Miner’s Picks – Fall ’09

Madison Square Garden (Brian Ferguson)

As we turn the page from Fall Tour and begin to look towards Miami, I have compiled the latest installment in the Miner’s Picks series – “Fall ’09.” This time around, you’ll find some repeats throughout the eight-hour highlight reel due to Phish’s proclivity for using similar vehicles throughout the run. The band chose their weapons for  this tour and slayed them each time out, playing some of the most engaging jams from similar launchpads. Providing a legitimate summary of the past tour, “Miner’s Picks: Fall ’09” arrives just in time for the holidays to spice up any dinner or cocktail party. Enjoy the psychedelia with your holiday cheer, and get ready for a Miami New Year!

The Tweezer > Light > Endless Possibilities Combo is a great way to begin and end this fall compilation Miner! My sincere thanks to all you do once again. The link to the Torrent Tutorial has just made it that much easier for me to be a Phish fan. It is officially my New Year’s Resolution to start reading more manuals and other literature; that is the perfect one to begin with.

By the way, do you have a long white beard, wear a red velour tracksuit, live in the North Pole and like cookies? Because the more I look through your site, the more gifts and treasures I seem to be finding. To me, you’re like a Santa to the Phish community and I think your site is legendary. One day, future generations are going to write songs about you saying, “Thank You Mr. Miner.”

I’m not sure if it is just me or there is a problem with the megaupload pt. II of your picks though.

Thanks again halcyon for all your help in learning about the D-load! So far, everyone on this site has been awesome and very helpful! An amazing collaboration of individuals also contribute to why this site is so wonderful. The insightful things that some of you say have added to why I love this site so much.

  3. phishhead4 Says:

Great picks, Miner….and I couldnt agree with stitchstash more. I really appreciate all of the hard work that you put into your site.

If I were to add one of my own tour favorites to the list, I would have to include 12.4 First Tube. Pure energy.

  4. HarryHood Says:

Quiet board this morning! Anyone awake?

  5. BTB Says:

    Thanks for the work Miner.

    Top O’ the Morning!

  6. gratefulcub Says:

Looks like everyone took the week off for Christmas. SLACKERS!! You should be at work wasting time on the internets with the rest of us hard workers.

  7. albert walker Says:

work going about as slow as this blog this morning

10 minutes until opening bell and nothing reall going

should be some quiet markets into the new years
    def what we need

I could have already left for Miami
    nothing really going on here

    great picks Miner
I’ve been bumping that Undermind from Maine, real nice

that 12/4 first set is the fire also
damn that Phish is starting to sound tight

    got my Miami’s
anyone looking for cheap 300 levels I still got a few along with everyone else

  8. Neemor Says:

    Mornin’.
    Brisk out there.
2 feet total here in the CT.
Some good picks here, but since I can’t megaup @ work, JOTD is what I get to freak out my coworkers with this morning.

    Have fun today, kids.

  9. SillyWilly Says:

in 8 minutes my final exam begins.

Harry Hood is always my favorite “calm down” song

see you guys in 4 hours! have a great morning!

  10. cal Says:

Good morning to all. I’m sorry if this has been discussed before, it’s completely off-topic, but I feel I have to mention it: to anyone who hasn’t seen AVATAR, do yourself a favor and find a 3-D showing and go. The hype has been maddening, I agree, but it’s by far the most visually gorgeous piece of moving artwork I’ve ever seen. It absolutely took my breath away. I could hardly sleep last night, and I’m still coming down off it.

A bit more on topic…I’m surprised to see that the MSG “First Tube” isn’t in your picks! But I really dig the way you’ve laid the whole collection out. No doubt it will make for a fantastic aural trip. Much appreciated!

I’m starting to get sentimental about what an amazing year this has been…thanks to everyone here for helping to create this community of positivity to while away the hours in!

  11. kenny powers Says:

sorry to re-post, but in case anyone missed it toward the end of yesterday’s discussion…

This is totally random (other than it being 10 years ago), but in case anyone hasn’t heard this exceptional pull of Hampton 12.18.99 (tour closer, last show before Big Cypress), here it is:

    AAC (iTunes) version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YUC7IUVE

    lossless FLAC pt. 1: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4K7EFTKK
    lossless FLAC pt. 2: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YGCZJ01H

The taper was BEHIND the stage, which first made me think it would sound not so hot. But DAMN, this is a clear audience recording. A little heavy on the high end and somewhat lacking in the low end, but with some adjustments it’s a great listen.

    Enjoy

  12. albert walker Says:

    I’ve heard Avatar visually= amazing

    plot= mind numbing nonsense

most people I’ve heard feel the visual strengths make up for the terrible, contrived plot though

  13. gratefulcub Says:

    re: Undermind

I can’t eat my undermind without a heaping helping of Meat.

  14. Neemor Says:

BTW, that Carini 11/28/98 was freaking nuts.
One of thse songs I put on and went to do some work and when I realized it was still Carini it was too late-face melted!
    Oh well.

  15. voidBoy Says:

    @AW

It’s amazing how much money they spend on “flash” and how little they spend on substance. Does it take a genius to realize the plot is weak… “here… and here?”

  16. voidBoy Says:

Some great jams from fall. Can’t wait to check them out.

  17. jay Says:

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the movie suggestion. Love going to movies over the holidays 🙂

  18. Neemor Says:

I agree, Undermind must have Meat.
I though that was discussed and understood.

  19. oldskool Says:

I totally agree about AVATAR. This is a cinematic experience. This may one day be seen as game-changing as adding sound to a film; it is truly stunning.

  20. gratefulcub Says:

I agree Neemor, I thought we all decided on the meat. Obviously, we were misinformed, not mistaken.

  21. gratefulcub Says:

    re: Avatar

Is there anything to it except pretty pictures? I’m not saying that with snark, I am truly asking. Is it a good movie taken over the top with animated cinematography, or is it 2 hours of visual effects?

  22. bl68300 Says:

so miner…i see you have a torrent for the miner picks…does this mean you could possibly get one up (before new years) for the 12/4 show??? .rar files are not easily compatible w/media player (the only program that works if i want to put music on my phone) and thats like the one show i want the most!

  23. kenny powers Says:

    @ bl68300,

i don’t think .rar files are playable at all on any player. you just need an un-zipping program like Winrar or 7zip, which uncompresses the files into their original format, whether it’s mp3, wav, whatever.

  24. albert walker Says:

I have not seen so my opinion does not matter

but the few cats I know that saw it said the plot was terrible

Cameron himself said it only took 3 weeks to write
the movie took 10 years to film

maybe next time put a little more effort into the story

2009 American movie making to the tee
high on flash low on substance

  25. cal Says:

Re: AVATAR. It is heavy-handed environmentalist, anti-war, anti-corporate, overly sentimental, and your intellectual side will be tempted to scoff at how obvious and cliche the allegory is. But only the most jaded among us could experience the beauty of the movie and not be moved by it. And some idiots need to be bludgeoned over the head before they wake up to the problems Cameron is over-exposing with it.
