Returning From The Desert
I just got out of the festival where I was relying on a communal, camp wireless card the entire weekend. Gotta deal with the RV and drive up north tomorrow, and I should be getting back to regular posting by later this week. And boy is there a lot to say! Sunday’s night’s show easily vaulted to the top shelf of 3.0 offerings with a second set chock-full of chunky dance grooves and a whole lot more. We will be looking at Phish’s eighth festival from all sorts of angles…when I get home!
sad to say didnt see any “thank you” shirts out there except my own.
You guys who were at the show have no idea how much this site meant as far as a support group goes! It was really a marvel of modern technology to be listening to the sets live and blogging along with hundreds of other people from across the world. It was like looking at the guy next to you at the show and saying “great jam!” without them hollering back, “WHAT???”
Well…… Almost like that.
I agree Leo.
The ability to post this weekend with the stream from Sirius made this a really cool weekend in my living room and assuaged some of the disappointment I felt at not being able to make the trek to California.
I really hope we can have some meet ups this fall in great part due to the fact that my original ‘crew’ has completely disbanded and has no interest any longer or means to go see shows anymore.
It’s very sad, but with that end comes new beginnings and what a better group of people to see shows with and spend time with than people who love the band as much as I do?
Glad the groundwork has been laid (that the Oasis was up and successful) and look forward to grabbing my spot in the hack circle of pt’ers.
“It was like looking at the guy next to you at the show and saying “great jam!” without them hollering back, “WHAT???”
That’s exactly what it was like! lol
I’m glad to hear you say that because it’s precisely the spirit in which it was intended. I had the design basically sitting around and wanted to somehow make it a benefit shirt but it had to be in a way that made sense. So I thought, “phish…thoughts. ok, trey’s thinking something. what?” and the hood lyric flashed into my mind while I was staring at it, and it seemed so obvious I felt like a moron for not having thought of it sooner.
I’m not a regular poster, but I did chime in all weekend, and my experience here has been an entirely good one
re: LivePhish d/l’s
Downloaded them last night and burnt 10.30.09 to disc this morning. Granted it’s difficult to post any reviews regarding the actual song play and a sound mix review based on what I am partially hearing at work thru a pc, I still must say I like what I hear in both respects. Page’s vocals and boards are strong in the mix, just right imo. Mike is still a bit low in the mix, but I am no pro. just saying. worth my dime.
Mr. C, how do the T-shirt sizes run, I’m not that big but don’t want a tight shirt, or one that shrinks to tight
Mr. C – keep making the designs. Those are great. I especially like the orange version you made. But in general, I’m sure we can all come up with some good stuff.
Props to whoever suggested, “Fishman is my biological father” shirt, I would take one of those.
@Little Buddy – thanks man. Hoping we can meet up at Albany w/ HOOD and some other cats. I’ve my hotel n tix all locked up.
“If you didn’t come to party, don’t bother knockin’ on my door. I got a lime in my pocket, and baby I’m ready to roll”
Word. At least several of us on here in that same boat. Mine have all either yupped out or fallen too far to be reachable. I can’t deal with hard drug addicts anymore, I don’t blame them or hate on them but I’m a family man, I can’t be around that shit or allow it near my family. And even though I’m a family man and a Responsible Taxpaying Citizen I also am not done living, so hanging out with people who used to be fun and now watch golf all weekend and care about what happens to the Gosselins doesn’t really do it for me either. Fucking happy medium, people! Is it really that hard?
an admission: I am the worst hacker in the history of hippiedom. frisbee in all its manifestations I can do – just tossing a disk, golf, ultimate, I’m down. But I can’t hack to save my life. Weird.
Just now hearing Faulty Plan and am loving it, especially where each is sayinig “where my mind should be” off beat from one another, like an echo
@jdub – the non-fitted shirts run exactly average sizing wise, so order whatever your default size is. Fitted shirts are from American Apparel, who are famous for undersizing (but are good quality shirts) so go a size bigger if you want one of those.
@BTB – wouldn’t “Henrietta is my daddy” be funnier? with a picture of Fish from his fully wooked out party troll days circa Lawn Boy? Thought of it over the weekend after the idea originally came up (not by me), curious what you think
I can’t hack or throw a disk to save my life.
Classic 🙂
Haven’t hacked in maybe ten years, and the only time I ever played Ultimate, well, it wasn’t pretty
Bravo to Phish for broadcasting the weekend on Sirius, it made for a remarkable weekend for those at home…
My weekend went like such
Missed 1st set
Fri. set 2, listened to in LR with beer and wife by a fire
Sat set 1 istened to on iphone while t or ting with my 3 year old who was dressed in black with glow rings wrapped around his whole body… many compliments on the costum. , Halloween set was spent at a friends house, having a blast. Caught the last set while driving home and then passed out as it was ending.
Sunday acoustic set, like watching a football game… grilled food, beer, and just plain ole relaxing
Set 2 some more of the same, didn’t make it to set 3 (east coast)
Fantastic weekend all around
OK – here are my photos from the weekend. Taken with a 1st Gen iPhone so I apologize for the low-rez.

So, just a random survey question, as mentioned earlier:
If Phish was going to simulcast all of Fall Tour on Sirius, would this cause you to:
1) purchase a subscription to Sirius, at $13 a month
2) purchase fewer Phish tickets or LivePhish downloads?
Please be honest. I’m drafting an email to sirius, just for fun, and I’m curious what you all think.
FWIW my answers are “fuck yes” and “not even a little”
Isn’t that the best?
I guess being at the show is the best. But, you know, those kinds of moments are pretty great too. Really an interesting and even beautiful experience.
1) Yes
2) No
Do that shit, man. 8 Was unlike anything ever….If I could do the same for MSG and NYE which I’ll be missing…damn…I’d love that.
I just gave the first night a re-listen after being there on Friday night, and although that show kind of got swept under the rug after the madness that ensued on Saturday and Sunday, there are some absolute killer versions to speak of (Stash, Faulty Plan, Wolfman’s>Piper, etc)
So freakin glad I motivated out there last minute on Thursday. Everything fell into place. We got some Party Time coozies as we entered the grounds and that was certainly the theme of the whole weekend for everyone there. Just epic times.
my answers are “fuck yes” and “not even a little”
Agreed.
It was a completely unique Phish experience, one I hope to have again.
Sunday’s acoustic broadcast got me thinking about how true and full circle Miner’s comparison of Phish to sport is!
1) Probably
2) I have never bought LivePhish downloads, but I would never buy less tickets.
