    great news, thanks again!
by the 13 minute mark they are raging in full stride.
Fishman’s hi-hat pattern at that point,
in contrast with the swinging ride….
    it floors me every time.

    between this Sand,
and the 12/28/03 Suzy jam spectacular from the other day,
I feel like a basking in warm rays of FLA heat.

  4. Robear Says:

Then Cookies and Grey Goose it is!

  5. Mr.Miner Says:

I have posted the initial list of Chance Fisher Best of 2009 on the archive. I intend to trim it down (its 50+ jams right now) but I decided to go ahead and post the first draft for our fans for christmas..

kind of a limited time only thing. Now most of these can be found in the full show downloads…

But these are some of our favorite jams personally, and its a good way to kill some time.

    so check it out here:

we just got back from watching Avatar..

great visuals, bit too long, and a loose plot.

Id say see this in the theater with the 3D or dont see it at all

  16. SillyWilly Says:

    haha@Lycan

  19. Lycanthropist Says:

    @miner

that Sand is one of my all time favorite Phish jams. I am sure Im not alone in this, but I had some very very intense transcendental moments listening to that on some head phones.

  20. SillyWilly Says:

couldnt resist as theres a star wars marathon on:

…”but I was going to Toshi station to pick up some power converters.”

  21. whole tour! Says:

    Merry Christmas!

    The Time is Near
    The mission’s clear
    It’s later than we think

  22. Alex Says:

    Perfect mix for post-Christmas traveling.

  23. jed Says:

just listened to the full Sand SBD. So sweet.
    and yes, Lycanthropist,
i too have had “very very intense transcendental moments”
    deep in this Sand.

One thing that makes this version so kick-ass
is the transition to the new key of Bb major.
It starts to morph around 18:30,
when Trey plays a single note (D) riff.
Sand has been (is) in the key of A minor thus far
and D is part of that tonal center’s scale , for sure, maybe a little “out”.
But the magic hits when Mike (and Page)
move up one half step to Bb.
    In the big harmonic picture,
it relatively turns Trey’s D note into the major 3rd
of a happy, bouncing Bb major chord
Really smooth and seamless from a minor key (read: dark)
to major (happy happy joy joy)

It shows the power that a bassist has, to change one note
and affect the overall musical picture in a big way.
Cactus is a master of this sort of thing,
Reba jams, also being a perfect example of these compositional shifts
    through bass note substitutions.
check out the 4.9.94 Reba jam.

  24. SillyWilly Says:

here’s an idea for a new phish cover:

In Star Wars, the jazz ensemble tune they play in the bar at mos eisley.

    very phishy.

  25. Selector J Says:

Reggae Christmas selections presently uploading to three separate folders. Added some new tracks to the mix, too.

1 of 3 is finished. All should be done in about 30 min.
