Returning From The Desert
I just got out of the festival where I was relying on a communal, camp wireless card the entire weekend. Gotta deal with the RV and drive up north tomorrow, and I should be getting back to regular posting by later this week. And boy is there a lot to say! Sunday’s night’s show easily vaulted to the top shelf of 3.0 offerings with a second set chock-full of chunky dance grooves and a whole lot more. We will be looking at Phish’s eighth festival from all sorts of angles…when I get home!
maybe two and a half parties, if you count our collective virtual home party as a half.
I almost felt that each campground was something of a separate party. We definitely spent most of our time in Hunky Dory since that was our home base. I never made it to five of the campgrounds except when we drove through on the way into the site on Thursday.
love the mr miner page on facebook. thanks neemor….and miner of course.
@butter: Glad to hear the hotel scene worked well. I love camping, but I thought it was great that fans had a hotel option too. Being so spread out may have dissipated the campground scene, but the trade off was to make everything so much smoother for fans.
@Miner: Agreed, it was the most BLISSFUL festival ever.
@Miner
Voopa β Can I use those pics w/ credit of course? I just got home.
Of course! I can send you full sized versions too, if you want to crop to detail (like I did with the one closeup of Trey and Mike during the acoustic set)
@PigSong
Sorry if I gave a generally negative vibe with my posts earlier…my experience this weekend was unbelievable and unforgettable. I have many positive stories that I’ll be sharing here for months (or so) to come.
@all
…just listened to the end of Piper…wonder what that little jam was that they did? Can’t make out the vocals at all…
fyi…first new post coming on thursday….I’m far too tired after drive to launch in tonight. My brain has the thoughts, but I can’t get the words in the right order just yet.
re: attendance, somewhere b/w 25-30k
@ All lucky souls who attended Feight
Did Surrender to the Flow put out a Festival 8 magazine?
@Miner: Agreed, it was the most BLISSFUL festival ever.
^^what Sumodie and Miner said
@kwl…interesting take re: trey’s style, and I think you’ve got something there. I’d never really thought about it that way (didn’t do much TAB and don’t recall it much from 03-04). However it happens, it’s their continuing evolution that I’m excited about…and it’s been happening relatively fast in 09 imo. Best days ahead!
You and Mitch save those Thursday/Friday for me…I’m gonna make it happen somehow, someway…just gotta remember how I pulled off the broke trips in college π
Anybody just see that effin brain dragon on Nat Geo….holy crap!
@neemor…gonna watch it later, tomorrow maybe…dvr-ing it and the LSD special. gonna enjoy the last of my purple urkle while watching π
great shots Voopa.
As for Piper I heard they were saying a line from one of the Exile songs. Something to the effect of “Save My Soul”.
Burning Dan????!!!
BTB, you around?
Miner, thanks for your site having the balls to support our relentless commenting on Sunday night. It was awesome. I think we went over 3K comments. it was great, it like IM’ing friends while listening to crispy soundboards (except live!) on Sirius. Big props to them too. Seriously.
Now, let’s end this series at home tomorrow and really cap off a dream week.
Sorry for the outburst…I hope people are watching this LSD thing on NatGeo right now…cool stuff. Some of it’s like Duh, but a lot of it’s like Whoa.
Some of itβs like Duh, but a lot of itβs like Whoa.
LOL.
I have to find this show online at some point.
@Pigsong, if you’re flipping through posts from the weekend, there were a few oddly picky threads weaving in and out…but I actually was not on all that often, while music was happening I had the browser closed, and every time I’d come back the vibe would have righted itself. And there would be 10 more pages of posts and no time to read them…
@KWL excellent point. However I think it’s kind of in between. Trey has been dipping his toes in these waters and with good effect. But Exile is diving all the way into the deep end. It’s just about the most soulful rootsy record any white band has ever made, at least that I know of.
This is quality programming right now, must say.
Yep, I heard the Piper had either a quote or a theme derived from Exile’s ‘I Just Want To See His Face’. I could not for the life of me pinpoint it, but I’m not the guy to do it.
gonna watch it later (pacific time)

“Defintely didnt se MANY people over the weekend due to the dichotomy.”
Def the case for me as well. Also what contributed to it being hard to see or find folks was the fact that is was dark for both sets Friday, and four of the other sets thru out the weekend. And boy was it dark. It was quite different for it to be dark at 6:30 for an outdoor show. (5:30 come Sunday)

Love that the main chemist in it is a Purdue Pharmacologist…

I’m going to go ahead and retract the negativity comment. I guess off the bat I seemed to just stumble on an excessive amount of them, maybe I was just being hyper-sensitive after a magical four days.
I can’t wait to try to digest what happened, it’s still a little early. Heck, I didn’t listen to the last three summer until weeks after the fact.
How about those white trailer bathrooms? Those F’ers were straight class.
