Summer Tour?

Red Rocks (W.Rogell)

While we are still braving the cold of January, rumors of summer Phish have begun to fall from the winter air. After Trey announced a half-year break on New Year’s Eve, nobody thought we’d be hearing any rumblings of rumors and announcements in the first half of January. Without any shows scheduled for the first part of the year, one would expect a full-slate come summertime. While we still have almost five months ahead of us before amphitheatre season officially opens, there is no time like the present to speculate.

Thus far, these are the dates being reported:

  • 6/3-4 Deer Creek
  • 6/5-6 Alpine
  • 6/11-12 SPAC

6.18.09 (M.Stein)

If these dates prove true, we are looking at a cornfield kickoff to summer tour at Deer Creek, a place that has traditionally hosted tour-ending parties. Such an early-season start might suggest another two-leg affair as in 2009, as one would expect Phish to hit most major markets during the summer concert season. With the initial eastward path plotted by these few unconfirmed dates, Phish will likely hit up the Northeastern venues before taking a dip south through the mid-Atlantic. West coast shows might comprise leg two once again, as it seems unlikely the band will criss-cross the country like back in the day. Sure, this is a lot of guess-work based on a couple of rumors, but, hey, it’s January, and things are pretty quiet in the Phish world.

With 2009 behind them, 2010 could represent a musical rebirth of Phish. After logging a solid comeback year, one would imagine that the band will begin to push their music in a new direction. Throughout last year, Phish moved from tighter, rock and roll jams in June to wide-open improv in Miami, reacquainting themselves with their skills along the way. Now it’s time to really open things up, and we’ve only got four and a half months to go…hopefully.

To accentuate my point on 80’s weird, my female baby sitter showed up to take care of me one Halloween dressed as Boy George circa Culture Club era, then proceeded to explain her costume. I was so confused…

@ Joe – Smith is ahead by 3% last i heard. Turns out dude posed nude in cosmo or some shit?? Coakley has been low blowing, suprised she didn’t low blow the nude ish (no pun intended)

I will definitely pick it up next time I’m out. Sounds interesting

Also might add a Wooktionary to the Face Meltage site.

Actually got a lot of stupid ideas. Something with to do with the PH scene, but also the general music scene today. Could be fun. I’ll see what I can do.

  4. Joe Says:

non- not trying to be a prick – His name is Brown, maybe he is kind of a himbo (not sure) but the election seems to be that people really are turned off by a career (Coakley) politician who acted entitled to the office simply by being a democrat in Mass.

  5. nonoyolker Says:

@ Joe – sorry man, brain-lapse. Brown’s the guy. I am getting the same impression from people about Coakley as well. Need to do some research about each before the election tomorrow.

  6. Joe Says:

like I said earlier, I don’t want to get into preach mode about who stands for what, and who I’m voting for, etc. Just wanted to point it out as a very interesting turn of events and a compelling/important political story.

  7. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

I received calls over the weekend from Bill Clinton, Martha Coakley, Scott Brown, Arianna Brown (his daughter), and Curt Shilling (multiple times). I felt so important!

  8. Joe Says:

type III, on a landline?(I only have cell) I feel so leftout that I didn’t get a call….I’m a registered independent too.

  9. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

yeah, on the land line, joe. thankfully they haven’t crossed over to cells yet, but give them time…

  10. nonoyolker Says:

Ummm, Coakley left me messages on my CELL (wtf?). at least 3 in the past two weeks. not sure how she got that info. but yeah, on my cell…

    Miner what up!?!?

way to keep us on track with summer ’10 rumors

which coming from you are usually solid as a rock

    i’ve said it before but:

when Trey announced they’d be back in summer

and dropped “Loving Cup” what a warm rich feeling washed over

the arena, i turned to AW and said “no Europe tour”

a celebratory feeling rushed through me of all that ’09 was

and how special and lucky we all are to be a part of this

i was able to celebrate and understand how fragile this all is at the

    same time.

when i proposed the question before Miami:

what if they don’t play in ’10? some folks treated me as if i was crazy

so the reality is no shows for at least the first 5 months of ’10

    i love it:

Phish not trying to keep up with an arduous pace they had set

for themselves and all of us in the past.

Get your shit together, keep your shit together, love your families

    expand your empires

and lets all be fresh for Summer Tour ’10 😉

I thought Florida was America’s wang

    sorry, bad joke… 😉

MrC, I dont see any love for the summer of ’85 in your brent era compilation. Whats ups with that? 🙂

    6/21 Alpine – Down In The Bottom > I Ain’t Superstitious
    6/24 – Riverbend – Cryptical Envelopment -> Drums -> Space -> Comes A Time -> The Other One -> Cryptical Envelopment
6/27 – SPAC – Crazy Fingers > Supplication > High Time, Feel Like A Stranger > Eyes Of The World
6/28 Hershey Park – The Music Never Stopped, Morning Dew > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away
    6/30 MPP – Shakedown St.

  21. Mr. Completely Says:

@jay – those mixes are based on what I had on my HDs at the time, which was mostly ’79 and 87-90, based mostly just on what was rolling across etree in the previous six months or so. High Time volumes 3 and 4 are in the tracking and editing stages and feature a lot more ’85 which I agree is under-represented. I love all those shows you mention, also the Greek run (but I have the Oade auds, which don’t mixtape well with sbds) and 4/27 (which is a segue-fest and also hard to mix-ify) and some other spring shows too…

Public Service Announcement Of The Day:

For those who are looking for a clear definitive F.O.B. upgrade to the Mark Nutter Microtech Geffell 296 source and like me, do not like FM sources of THE GREAT WENT here it is:

    Neumann TLM 170’s F.O.B.

I would grab this if I were YOU!!!

  23. Marshall Says:

I remember watching the Bill Maher show a long time ago (where he would have four guests sitting with him). John Popper was one guest and a black music journalist was the other (I want to say it was Randy Jackson but that’s probably wrong – more likely someone from Rolling Stone or Vibe). Anyway, the subject of “best live performer” came up. Popper said without a pause, “Phish.” The black guy whose name I forget said “Prince.”

I figured then, that if Prince was being put in the same discussion with Phish, and the guy knew what he was talking about, then his shows must have been for real.

I’ll catch him if I ever get a chance to.

  24. Marshall Says:

El Dude – when people talk about FM sources in terms of show recordings, do they mean captured from a live FM radio broadcast? Or does is mean something else?

  25. Mr. Completely Says:

    nice one @dude!

“If memory serves, during the break between the 1st and second set, Eric Vandercar and Dr. Rob Shiner helped me find the bad connection on my external battery pack for the Sonosax and resolder it.”

epic. resoldering on the fly at setbreak. my kind of guys.
