A Post-Hiatus Playlist

7.10.03 (A.Markarian)

Out of the many great Phish jams during the post-hiatus era, here are a couple of top-shelf selections.

A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing” 6.19.04 II SPAC

Evoking the feel of Pink Floyd’s psy-rock, this piece of improv is among my favorite regardless of era. A truly masterful excursion, this song needs to find itself back into rotation come summer.

Scents and Subtle Sounds” 7.30.03 I Camden

Arguably the most impressive version ever played – it would certainly get my vote – this “Scents” highlighted the first set in one of the band’s most impressive post-hiatus’ outing.

Mr. Completely > Low Rider” 7.15.03 II West Valley, Utah

In one of ’03s out-of-the-way and undersold shows, Phish debuted Trey’s longtime TAB classic, “Mr. Completely,” and with it came a furious half-hour of non-stop groove.

Twist” 6.20.04 II SPAC

Another interstellar jam from Phish’s last stand.

Seven Below” 7.13.03 II The Gorge

One of the first psychedelic masterpieces of the summer and  legitimate tour highlight when all was said and done.

7.25.03 - Charlotte, NC (Alex)

Harry Hood” 7.25.03 II Charlotte, NC

A ground-breaking jam for “Harry Hood” illustrating the band’s exploratory spirit that underlines these years. A piece that once you hear you will never forget.

Cub- I second that Gorge 2001 from ’98. My first time at that venue. Unreal- still my favorite place ever to see a show.

  2. Mr. Completely Says:

Miner: that moderation trap was happening to “Type III Jamming” recently…yesterday? just fyi

  3. Leo Weaver Says:

    thx @garret…I’ll check that out

  4. Mr. Palmer Says:

Just got done watching Lost- don’t worry- i say nothing until the board deems it allowable. great stuff as usual.

  5. Gratefulcub Says:

Jack Bauer – a weekly assault on civil liberties

  6. stitchstash Says:

    Chula Vista! Thanks Mr. Miner!

  7. joe Says:

the hood is my favorite of the songs posted today. thanks

  8. Leo Weaver Says:

Robear been around today? How’s his son’s procedure go?

@joe…it melted my face and gave me multiple “what song is this” moments…made the TERRIBLE traffic getting in totally worth it (well, phish always does make the traffic worth it, but you know what I mean).

  9. Gratefulcub Says:

Robear checked in with positive news. that’s kharma at work

  10. Gratefulcub Says:

Leo, you leaning towards DC this summer?

  11. Leo Weaver Says:

Good to hear…thanks for the update cub. Yeah, heavy lean. I’m already clearing the calendar. Hope to meet up with Beep at whatever campground he’s doing. I’ll probably ride up with Marshall. Good times ahead!

  12. Leo Weaver Says:

I passed up a trip in 99 and again in 03…can’t let myself do that again.

  13. Leo Weaver Says:

    you gonna be there cub?

  14. Marshall Says:

    DEER CREEK!!

  15. Marshall Says:

I think my posts are getting hung now too.

  16. Gratefulcub Says:

Good to hear. I was hoping to see you and Mitch, and meet Beep. Even though we have complained repeatedly about the commercialization of DC, it is still a great venue for a show.

One night this year just didn’t seem right. 2010’s 2 night stand will return the universe to it’s proper order.

    Nighty Night all.

  17. Marshall Says:

    DEER CREEK!!!!!

  18. Marshall Says:

    ^ what cub said.

  19. Gratefulcub Says:

The chances of me being at the Creek are good, but not 100%. I can’t even pretend that I can make definitive plans that far in advance, on a weekday, away from the family. But, unless something unforeseen occurs, DC will be my Phish this summer.

  20. Marshall Says:

The way to do DC right is to get there the evening before so the camp is set up. Traffic in Indy sucked day of show last year.

  21. Gratefulcub Says:

And now I can add Marshall to that list of peeps to see a DC show with. i assume DC would be a big meetup.

Maybe I can introduce my large crew to the large blackboard crew. LLFA. Just thinking about the dynamic of having all my people there, and there being an equal sized blackboard crowd…… Heaven on earth i tell ya.

  22. Marshall Says:

    Worlds collide (a Costanza problem)

  23. Leo Weaver Says:

that’s what I was thinking @marshall, re: getting there early

@cub…hope to see you there, would be fun for sure

  24. Leo Weaver Says:

nite fellas…maybe I can visit a little more tomorrow

  25. Lycanthropist Says:

    wow
