@bk…that Gin is pure evil and pure bliss at the same time…pure genius, I never get tired of it

  2. c0wfunk Says:

    some 99 recs

7/1/99 – bluegrass superstars sit-in for much of first set – especially check out the roggae. 3 song second set.

someone before mentioned 7/3-4/99 atlanta – I second that emotion

    7/9/99 – pyite>free>what’s the use>meatstick, mikes>sweet emotion> twist >weekapaug second set

7/10/99 – live phish release. Hear it to believe it. Originates much of the jamming style of 99 in the chalkdust and birds. Tweezer>mist is also very nice.

    7/12/99 – foreplay/longtime electric style!

    7/13/99 – halley’s>roses>n02, spacey second set, tuesday’s gone encore

7/15/99 – if you like band energy struggles, this split open > kung > jam is one of the best. Split starts as 2001 by fish, mike drops the split bassline on it, and they argue musically from there.

7/24/99 – controversial show, but full of bustouts and a 23 minute or so fluffhead

not that familiar w/ the japan run so I’ll skip it..

9/17/99 – yem -> bass jam w/ phil and Mike getting all fugueish on that mofo. also cold rain and snow and viola lee blues

12/10-11/99 philly – first night has a great bowie > have mercy, second night first set opens w/ hood>mikes>simple>h2>paug, and the second set is a dance fest of boogie on, sneakin sally>ghost>2001>dwd

12/18/99 hampton – 2001 w/ ‘do you feel like we do’ teases, weekapaug>buffalo bill> weekapaug w/ norwegian wood teases

    and of course big cypress

There are a lot of shows from 99 I don’t know very well so I’m sure I’ve missed some here

    @cow

you have definitely out done yourself.

goodness gracious that is a ridiculous list of shows to grab.

thanks again so much, i will be coming back to these posts often in the next few weeks thats for sure.

  4. c0wfunk Says:

my pleasure – it was fun going back through those lists and remembering all that goodness! A list for me of stuff to grab as well. Much of this stuff I used to have on analog but haven’t heard in a while. I happen to have an uhhmm “audio photographic memory” or something for this stuff..

  5. BrandonKayda Says:

Yeah, thanks again c0w, you’re giving me some great picks as well.

  6. chefbradford Says:

cow, that’s at least the 2nd time today that the 7/10/99 show has been mentioned, and it pleases me. Tweezer>Mist (with a healthy What’s the Use jam) is sweet, but that Chalkdust, man it rocks. Somebody in a review said it was a jam on Joe Satriani’s “Summer Song”. I can see that it has a similar feel, but it is NOT a jam on any version of that song that I’ve heard. Also read a review that said that it segues into Roggae “just when it gets interesting”. Where was that guy for the entire 16 or so minutes of the song, in the f-ing bathroom? Whole thing is great, and the segue into Roggae, whether or not you like that song, is drippingly killer

  7. c0wfunk Says:

funny thing is chef I remember at the time people bitching about the “generic” setlist – complaining about chalkdust and birds! Both are reference versions .. I was blown away at the time and was vindicated when phish released it for all to hear!

  8. chefbradford Says:

There’s also a BOTT tease about 8 minutes in, I believe

  9. chefbradford Says:

Good on ya, cow, that Birds (opened set 2, no?) was, as usual, totally smoking.

Plus the Wilson opener, a nice mid-set Gin. I also think that that Water In the Sky (the acidgrass version) is excellent

Underrated show, by fans, you’re right to feel vindicated

  10. c0wfunk Says:

tweezer>mist actually opened second set, then birds

  11. c0wfunk Says:

wife about sick of the blackboard on xmas .. check in later

    merry merry once again kids!

  12. chefbradford Says:

    Later cowfunk, enjoy your toys!

  13. Lycanthropist Says:

    @chef

    how are you this evening?
hope you are having a good christmas.

    @brandon

so where are you at now in your gifts?

  14. chefbradford Says:

I’m sick, but pretty good otherwise, thanks for asking. How are you? I think I saw a post saying ‘Christmas Vacation’ is a tradition in your fam? It’s not in mine, exactly; I watch it every year. Today I took it and Scrooged (my other fave) to the rents’ and watched them

I hope your holiday has been fantastic?!

  15. BrandonKayda Says:

Actually, I am about to listen to Radiolarians III, if you want to join.

  16. chefbradford Says:

Listening to the monster of monsters, the Runaway Jim from Worchester ’97. Early on, some thrilling tone/pedal/loop work from Trey, Fish sounds pissed off. I’m guessing a lot of people thought the song was ending about 14 minutes in

  17. Lycanthropist Says:

    lol @ chef

yeah its definitely a family thing here.. my dad cracks up at it like its the first time hes seen it every time, which in turn causes us to crack up because his laugh is so infectious.

    @bk

ill be in and out but would love to see your thoughts on the tracks as you listen..

  18. chefbradford Says:

Pretty sweet blues riffs by Trey around 19 minutes. Sweet melodic themes around 22 or 23

  19. chefbradford Says:

Yeah, I didn’t even really pay attention to either movie this time, but I lost my shit where appropriate.

    “Merry Christmas…shitter’s full”

  20. Lycanthropist Says:

“now don’t go getting your heart set on it Clark. We’re takin it with us when we leave next month.”

“I wouldn’t be more surprised if i woke up with my head stapled to the carpet.”

  21. chefbradford Says:

Hell yes, Lycan, hell yes. Prolly my all-time fave X-mas flick. Scrooged is right up there with it.

These OTC meds are, unusually, kicking my ass. It’s 11 and I’m about to pass out. Don’t want to. Should. Long work day tomorrow.

Again, not enough time for Phish

  22. chefbradford Says:

Wow. Ok, first time to actually sit down and LISTEN to the 97 Wooster Jim>Week Jam>etc

    Wow

    Wow

    Wow

  23. BrandonKayda Says:

Is it worth the time, Chef?

I have heard those 1hr+ Jims are just loops for 40mins (*cough* IT 46 days *cough*)

  24. chefbradford Says:

Brandon, like I said, it’s not for everyone, but I like it. I was at IT, didn’t get the 46 Days. I get this Jim. So many movements, styles. Even if you end up hating it, it’s worth a listen, right? That’s how I feel about Phish in general. I don’t like all of it, but it’s worth checking out

  25. c0wfunk Says:

@chef you’re probably long past it but around 10 minutes or so I think there is a distinct caution jam, first by Mike, then a little by trey in his own style. That jim is a masterpiece. I love how it ends w/ a 10 minute weekapaug jam.
