Summer Tour?

Red Rocks (W.Rogell)

While we are still braving the cold of January, rumors of summer Phish have begun to fall from the winter air. After Trey announced a half-year break on New Year’s Eve, nobody thought we’d be hearing any rumblings of rumors and announcements in the first half of January. Without any shows scheduled for the first part of the year, one would expect a full-slate come summertime. While we still have almost five months ahead of us before amphitheatre season officially opens, there is no time like the present to speculate.

Thus far, these are the dates being reported:

  • 6/3-4 Deer Creek
  • 6/5-6 Alpine
  • 6/11-12 SPAC

6.18.09 (M.Stein)

If these dates prove true, we are looking at a cornfield kickoff to summer tour at Deer Creek, a place that has traditionally hosted tour-ending parties. Such an early-season start might suggest another two-leg affair as in 2009, as one would expect Phish to hit most major markets during the summer concert season. With the initial eastward path plotted by these few unconfirmed dates, Phish will likely hit up the Northeastern venues before taking a dip south through the mid-Atlantic. West coast shows might comprise leg two once again, as it seems unlikely the band will criss-cross the country like back in the day. Sure, this is a lot of guess-work based on a couple of rumors, but, hey, it’s January, and things are pretty quiet in the Phish world.

With 2009 behind them, 2010 could represent a musical rebirth of Phish. After logging a solid comeback year, one would imagine that the band will begin to push their music in a new direction. Throughout last year, Phish moved from tighter, rock and roll jams in June to wide-open improv in Miami, reacquainting themselves with their skills along the way. Now it’s time to really open things up, and we’ve only got four and a half months to go…hopefully.

Summer won’t be here soon enough!! But, until then, at least we have TAB! That’ll keep me a little warm 🙂

  2. garretc Says:

You mean YOU have tab… Us west coasters are all shut out of the fun…

  3. Stir it with a Ladle Says:

Where is this information coming from for summer tour, I have a friend that works at alpine scheduling that is confirming the 6/6 date but he stated to me he’s not sure of the 6/5 but hes hearing more about 6/7, just a little curious….maybe 3 nights?

  4. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

so who else besides me works for a company that doesn’t honor MLK Day?

Nothing like having to work on a “holiday” and then having to shovel 4 inches of snow cone snow (i.e. very wet, very heavy) before getting on the road to said job…

  5. Gratefulcub Says:

Please forgive me one repost from Saturday evening.

Although many of you know, I wanted to let the rest know that the little peppadew, aka Parker Elizabeth, decided to come a little early, and she was born Saturday. She is healthy and mom is doing well. We should get to take her home today.

I sincerely appreciate all of the well wishes.

When I had her alone, and needed to calm her down with a song, I realized I am deficient in lullaby knowledge. I had to laugh when “Cadillac rainbows and lots of spaghetti” came out of my mouth. Turns out, I have found the perfect use for Let Me Lie.

To answer marshall’s question: although I first alerted all family and friends first, I announced here about 90 minutes after birth.

Is this the first blackboard birth announcement;)?

Well, they just brought my baby back from the nursery. Cheers.

  6. kb Says:

i love living 30 mins from SPAC!

  7. halcyon Says:

Type 3….I work today from 12 pm – 11pm, and have been up since 3:30am. It sucks having to work when most other bureaucratic organizations have off. Its worse having to work when you have had insomnia, have to work a 11 hour day, and have a 45 minute commute each way. Ugh. 🙁

  8. bhizzle Says:

    @ cub

Congrats!!! That’s a beautiful name. Glad to hear everyone is good. Make sure you have a car seat else you won’t be taking anyone home!

When I had to sing a song, I too, came up short with the traditional lullaby and ended up singing Young’s Love is a Rose or Harvest. Don’t know why I choose those songs cuz I hadn’t been listening to any of Neil, but they were what came spouting out.

Also….sorry bout your Ravens. I was pulling for them, but it Indy’s D was just too big.

  9. Marshall Says:

    Awesome G.cub, awesome.

Looks like My calendar for early June is now booked. Will hit the first two at Deer Creek and then am going to assume that I’ll get some southeastern dates. Just like the old days for Marshall.

    For 2010 I hope to …

Return to DC for the 4th trip (will be my 6th & 7th shows there)
Hit Atlanta again finally (7th & 8th shows)
Maybe get a Raleigh again (2nd show)
Make it to the Gorge and/or RR finally
Bask among the Palm Trees in Indio

probably around 7 summer shows if I’m lucky plus Indio.

assuming there is a Southeast run, I’ll likely skip out on AV this year (loved it but too far of a drive from S.Carolina).

Add to that a southeastern arena run this fall and maybe I’ll break my record (set in 2000) of 11 shows.

    Cant wait!

  10. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    congrats, cub!

  11. Lycanthropist Says:

    FWIW-

Mr. C posted a pretty in depth mix of GD tunes last night at the end of the comments.

    Check it out!

  12. Willowed Says:

Just went online and checked out a few hotles near SPAC.
    Holiday Inn – Booked
    Marriot – Booked

There is room at the Hilton Garden Inn – Pretty pricey.

Does anyone know a few solid camp grounds up there? Please share.

  13. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @halcyon
yeah, now I don’t feel so bad about my day… good luck with that.

  14. Dr. Pronoia (ie, BK) Says:

    Congratulations @cub!

And Thank You Mr. C for those mixes you posted last night. I turned in early and was very excited to find those “shows” when I awoke.

Take it easy today, in honor of MLK, and if you’re at work, steal something from those racist bastards…

  15. tela'smuff Says:

so i had a funeral this weekend for my gpa and missed out on snaggin Trey tickets for Chicago. Suprised they sold out so quick quite honestly. Anybody have 1 extra???

  16. marcoesq Says:

    morning all, congrats cub!

    summer tour!

  17. nonoyolker Says:

@ Cub – Congratulations buddy!! Beautiful name. Really glad everything went well. Funny story about the Halley’s lyrics. I decided that if i ever have a child, the first music they ever hear will be the reba jam from 1994.07.06. A life started with good melody can’t turn out bad…

@ TIII – work too. that walk to work was a lonely one.

  18. Dr. Pronoia (ie, BK) Says:

Some of my best memories are of phish at DC-Alpine. Ahhh, I can spend today with a smile…

  19. marcoesq Says:

    @TIII

I’m at work, hoping others are too so I can make some $

  20. marcoesq Says:

    @cub

So she came in lieu of a Ravens win for us sat? Guess that works out ok 🙂

  21. Willowed Says:

    Nice work Cub. Congrats!

  22. Stupendous Says:

    Morning Yall
    At work also……
    Congrats Cub!
Would love to book in a trip to Hotlanta in the summer!

  23. Wilson8or Says:

@ DR> You know I agree! PS: Wilson has been found!

  24. Neemor Says:

    Happy Birthday, Parker Elizabeth!
Glad to hear the whole peppadew family is doing well.
    Congrats, daddy.
Yes, this is the first BlackBoard Birth to date, to my recollection.

JOTD is classic, classic buildup, classic release in the Also Sprach, classic gentle segue into the Antelope. I type this before hearing the Antelope, but I’m sure it’s a classic, taboot. What an out-of-the-way venue. I tried to picture what it would’ve taken to get me to Arizona to see Phish in ’94 (my Junior year of H.S.) besides a letter from my parents or theft of their car. Oh well, good to hear it finally.

Good to hear some summer dates. It’s ridiculous how quickly hotels sell out to rumors in Phish world, but I should be used to it. I can see myself heading to the Creek again this year, stretching it to Alpine Valley, but it all depends on how the dates shape up on the East Coast for this CT native.

Happy MLK, Jr. Day, everyone. Remember the Dream.

  25. Lycanthropist Says:

good morning all my fellow workers who have to be at work on a holiday.
