Summer Tour?

Red Rocks (W.Rogell)

While we are still braving the cold of January, rumors of summer Phish have begun to fall from the winter air. After Trey announced a half-year break on New Year’s Eve, nobody thought we’d be hearing any rumblings of rumors and announcements in the first half of January. Without any shows scheduled for the first part of the year, one would expect a full-slate come summertime. While we still have almost five months ahead of us before amphitheatre season officially opens, there is no time like the present to speculate.

Thus far, these are the dates being reported:

  • 6/3-4 Deer Creek
  • 6/5-6 Alpine
  • 6/11-12 SPAC

6.18.09 (M.Stein)

If these dates prove true, we are looking at a cornfield kickoff to summer tour at Deer Creek, a place that has traditionally hosted tour-ending parties. Such an early-season start might suggest another two-leg affair as in 2009, as one would expect Phish to hit most major markets during the summer concert season. With the initial eastward path plotted by these few unconfirmed dates, Phish will likely hit up the Northeastern venues before taking a dip south through the mid-Atlantic. West coast shows might comprise leg two once again, as it seems unlikely the band will criss-cross the country like back in the day. Sure, this is a lot of guess-work based on a couple of rumors, but, hey, it’s January, and things are pretty quiet in the Phish world.

With 2009 behind them, 2010 could represent a musical rebirth of Phish. After logging a solid comeback year, one would imagine that the band will begin to push their music in a new direction. Throughout last year, Phish moved from tighter, rock and roll jams in June to wide-open improv in Miami, reacquainting themselves with their skills along the way. Now it’s time to really open things up, and we’ve only got four and a half months to go…hopefully.

What’s the over/under phish puts out another album this year?

  2. Neemor Says:

Ever been so hurt by an ex that it’s not possible to beginning a healthy dating life cycle again?

    Lycan – I’m in Rock-chester,NY.

Love me some Pixies, but Bossanova (that has Dig For Fire?) is good, but I’m a bigger fan of Come On Pilgrim or Trompe Le Monde. I’ll have to take another listen to it. It’s been awhile.

  4. Neemor Says:

    Excellent query, Litteringand…
I just read the article that talked about what TAB will bring to Phish this year, no reason they can’t squeeze out another.
I would say that the relatively lackluster success of ‘Joy’, and albums in general, really doesn’t push the artists to put out another album this year.
I dunno. I could see it though, just due to their extreme happiness in being back doind what they love.

@ Neemor – How’d Friday go buddy? You get her up on Leemor’s bed? Was she foggy rather groggy? Hope you everything went well.

Phish album? May be too soon. They did put out two last year, but you never know. 1:4 chance?

Ever since talks of the VA Beach ’99 show last week, I’ve been spinning the 23 min Fee jam a ton. Forgot what a sick jam that was. The Birds > Only Had a Brain was always my go to from this show. Both are really solid jams.

  6. marcoesq Says:

What’s your source for that show, can you share?

I was the one that originally put it out there and never got a source out of it!

  7. nonoyolker Says:

@ Marco – not sure the actual source. I had it burned on a cd from like 2000 or 2001. May be from phishshows originally? not a great source, but it holds up ok. was actually looking for a better source over the weekend, but had no luck.

Sorry for you Ravens buddy, rough game. Pulling for New Orleans now…

  8. Neemor Says:

    Thanks for asking, non:
It went pretty well but I find myself not being stunned.
If I’m finding excuses not to being her up on n(l)eemor’s bed, she must not be sparking the magic.
Too bad…I was curious about this one for decades, really.

  9. Neemor Says:

bringing her up on, of course

  10. marcoesq Says:

hmm, I’ll have to keep looking…phishows sources are usually sub par but I’ll check it

yeah man, tough game, we didn’t deserve it

I was pulling for the Chargers but not anymore, Saints it is!

Let’s see if my new avatar works…

  12. Neemor Says:

Your avatar freaks me out a bit.

  13. BrandonKayda Says:

    Do I have a Zappa avatar yet? I don’t see a change

  14. BTB Says:

    Deer Creek,

    See you at Alpine Valley.

    Peace and Love,

I’ve seen several reports on the SPAC and Alpine dates. Nice. I’m thinking Midwest > South > Northeast to finish Leg I.

  15. Litteringand Says:

Another question for the board- Was the Bonnaroo thing a one and done deal or do you see them going back this year?

  16. Neemor Says:

If the dates are lining up properly, and there is indeed a left coast second leg, that’ll line up pretty well with another Halloween Festival.
I would think, in typing that, that it’s not happening two years in a row.

I would imagine a full boat of dates if it’s two legs…Bonner Springs, Arizona, etc.
I hope they sprinkle in those small venues like they did in ’09, I think that creates excitement and keeps the band on their toes, too.

  17. nonoyolker Says:

@ Neemor – ahh, this was a girl you were interested in for a while? That is tough when they don’t live up to expectations. Especially if you have built them up in your mind.
If you aren’t stunned, no need to settle. Seems like you are a really unique cat, so keep the search alive. (cyber-bro-hug) All good things in all due time. It’ll come. And if you can get a few games of twister in with some psuedo special ladies in the meantime, no harm, no foul.

Its good to know that I am not the only one on my block working today – the construction workers who have been drilling outside my office window since Oct ’08 are hard at work… My ‘Dude’ bobblehead is going haywire. Hate this place…

i have definitely been heartbroken beyond repair (or so it felt at the time).

    my worst heart break story:
I live in Hattiesburg, MS which is an hour north of the Gulf Coast. I had been seeing this girl for about a year. We were in a bit of a tumultuous relationship due to the fact that none of my friends liked her or thought we should be together. Looking back they were right, but I was blinded by “love” and by the fact that she was a Phan, free spirit etc. Until her I had usually dated fairly reserved women (probably some Freudian thing relating to my mother).

Anyway, she had become a real wedge between me and my band. She treated me horrible while we were together. She would disappear for weeks at a time, and then come back needy as hell. She had a pretty good hold on me, and I am ashamed to admit that I was so very easily manipulated by her charms.

Ok so flash forward to a day before Hurricane Katrina. We had decided that we were both gonna really work at getting this relationship stable and solid together. We enjoyed an evening together, and then the news that Katrina was going to hit the next day. We decided to head to her mother’s house to ride out the storm (little did we know just how serious the storm was gonna be).

So Katrina came, and we together witnessed the most beautiful, terrifying, humbling display of weather I have ever seen. It had a very profound effect on me, life changing you could say. I retreated into my own reverie.

The next day all the power was down, the water was off and we were trapped out the house by huge piles of debris. So me and this girl spent the next couple days living off old groceries and without shower.

I myself thought that this kind of experience would bring two people closer together. This crazy psycho decided that it would be the perfect time to break up the relationship. I kid you not, she said she needed space and that I should go.

Go? Go where? Hattiesburg had been destroyed, I didn’t even know if my house still stood at this point. I couldn’t believe it.

The silver lining: The instant this happened I woke up. I realized that the whole relationship had been a mistake and that I had been blinded by lust.

The scars left behind: I deep mistrust of women for a while. But then I met my beautiful wife, the most incredible creature I have ever known.

All this to say: Time heals wounds, and if she broke your heart, then screw her she didn’t deserve it anyway.

about time you cemented your spot on this board with an avatar!

It’s Bingos birthday and I get the gift?
Thanks for the post Miner, it means a lot to me.
    Happy Birthday kid. Love ya.

  21. BrandonKayda Says:

Yeah I really like this one too

Damn, sorry about that Neemor. As Lycan said, she probably didn’t deserve you anyways

  23. marcoesq Says:

Good story, kind of reminds me of advice that I’ve had to give to my brother, (2) best friends and others:

“Trust the opinions of your family and friends when it comes to significant others, they know you better than you know yourself sometimes (especially when your “blinded by love” and if they do not like your girlfriend/boyfriend, it’s time for them to go..”

  24. Mr. Palmer Says:

Morning all. Lycan, thats some story man, her loss. Just found out a former work collegue’s 19 year old daughter is still missing in haiti. Saw him on TV and nearly went into shock. Such a tragedy.

  25. Neemor Says:

I love a historical love story.
    Good stuff.
Yeah, it’s very strange…as far past my fiancee as I thought I was (enough to try my hand at dating once again), it hurts more today than it did eight months ago….
    I’m a fucking trooper, though.

In my circumstance, the woman was the hurricane….
    One hell of a storm.
