A Post-Hiatus Playlist

7.10.03 (A.Markarian)

Out of the many great Phish jams during the post-hiatus era, here are a couple of top-shelf selections.

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing” 6.19.04 II SPAC

Evoking the feel of Pink Floyd’s psy-rock, this piece of improv is among my favorite regardless of era. A truly masterful excursion, this song needs to find itself back into rotation come summer.

Scents and Subtle Sounds” 7.30.03 I Camden

Arguably the most impressive version ever played – it would certainly get my vote – this “Scents” highlighted the first set in one of the band’s most impressive post-hiatus’ outing.

Mr. Completely > Low Rider” 7.15.03 II West Valley, Utah

In one of ’03s out-of-the-way and undersold shows, Phish debuted Trey’s longtime TAB classic, “Mr. Completely,” and with it came a furious half-hour of non-stop groove.

Twist” 6.20.04 II SPAC

Another interstellar jam from Phish’s last stand.

Seven Below” 7.13.03 II The Gorge

One of the first psychedelic masterpieces of the summer and  legitimate tour highlight when all was said and done.

7.25.03 - Charlotte, NC (Alex)

Harry Hood” 7.25.03 II Charlotte, NC

A ground-breaking jam for “Harry Hood” illustrating the band’s exploratory spirit that underlines these years. A piece that once you hear you will never forget.

  1. HarryHood Says:

My favorite part of the video is when Trey grabs the mic, holds it up, looks at the camera, says nothing, and hands the mic back to Mike

  2. SillyWilly Says:

    Good evening everyone!

I haven’t checked in all day, and I’m trying to get a paper done because Im driving to Cleveland this weekend. Just wanted to wish a general good vibe to everyone!

    My favorite Phish interview quote:

    Interviewer asks a stupid question.

Trey: “In the words of Jean-Paul Sartre in Being and Nothingness ……”No.””

    @Lycan,
been on a big CF kick today. Covering “It was a good day” is fucking brilliant. I bet youre watching Lost…My roommate has it on, but I’m spinning CF instead because Im not caught up with my Lost.

  3. BrandonKayda Says:

“Mike is losing roles, and Fish is gaining rolls”

    Hilarious

  4. HarryHood Says:

Catching up on this afternoon’s posts:

Robear ~ Good to hear my friend.

KWL ~ No need to apologize. That pizza sucked. Who would have thought that it would be so hard to find a decent slice in NYC after 11pm? I thought it was the city that never sleeps! I can get a better slice in downtown Plattsburgh at 3am on a Tuesday…..

  5. neemor Says:

    Technology is great.
Trey talking about how jams become…
Talks about the Bowie from the night before, how they played a jam before the intro to Bowie.
    Sync up 6.18.94 Bowie.
    Classic.

  6. garretc Says:

@Type III, if you’re still around, that ambient music grid thing you linked to earlier is a godsend! I used it to create the track that is currently accompanying my writing of a paper, and I’ve never felt so focused in my life!

  7. SillyWilly Says:

    @garretc

this whole writing papers thing needs to stop.

    im writing one, too.

  8. BrandonKayda Says:

    Are my posts showing up?

  9. voopa Says:

    That ’94 interview is great!

  10. whole tour! Says:

    i’m also writing a paper.
    It effing blows!
    half way done.

  11. garretc Says:

Agreed Silly, agreed. Now, if this wasn’t the last possible day I had to write said paper, I would go ahead and stop, but unfortunately my window for procrastination has more or less shut…

Perhaps if I tell my professors that SillyWilly also feels writing papers should stop they’ll listen?

Also, I’d recommend the ambient music grid thing as accompaniment to your paper writing as well! I’ve been listening to the same loop for the last hour and a half and it’s the most focused I’ve ever been while writing a paper in my life… If you missed the link earlier it’s here:

    http://lab.andre-michelle.com/tonematrix

Worth a look another time if you aren’t feeling it for the paper writing process…

  12. HarryHood Says:

Sloooow night on the ‘ol blackbored….. Yaaaawwwwnnnnn……..

  13. SillyWilly Says:

The ambient music is exactly what I need! because my roommate is watching Lost and our living room doubles as our office.

Thanks garretc and I think from what you wrote earlier thanks TypeIII.

what kind of paper are you writing?

if you need to get back to writing you don’t have to answer…i just need a break.

  14. ChefBradford Says:

I’m pretty sure the slow night is a result of Lost

that tonematrix thing is pretty cool

sent the link to some friends

  15. garretc Says:

Oh, it’s alright, I’m on a bit of a break myself!

I’m writing a paper on mid-nineteenth century philosophy regarding the masses for my history of modern thought class. Mostly focusing on specific assigned readings from Mill, Marx, and Dickens… Quite thrilling, I must say…

    And yourself?

  16. halcyon Says:

Just finished the paper I wrote. On to the Future of Food for my viewing pleasure.

  17. garretc Says:

I guess it’s “write a paper night” on the blackboard! Party time!

  18. whole tour! Says:

that tone matrix is some cool effing shite!

  19. SillyWilly Says:

    @garretc

I actually love that kind of stuff…

I like some of the more modern Marxist thinkers like Horkheimer and Adorno.

I’m writing a brief for my Legal Writing class. It kinda sucks because the premises are all made up and there’s really no room for creativity in legal writing. you just have to research old cases and summarize them basically.

  20. She Divides Says:

Good luck with all the papers! I just finished watching the caps win their 11th straight game!

I guess we are the non-lost people.

@whole tour-five guys is awesome. Love it!

  21. SillyWilly Says:

I texted my girl friend: babe, do you like lost?

her response: lets go listen to live music instead.

a proud moment in our relationship.

  22. SillyWilly Says:

not that i don’t like lost….i just am trying to catch up on the episodes before i watch the one on now.

  23. joe Says:

hey she divides. everyone beats the bruins these days. don’t get too proud.

  24. neemor Says:

    Worst….night crew…….ever.

  25. neemor Says:

So I was picked this stuff out of my toenails….
