Summer Tour?

Red Rocks (W.Rogell)

While we are still braving the cold of January, rumors of summer Phish have begun to fall from the winter air. After Trey announced a half-year break on New Year’s Eve, nobody thought we’d be hearing any rumblings of rumors and announcements in the first half of January. Without any shows scheduled for the first part of the year, one would expect a full-slate come summertime. While we still have almost five months ahead of us before amphitheatre season officially opens, there is no time like the present to speculate.

Thus far, these are the dates being reported:

  • 6/3-4 Deer Creek
  • 6/5-6 Alpine
  • 6/11-12 SPAC

6.18.09 (M.Stein)

If these dates prove true, we are looking at a cornfield kickoff to summer tour at Deer Creek, a place that has traditionally hosted tour-ending parties. Such an early-season start might suggest another two-leg affair as in 2009, as one would expect Phish to hit most major markets during the summer concert season. With the initial eastward path plotted by these few unconfirmed dates, Phish will likely hit up the Northeastern venues before taking a dip south through the mid-Atlantic. West coast shows might comprise leg two once again, as it seems unlikely the band will criss-cross the country like back in the day. Sure, this is a lot of guess-work based on a couple of rumors, but, hey, it’s January, and things are pretty quiet in the Phish world.

With 2009 behind them, 2010 could represent a musical rebirth of Phish. After logging a solid comeback year, one would imagine that the band will begin to push their music in a new direction. Throughout last year, Phish moved from tighter, rock and roll jams in June to wide-open improv in Miami, reacquainting themselves with their skills along the way. Now it’s time to really open things up, and we’ve only got four and a half months to go…hopefully.

  2. Mr. Palmer Says:

If they do play Bethel, it will be a mad scamble for lodging. i remember having trouble finding a decent room for WSP, and the place was 1/2 filled.

Just checking in and catching up on the posts from this morning……. Wish I could contribute more, but I feel like I’m late to the game. My posting might be kind of sporadic for a while since I lost my job last Thursday and I need to focus on finding work now. 2010 is shaping up to be a banner year for this guy 🙁 Mortgage, kid on the way, no $$$. Another one of life’s fun little challenges. Funny thing is that I was joking last week about getting fired for spending too much time on here and it ended up just being a personal issue between myself and the man in charge. Guess you need to be careful about stepping on toes even if it’s with good intentions. Someone told me once that being right doesn’t always make you right. Prolly should have listened……….

Cub ~ HUGE congratulations buddy! Definitely a bright spot in my day. I’m looking forward to hearing all you have to share about being a dad as I will be doing that myself soon enough! Loved the Let Me Lie story. That would have been the first one I thought of as well…..

  5. Robear Says:

hmmmm, when’s the Portland show? I need a new vehicle. Car shopping, Further hopping ala Portland….

  6. Mr. Completely Says:

    cool Palmer.

FWIW, you are all welcome for these but actually there is little effort involved in my sharing them. I make the mixes for my own benefit and only share them after they have been in rotation long enough to be sure they’re solid. All it takes to share them is zipping and uploading the files, no big deal.

“Just a Dream” vol 1 is done uploading. vol.2 is starting now. These are where it’s at for me. However, each Playin’ in the Band features two (2!) aggressive/horrible Donna shrieks that will hurt you if they catch you by surprise. They’re always in the same places, so just be on it. And the Playin’ jams are well worth the vigilance required to play them safely 8)

  7. Mr. Palmer Says:

That sucks Harry, I know your pain all too well myself. Keep your chin up. Network your balls off!

prince is the shit! and you thought ike turner was a bad mutha’, watch out apalonia!

on a more serious note: NEWS, i think its called, is 60 min of prince killing it! I think he made it as a reaction to someone calling out his musical skills. this album will shut up anyone who doubts him.

  9. Mr. Completely Says:

@R – 3/8. it’s “sold out” but we all know what that means. as mentioned, you are welcome at my house any time.

    Hang in there, HarryHood.

I learned the hard way, even when you’re right, you’re wrong, sometimes in life. Learned that living on an intentional community.

  17. Mr. Completely Says:

eh, I listened to the New Years’ show

it didn’t freak me out or make me depressed

wasn’t great or anything…sounded sorta like a mediocre Dead show I guess. Had a couple interesting parts with real improv, a little more open than usual Phil stuff.

still not into Fake Jerry but going into it with good intentions, not gonna be a hater

  18. pagesidehighschool Says:

@mr.c, Its an instrumental album, four tacks, 15 min a piece. I think he plays lots of parts in it too, i once heard he can play 18 different instruments, or something silly like that

  19. BrandonKayda Says:

    Really sorry about that Hood

    Hope all turns out well

  20. Mr. Completely Says:

I’m so buying that prince album!

  21. nonoyolker Says:

@ Harry – hang in there man. Sorry for the rough news. Just get your name out there and i’m sure something good will come up.

Prince = absurdly talented. It would be interesting to hear what he would have been like if he came up in the 60’s – early 70’s. 80’s were a weird time for a lot of people.

  22. Joe Says:

definitley want to avoid political talk, but there is an interesting special election here in Massachusetts tomorrow to replace Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat. Believe it or not the republican candidate has a legitimate chance to pull the upset and become the obstacle in the senate to any democratic bills (ie. healthcare). Kind of funny that liberal Massachusetts is in the position to alter the dynamic against the liberal agenda.

  23. HarryHood Says:

Networking is definitely key. Luckily, I’ve made good contacts and become better friends with most of my co-workers and former employers than I had ever really imagined until now. I’ve had a ton of support from everyone since last week which has been extremely helpful from a mindset perspective. Now I’ve just got to dust off and get to work finding work…….. I was a getting little too comfortable with my life and maybe this is life’s way of teaching me not to take things for granted. Who knows? Chalk it up to a learning experience I guess.

  24. Joe Says:

Bizzare Prince, Michael Jackson and James Brown video from 1983

  25. Mr. Palmer Says:

El Dude- you mean Kiss Meets the Phantom in the Park? If so, you are correct sir. Nothing a close second in the suckage category.
