The Return to the Big Stage

Here We Come...

MSG, Here We Come...

The time has come; tonight Phish will return to MSG for the first time since their first comeback on December 31, 2002. After an extensive year of playing, Phish’s calendar will come to an unquestionable climax in a  building they have historically owned. With thirteen shows in The Garden under their belt, the band returns to the arena at the tail end of their fall tour in a completely different place than ever before in their career. Phish have traditionally pushed themselves in the Garden, forming some of their career defining nights in the building. From their first appearance in ’94 and their epic New Year’s show in ’95, to the legendary New Year’s Runs of ’97 and ’98, MSG boasts arguably the most regal history of any Phish venue. And tonight the legacy continues…

    @ Neemor

A Friday meetup would be great. I met both Mitch and Gavinsdad at the second night of Philly, last week, and can only imagine that the rest of the folks on this board are of a similar great quality.

have fun to all who are going

  3. Dear Mr. Regan Says:

    @st8

You’re definitely not alone. I’ve never been either, but it sounds like an amazing time. Hopefully, there will be many other opportunities with these guys at the Garden. Have a great time to all in attendance.

  6. BTB Says:

    Have fun guys

Neemor- I work in Manhattan (although I am originally from CT), unfortunately I will be at work until 5 or 5:30pm tonight. I have a post on craigslist, but I figured I would try here as well. The ticket is for section 341 row k, I am looking to get $40, but as time passes that number might start to get lower.

I work pretty close to Grand Central, but I could also meet down near MSG at around 5:30pm. I would rather not go near MSG tonight, because If I don’t see it, it doesn’t exist. 🙂

I will be at Thursday and Friday, but I just can’t make it tonight. 🙁

@Exree the Den has a ton of great videos, Phish and otherwise. That’s how I built up my collection and now I’ve got somewhere in the order of 250+ Phish videos (by dvd count, not show count). Those certainly helped keep me company during those 5 years away 🙂 If you can’t grab the dual-layer discs now just stick to the single layer shows and you’ll have plenty to keep you occupied.

  9. BTB Says:

oh, yeah, they’re bringing back ‘Amoreena’ at MSG – see Albany Set II outro music…

  10. jdub Says:

@neemor, you don’t want to kick yourself like last Saturday, take the plunge.
Happy BiRthday purplehumpbackwhale, PHISh, and whomevere else is celebrating the passing of time.

    The time is indeed near

  11. Panda Says:

Miner dont forget about the two fall tour 1996 shows at MSG!

  12. GhostPhunk Says:

    “Aint no stopping us now”

    Have fun guys.

it always amazes me how bad the editing and fact checking is for major newspapers. I was on the NYT website seeing if there is anything about the upcoming shows and I found the Syracuse review ( http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/11/25/arts/entertainment-us-music-phish.html?scp=2&sq=phish&st=cse ). I know these aren’t fans but saying the tour ended in Philadelphia is a bit readicculus.

  14. Afroskully Says:

YES YES YES!! jones beach was good. Hartford was Great. My anticipation for tonight is keeping me from paying any attention at work today. So psyched for tonight.

    Jim, Guelah 1-2 punch!

    bring it back old school.

  15. Danny B Says:

Neemor- totally forgot about my e-mail dan(dot)bennis(at)gmail(dot)com

Would love to see the ticket go to someone who will really enjoy the show, on the other hand I totally understand if you are trying to get a cheaper ticket or save money for the next 2 nights. It’s too bad that everybody is trying to get rid of their tickets for tonight, it sure to be smoker!!! 26th anniversary!!

  16. Litteringand Says:

    Lot t-shirt idea

Movie poster of Back to the Future :Trey is Marty and Page is Doc underneath it says Backwards Down the Number Line or Back on the Train take your pick. Someone make it, i’ll buy it

  17. MisterChristian Says:

    Phish Sucks.

NATCH! Just wanted to see what it was like to type that. Kinda creepy actually. Gave me a sour swishy feeling, hard to describe.

MSG will be the throwdown, wish I had moar munnies.

  18. Carini's Dad Says:

Hey everyone. I’ve seen the setlist for tonight already. We’ll be opening with Sample in a Jar.

    See y’all there!

  19. Afroskully Says:

who’s this “we’ll” you speak of?

    =)

  20. marcoesq Says:

    @TypeIII

Their bad editing hopefully will lead to more extra tix for us. I’m pretty sure that the majority of the attendees of these shows don’t have to rely on the NY Times for a tour schedule 🙂

  21. Exree Hipp Says:

    Type III –

Agreed, but that’s a Reuters article, not an NYT. Pretty nuts that there’s this little knowledge required but that’s kind of the point of newspaper coverage. Has to be covered by people who do this every day and can’t be experts at anything.

  22. bl68300 Says:

    the days have arrived 🙂

  23. msbjivein Says:

    HAPPY B-DAY BOYS!!!!
    Bring the HEAT!!

  24. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

good catch, Exree. I realized that after I posted it. The best part is that it wasn’t like they had the 2nd night of Philly as the end of tour but the 1st!

  25. halcyon Says:

Everyone is going to have a blast…..so psyched for everyone hitting up MSG. The energy in there is like no other place. These shows are going to rock. I can’t wait to hear all about them. So many great memories seeing the boys play there.

Type III…..NYT has covered them in the past, just chalk that one up to a clueless, or extremely burnt editor.
