio system is, it just can’t compare.
I look forward to streaming them though this fall … Hopefully.
What’s this rumor I just heard about a Vegas show?
lol @ brother – word!
over 5500 posts from Friday through this afternoon

this has mentions of the phi music stuff, along with my teachers from that class I mentioned – Dr Wayne Kirby and Dr Gregg Olson, both at UNC-Asheville. Dr. Kirby actually discovered the wooten brothers and hired them for their first big gig at King’s Dominion back in the day. He also was Debby Harry’s first bass player before she became Blondie.. Dr. Olson is this crazy old Sufi Surfer guy; wild to have as teachers for sure.
oh sure Marshall. My summary is that it’s the best way to miss a phish show. The best way to miss one is still not nearly as good as being there, but it beats the shit out of all the other ways to miss the show.
Plus I got to cross some things off my life list you don’t normally get to do at shows without being arrested.
I love Phi. It’s in almost every art piece I do, Wook Down shirts not included. I was bummed when I had to move the spacing of the sound waves in the Phishthoughts T image away from a Phi ratio, it wasn’t working as well as it usually does, probably due to the oblique angle of view.

Sitting in the San Diego airport, just starting to look at some of the photos I took. What an amazing experience. Exile was sublime. Third set on Saturday was unreal. Third set last night was one of the best I’ve ever seen, and by far the best I’ve seen in 3.0.
Page wins MVP for the weekend. He owned Exile, and I his contributions to the band just keep increasing in their significance. I felt the same way walking out of Hampton. He’s way up in the mix. And Trey, to his credit, is sharing a bit more. Perhaps this will be the lesson of Exile. Keith doesn’t dominate the Stones. Shoot, half of Keith’s work is pure rhythm. Let Page keep growing. (Postscript: Trey can still bring it.)
3rd row, Friday night.

Looking forward to your write-up Miner, glad to hear it was a good time.
(On an unrelated note…your avatar. Is that a Lost reference, or just a normal Dharma-wheel logo? I am a 100%Lost-aholic and love seeing fellow obsessors!)
“plus I got to cross some things off my life list you don’t normally get to do at shows without being arrested”
why did the first thing that popped into my head include that “boom-chica-boom” music that comes on when your watching “tv”, the scene starts, and the delivery guy comes to the door……anyway, nevermind. glad you enjoyed yourself Mr. C.
there are a lot of Lost fans on here CJ, Miner included
you seen the Lost phish shirts?

I have been officially forbidden from saying anything more on the topic.
Note: Friday Wolfman’s > Piper totally holds up as legit
In Flagrante Delicto – unreal photos. This is the best Phish website ever, thanks for the great comments and of course mrminer!
