Happy New Year!
Over the final three nights of 2009, Phish played some of their finest music of the year in a triumphant exclamation point on their comeback. Attacking Miami from all angles, the band dropped some year-defining jams, a plethora of bust-outs, and top-notch versions of nearly every song they played. Boasting an obvious confidence in every part of their game, Phish tore apart their return to American Airlines Arena with incredibly engaging nights of music . We will take a set by set look at the last three shows of the year beginning Monday, with big-picture analysis to follow.

Happy New Year !!
@Miner: Great to meet you before the 12/28 show -glad your buddy got a kick out of it too!
Brrr…it’s cold here in Mass. Am already ready to return to MIA for NYE 2010. Thankfully I expect my post-show glow will last for quite some time.
Yeah man, those were some special shows.
Can’t wait to hear the phishthoughts! I’ve been listening nonstop.
Mr Miner, we are all looking forward to your posts! I had a blast listening to streams of nights 1 and 2, and am now deeply involved in listening to the LP SBDs of nights 2 and 3 (NYE must wait for now)
All top-notch stuff
Glad you made it safely home, I hope everyone else does/did
posted a late-night/inebriated note on the last page of the last (intriguing) write-up
Good to hear from you again mr. Miner! Can’t wait for your posts!
What a year 2009 has been!! And what a New Year’s Run to top it all off… Boom! These shows will get me through the winter for sure… the best (yet) of this new blooming Phish sound…
Thank you Phish for the music!
Thank you Mr. Miner for the gathering!
Thank you everybody for the sharing!
Long Live Le Phish!! 🙂
Wow Miner, its good to hear you. When you do something so regular for so long, some of us noids wonder if something went wrong. I was worried the Makisupa got you!
Hi folks, what a NYE run. Those were some of the best shows I could attend since my first shows in ’97 (Munich and Nuremberg). As I am from Germany and was a student back then I couldn’t afford to travel until ’03. 2009 was definately a very good year for all of us. You can read about the whole experience from the view of European fans on http://www.bouncingaroundeuroom.eu (in English) and there’s also a day-by-day blog with lots of pictures from Miami (taken during the day and night). We would love to get some comments from all of you. Thanks for checking it out… )
He’s alive….He’s alive (insert sinister laugh here) ala Gene Wilder!
What a run. Mindblowing music, outstanding parties, wonderful friends. I’m actually kind of glad they aren’t touring again till summer. My wife and I watched the third set of NYE from the top row of the arena. Spent a lot of time reflecting on the things that need to be done over the next few months. I’m glad I have some time to regain some focus. But I’ll carry these memories of 09 Phish forever, and will store them away for when I need to go to that happy place.
@ Holger – thanks for the link, great stuf!!!
As I sit here (my last day of vacation before I return to work) I find myself reflecting a bit on things. I have been very lucky. Beautiful wife who understands my passion for Phish (hence letting me attend 12 shows in 2009). Three beatiful kids (all healthy).
Also a true sense of joy washing over me for having people like Miner who put in all this effort in so we have a place to meet and chat. Miner is similar to the Band. They don’t owe us anything, they do it to spark an emotion from people. Miner, I am sure you spend countless hours on your computer, wrtining reviews, uploading music for us to share. From the bottom of my heart….Thank you for everything you do. You have given us a place to connect, I am sure there are countless relationships you’ve established form this thing!!
We can never say it enough……
We owe you a lot!
Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year’s, Mr. Miner.
Stellar work all year long.
::raises glass::
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO MR. MINER AND EVERYONE WHO PROUDLY PROCLAIMS THEIR THOUGHTS ON THIS BOARD!
WHAT A GREAT TRIP IT HAS BEEN!
STILL BUZZED FROM THAT THROW-DOWN AND I DON’T FEEL IT LETTIN’ UP ANY TIME SOON.
PEACE Y’ALL!
I’d like to echo Willowed’s thoughts. Miner, you’re doing work no one asked of you and holding yourself up to a very high standard. Thanks for doing it and keeping up the terrific output. You have built something great for the community here.
funny thing about “Shine a Light, i think the Stones performed that song no more than a couple of times their whole 87 1/2 year career.
Welcome back Miner! Looking forward to your play by play and the Big Picture.
NO TTE!!
Great shows, great time. 12/29 was FTK and THE bday kickdown of the decade!!

Trey and the boys gave all doubters (myself included) a big

There are at least 10 jams in this run that are best of 2009!

I’d like to live inside those shows in Miami. Not sure how to make that happen. Having access to soundboard recordings and the intense memories will help.
All the little things happened in Miami that let me know I was in the right place at the right time.
I left satiated. Stuffed to the gills with goodness.
10 years ago, I became a bit dis-illusioned with the band and scene. This comeback could not have gone any better, from where I sit.
A big fat hell ya’ on the thanks to Miner.
I spent MSG run with Mitch and Frankie. Spent much time at Indio with Marshall and KWL. Lots of other visits from board members. Spent most of the Miami run with AW, and his ladies. It’s like a re-birth into the scene. Meeting mature, mellow, kind heads to share the experience with.
Thanks to everyone that took time to check out the Waterwheel Table this year. By all accounts, we had a banner, record setting season.
Miner will be able to describe the music with more eloquence than I ever could. Can’t wait to read and digest again.
