Miner’s Picks – Fall ’09
As we turn the page from Fall Tour and begin to look towards Miami, I have compiled the latest installment in the Miner’s Picks series – “Fall ’09.” This time around, you’ll find some repeats throughout the eight-hour highlight reel due to Phish’s proclivity for using similar vehicles throughout the run. The band chose their weapons forย this tour and slayed them each time out, playing some of the most engaging jams from similar launchpads. Providing a legitimate summary of the past tour, “Miner’s Picks: Fall ’09” arrives just in time for the holidays to spice up any dinner or cocktail party. Enjoy the psychedelia with your holiday cheer, and get ready for a Miami New Year!

@ Cal – I would guess that First Tube didn’t make the cut, because what happened that night can’t translate to video or audio properly. On re-listen, it’s really just First Tube, imo. A good song, but nothing (beyond unhinged energy) happened that was beyond the norm, musically. This is the same reason it didn’t make my fall list.
Julius, however, did ๐
even the people I know that felt insulted by the dumbed down presentation
all recommended the movie
so it does seem it works either way
there was a review of Avatar on the radio here on Friday (sung to the tune of Magnum PI, naturally) where the guy said (sang?) something to the effect of:
This film is such a modern day
acid trip with CGI.
I suggest you see it in 3-D
while you’re really f-ing high.
There’s not much of a plot
this I have to warn.
But the action starts right off
just like a kick ass porn.
that pretty well sums it up for me!
Looking forward to these. I like miner’s picks.
Holy Guacamole I am still loaded from last night, maybe I should telecommute today. In related news a lot of my neighbors are much cooler than I had them for.
Always nice to to have real kind neighbors. Property values just went up.
Should be a great day once the hangover kicks in.
Here’s hoping for a light work day that goes fast.
also, great Fall Tour picks, Miner. thanks for putting that together for everyone.
You think that Miami/2010 will have any wide open jams like that Carini/Wolfman’s? People have been saying that Fishman has been cutting off jams early, I hope he stops doing that.
Thanks for these Fall cuts Miner
Good morning all
Great picks Miner, definitely captured what most consider to be the true gems of this tour…maybe Virginia Bowie? Seemed to be the choice Bowie of fall
No MSG YEM?
LOVE My Friend>Golden Age
guess miner’s a vegetarian -that’s why there’s no meat in his picks. always interesting to see what someone’s tour highlights are. and when that person makes those highlights available to all, even better. muchas gracias, miner!
Fishman is in a tough spot
After listening to the Miami 03 run this weekend I noticed that while at time brilliant even the jams of these shows feel flat at times.
I know have a better understanding of where they donโt want to go and why.
As a drummer it seems like he has been making the veto when he starts thinking non cohesive wanking is right around the corner.
I think this drawn jamming but with a direction and a purpose is where they want to be.
Check out the MSG Light for a perfect example.
Non of the long drawn out vamping without much jamming.
Non of the frantic playing over each other without sense of cohesion.
Non of the non-fluid dramatic turns to the jams.
No abrupt ending by Fish
I really think they are just building up their jamming style right
When they get there, they will let it fly.
Turn on the hose and let her go
Not to disect all your picks but what makes the MSG Reba the Reba of choice over Philly? I felt the Philly Reba was one of the most blissed out moments of fall. Everyone in the room was left with mouths agape.
VA Bowie!
almost nailed her their boys
need to spin some of the other versions but this one I’m liking for certain
because the MSG reba smokes Philly IMO ๐
lots of 03 bashing going on…I’d take 03 over 09 in a heartbeat, however, I do believe 010 will crush 2004 ๐
Philly Reba>MSG Reba IMO
The band was on fire 1st set 12/4
pretty much flawless playing througout
that over the top shredfest on 46 days just screams
“Trey is Back”
Can I just say that what makes the blackboard full of the right kind of people is that it is hosted by someone that is obviously in it for the love of the music. Not the party, or the extracurriculars, just the music. It attracts the right people. So, thank you sir.
yeah, much thanks MIner
AW wha Miami fo you need t do you need.
I have to agree with the MSG YEM. I happened to be listening to 12/4 Set II at the gym yesterday and I was again impressed at Trey’s work during the YEM jam. Neemor and I briefly discussed how well executed this song was before the boys came back out for encore. Upon re-listen, I have to say that it’s one of my favorite versions of the year……. Give it a spin if you haven’t yet!
interesting Miner
I had been hearing all the 03 Miami run love so went back for a listen
kind of gave me that sad feeling I had back then when seeing shows
not a healthy sound
although I think in general 2003 has been better as a whole
I feel that this 4 night run will blow out those 2003 shows
I did not like the p-funk, found the whole LA Woman part to be very rough
besides the Piper I just did not get it
my opinion and I am never been a big 2003 guy
03 had great and not so great, sometimes within the same song. I saw a ton of shows that year, and 04. Loved every one of them, even coventry.
I appreciate the consistency and polished feel of 09.
Take the good, take the bad….
I love it all
that Piper is heavenly though
“No MSG YEM?”
^ I tired to avoid repeats except for “suites” and Cincy Yem makes MSG’s its beeotch.
I like the way they sound after a good night’s sleep
