With all of the due praise that 11.28 has garnered for its improvisational odyssey, the night beforehand has slid under the radar. In one of the most unique shows of tour, Phish molded an original second set featuring two debuts, a couple bust-outs, and a hefty portion on-point jamming. “My Friend, My Friend,” an aural omen of the fire to come, kicked off the frame, setting the table for the out-0f-left-field cover, “Golden Age.” An experience likening the debut of “Roses Are Free,” twelve years earlier in Rochester, no one had any idea what song Phish had busted out. The entire set passed and we walked out of the venue having no idea the song was even a cover. With a triumphant Phish jam and lyrics referencing “an age of miracles,” I thought the band had just debuted their best-kept secret, written specifically for this go-round. Only later in the evening did I find out the song’s indie pop-tronica roots, download the song, and become mesmerized by its transformation. Phish fed off the energy born from “Golden Age” for the entire set, killing “On Your Way Down,” “Piper > Tommorrow’s Song” and “Harry Hood.” And the first set ain’t too shabby either!

    Mitch,
    What are co-ordinates?

  2. Robear Says:

Neemor, he stuck his head in the door of my RV and said ‘Is this Tom Marshall’s RV’. I said, No (WTF?), but if you find him, bring him back and we can have a session!

Neither returned, but it was funny! FWIW, Dude seems like a cool cat. Got to chat with him @MSG regarding the ‘Crimes of Mind’ in Portland.

In the back of my mind, I’m thinking of AW’s comment.

I love Page’s new song, ‘I been around’. When I think about my life and it’s time spent on tour or at show’s, it hits home.

“Got to chat with him @MSG regarding the ‘Crimes of Mind’ in Portland.”
    Bad ass.
He must be quite the character, there would have been quite a few yarns to spin during that session, I’m sure.

  4. elihu Says:

Neemor, I thought it was Limor’s bed I was dancing on? But I’ll dance on your bed too, as long as it’s with Jennifer.

When I go to Mr. C’s link I get 4 zips and a text file, but no dark star file on its own. I think it’s hiding from me as is the tendency of dark matter.

  5. Robear Says:

Neemor, tons of fun guys at that show. Something about stops in western Michigan. Did you listen to the first set already? It wasn’t a very long show. In retrospect, I think mgmt. must have told them to cool it down and wrap it up. The infirmary must have been at capacity by set-break.

  6. Mitch Says:

    FAO is 59 and 5.
My job is 59 and 5. I dont work at FAO, they aren’t mutually exclusive.

  7. Mitch Says:

gonna take off of here for a while. neemor, you should have my email. you should also have my number if your phone is back in order. lets talk this week about grabbing some brews.

be back later or tomorrow for sure. tomorrow is my sunday.

  8. neemor Says:

Page’s ‘Middle of the Road’ is a very enjoyable song, as well.
The 8.14.09 Hartford version is played rotationally very often, and I never skip it!
He’s been bringing some interesting stuff to the table this year, for sure.

Now, we might need a few Fishman songs.
Maybe that’s another indication of the fact that maybe he’s not as into this as much as the other guys.
Just playing Devil’s advocate, I think Fish is doing fine.

  9. Robear Says:

I’m so dense. I thought it was Reemor’s Bed.

  10. neemor Says:

    Alright Mitch.

Elihu, if it’s Limor, I’m all sorts of backwards, neemor is what I thought the song’s lyrics for so if not, well, my name is pretty meaningless here!

As far as Jennifer Dances, I’d like to go on record as saying that (although I’m extremely tolerant of Phish to a fault) I do not hate that song.

It may be that I never saw it live, but I think that besides the lyrics being somewhat repetetive, the song itself is quite nice.

Glad I got that off my chest.

  11. kb Says:

anyone have a link to Lycan’s posted shows?

  12. neemor Says:

I’m in the midst of that Bowie, RoBear.

  13. Mr. Completely Says:

whoa, the Dark Star did vanish, @elihu is right

    weird

    I’ll re-up it now

  14. Robear Says:

Neemor, my copy of that show is from Phishows as well. I’ve got a decent stash of them from 94 / 95. I recently found a sbd. of my cherry pop on bt.etree.org That’s been a treat!

Mango, that sux then! The video is all stop and go for me, even after I paused it and let it ‘buffer’. I’ll bookmark and watch in Babylon at the high speed connect! Thx.!

  15. Robear Says:

    turn it up!

  16. Robear Says:

allright neemor, I’m at the beginning.

How’s the pen holding up? Or did you give it to your boss?

  17. neemor Says:

    “cherry pop”.
    Nice.

I’m peeling the paint off the walls as it is, can’t go past 11!

This Bowie is a monster, indeed…

  18. Mitch Says:

Speed wont matter Robear. You are on a tibook from 2001. My iBook cant handle it either. I let it buffer too. It’s a matter of old software and old computers at this point.

    Neemor,
whats this talk about limor? What’s your name stand for. I’m gonna play jennifer dances on phishshows now to finally hear it. Dec 99 right?

  19. neemor Says:

That pen was one of the coolest things that’s happened at a show in a long time.
I think back to the moment when you said, “Here, you can keep this…”.
There was a slight pause where you had a moment to consider the course of action you were about to embark upon, and you then handed me the pen.

I steeled my wandering gave upon it for a moment and slid it into my pocket.

I checked to make sure it was still there during that Maze to make sure that I hadn’t misplaced it.

(For those of you who aren’t aware, RoBear handed me a clear pen with a pink plastic maze inside it that had two silver balls that you were supposed to work through the maze.)

    That Bowie was nuts.
    I love Blue+Lonesome, miss it.
    Playing it acoustically here….very nice.

  20. Robear Says:

    Mango, 12/7

    Portland, Me

  21. neemor Says:

Jennifer Dances just got a bad rap, maybe sucked the energy out of the room, but it’s a good song….

I always thought that the lyrics were, I saw you dancing with Elihu, up on Neemor’s bed.

    Hence my name….now I’m confused.

  22. neemor Says:

    12.5.99 has a Jennifer Dances.

  23. Robear Says:

They passed out, 2 by 2

Started during ‘Fluff’ and continued until we had tons of space on the floor. It was in a hockey arena, like a smaller version of the CCCC.

WTF was Trey saying during that ‘Bowie’?

  24. neemor Says:

Now that our boys obliged me with the back-to-back Antelopes to satisfy my hunger,
My desperate ears now pine for a Bathtub Gin.
    Currently eluding me.

It’s possible that the last Gin I saw was 7.3.00.
    A gem, but still…..

  25. Robear Says:

Mr. C, which of the Dead said, “There’s three places, home, the road and New York”

    or something to that effect?
