Returning From The Desert

Festival 8 (A.Lansing)

Festival 8 (A.Lansing)

I just got out of the festival where I was relying on a communal, camp wireless card the entire weekend. Gotta deal with the RV and drive up north tomorrow, and I should be getting back to regular posting by later this week. And boy is there a lot to say! Sunday’s night’s show easily vaulted to the top shelf of 3.0 offerings with a second set chock-full of chunky dance grooves and a whole lot more. We will be looking at Phish’s eighth festival from all sorts of angles…when I get home!

Rule 34 states, concerning the internet, “if it exists, there is porn of it.”

Basically, if you search for it, you will destroy every childhood memory you hold dear.

and yes it’s definitely funny that it’s in playboy

still a long way to go to catch up just on today’s comments since I’m finally home (forget about catching up on show days!!), but gotta reiterate my thanks to Robear for his kindness and hospitality… and his commitment to helping out waterwheel!!

thanks for posting the photos Halcyon, I could see you were taking a few good ones while we hung out. I’m in at least 1 of them, at the Oasis in my YEM shirt–which was Saturday. Knew it was coming. I put on the shirt, we got a great one.

A lot of talk about people being in Hunky Dory earlier. I was there, and wore my PT shirt all day Thursday and Friday. Walked all over the camp… only one person stopped me about the shirt, and he had no idea what phishthoughts.com was, he just liked the design. Didn’t see another PT shirt all week unfortunately (but did get to meet a couple peeps at the Oasis).

Some great stories, been fun starting to read them all…

on Sunday going back and forth from Larks Tongue campground security started to get a boner for finding drugs. There was police present for securities searches. The very untrained security started to smell inside of backpacks and such. After seeing this i ducked out of line to crotch my stash. Luckily, cuz sure enough the security guard stuck his melon in my bag taking deep whiffs claiming he smelled marijuana. I told him there was nothing in my bag. (not lying, it was in my crotch) Right about then the police officer exclaimed “NO MORE DRUGS, JUST ALCOHOL”) to the security. These security jokers seemed to be out sourced from Africa or Haiti. It was a real wake up call because we had been lulled into a sense of freedom thru out the weekend. Def not every entrance was like this. In fact, it was the only entrance i was hassled at. At other entrances my pack wasn’t even searched most of the time, and actual police officers weren’t even present most of the time.

Blurb about 3D phish film from:

    http://www.mydesert.com/article/20091102/LIFESTYLES0101/911020307/Festival-8-notebook–Day-3

    Phish in 3D

AEG Network Live has filmed the eight Phish sets this weekend for a 3D movie that will be released theatrically in 2010.

The release will come after the company that is a division of the firm promoting Festival 8 releases another 3D concert film of the Dave Matthews Band Dec. 11-17 in major theater chains, including Regal Cinemas that are equipped to show 3D movies. That film will include additional performances by Ben Harper and Gogol Bordello.

Matthews, Harper and Bordello were filmed at the 2009 Austin City Limits, All Points West and Lalapalooza festivals, but John Rubey, executive producer and president of Network Live, said his crew is getting so much good footage at Festival 8, and Phish has such a large following, that Phish will be the lone artist in its concert film.

AEG marketing man Tim Cannon said it may be a challenge to get all of this weekend’s footage into just one film.

^^ There’s a photo in there of the post-stabbing, with the perp on the ground and the victim standing near him.

  10. sumodie Says:

Was there a late night phish F8 performance?

I heard from one person that the band played a late night set atop an RV, maybe in the Larks Tongue or Lambs Lie Down campground. I haven’t heard anything else about this, so at this point I’m doubtful.

Sumodie, I was told they played on the Coil on Saturday night…

    Who knows…

    beep,
the problem with phish charging 5 bucks and streaming it is that they would then have to do tech support. too many f*cking retards are using computers now. I swear there needs to be a test to buy one.

    1. do you know what a software update is?
    2. do you know how to backup?
    3. do you know how to read?
    4. assuming you know how to read, can you google something and try and fix the problem by yourself before contacting tech support?

The IT crowd is a hilarious show on the BBC. They have an answering machine for when their clients call: “did you restart it? ok bye”

What a great experience all around…thanks everyone!

Did anyone else think attendance was small at 40,000? I think this really contributed to the incredible level of services at this event. Overall, I still enjoyed the Ball more, but fire art deserves to be a part of all festies from now on. I wish they would have brought the bigger pieces/different artists if you can imagine. http://thecrucible.org/

For me, this was barely a cali style fest with all the security or at least not Norcal style. How about next to the eel ala Reggae next time. Did anyone else notice the RV lots with no grass. Maybe it was just the crackdown on glass bottles, pieces and overt trees sales that through me off a little.

Second run in a row that I returned back to the campsite before sun rise to find a stranger passed out convulsing. Come on people….pace yourself and achieve.

I’m still coughing up indio dust and I can barely walk from dancing so hard….wouldn’t have it any other way.

Finally, I think its a horrible sign that yet again

ahhh this loving cup cannot be topped. they should retire it. this is just the best version I have ever heard.

Haha Mitch. I gotcha. Was a fleeting thought. Seriously though…Thank you for the tech support you offered for a fellow Snow Kitty Mac user. That was clutch.

  17. Mitch Says:

DAMN GP420!! You must have been paying your karma dues all year for a payout like that. So pumped for you, awesome story!

still back a few pages, per usual.

  18. Mitch Says:

no prob beep. glad it worked. After reading about all the meet ups, I wanna meet you and gp420 and all the other indiana folk when I go home for deer creek next year.

same with the msg crowd, I hope we get a cool gathering. if you guys didnt see, I made a spreadsheet and want whoever wants to come to add their names so I can organize something. currently its jdub and me, i know moonshake, neemor, randomreader, frankie, fromthetub and miner are going. lets make it happen!

PROCRASTINATORS (burnouts, i think they are interchangable) UNITE TOMORROW!

mountain fests are a great freaking time until your friend goes to space and gets arrested. pat downs while spaced are not fun.

cop: whats this in your pocket?
    me: i dunno
    cop: what?
    me: i dunno
cop: what do you mean you dunno
me: (am i repeating myself, act cool) i mean… i put it in there a long time ago and now i forgot
cop: im going to dig in your pocket now
    cop: its a hat
me: oh there that is, thats my cubs hat
    cop: ok hes clean

my disco eyes sure said otherwise.

im finding it surprising that there were pot busts. I dunno if its cali trying to say they really are serious about it being medicinal or just the cops trying to keep the area clean. last week I was reading an article about the nitrous mafia on headcount and thinking those guys are douchebags tho so I guess they are just making an attempt to get rid of them for a change. i guess my point is, bust the nitrous, not the bud. at least in cali if nowhere else.

  24. Mitch Says:

is someone able to tivo and upload that LSD show on nat geo tonight?

Voopa – Can I use those pics w/ credit of course? I just got home.
