Initial Thoughts: I haven’t heard the show yet, but am excited to see the debut of “Liquid Time!” After the eerie excursion that stemmed from the song during Festival 8’s soundcheck, everyone has been waiting too see where it would pop up. Using his solo tour to work the song out, one would expect to see the Party Time track in Phish setlists this summer. Impossible to know what happened without hearing the show, it’s great to see “Goodbye Head” back on Trey’s plate after an absence from his Classic TAB tour in 2008. Another elaborate composition > ethereal jam that would translate beautifully to Phish, one must wonder if this is why Trey has brought it back to life. After only playing “Valentine” twice on his pre-Phish tour, one imagined he was stashing it away for his other band. After never making an appearance with Phish in 2009, I wonder if he has also brought it back for pre-summer polishing? A host of debuts only means more potential Phish songs! I’ll get these shows up asap, but that’s all I’ll say without hearing things first.

    Birdwatcher is awesome.

  2. albert walker Says:

    I know its been said

but Liquid time has a serious Dire Straits feel to it at times

kind of takes a while to get going at first

    love the second jam

Phish will blow this up in 2010

    these shows should be fun
    Trey sounds great so far

  3. HarryHood Says:

    Ice and Snow sounds great.

  4. HarryHood Says:

    ^ Sorry mid-westerners. The song I mean

  5. HarryHood Says:

Wow…. Got into a little Neemsbane this evening and this Ice and Snow is melting my brain. Leo, I know your with me…… What do you think?

  6. fat bastard Says:

“tuesday” really sounds like the song, “one day, maybe next week, I’m gonna get you get you get you.” seriously

  7. HarryHood Says:

Where did everyone go? Guys……. It’s dark in here and I hear voices……

  8. albert walker Says:

    TAB Let me Lie

I like this crazy ass song for some reason

  9. gus Says:

i am definitely in the let-me-lie-should-only-be-a-TAB-song boat

  10. garretc Says:

Yeah, aw, I’m just finishing that one up, I dug it. I’m usually a fan of Let Me Lie, so I’m not too surprised, but I really dug the harmonized vocals too!

  11. gus Says:

i mean, it’s not a bad song by any means, i just personally don’t like to hear it at shows. i caught the debut of it at great woods, and liked it well enough, but i had never really heard it before and wasn’t paying too much attention at the time.

  12. garretc Says:

Yeah, I feel like my views on a lot of songs differ from the norm here on the blackboard cause so many of you are coming at them from the perspective of seeing them at shows all the time, whereas I’m just listening to recordings. While I may really dig Let Me Lie coming on while I’m on my way to class or what not, I can kinda understand people at a show not being all that stoked about it…

  13. gus Says:

have you not been to any shows yet?

  14. BTB Says:

Haven’t listened to TAB from last night, however, I got to add ‘2010’ to my music archive!! Woot!! The year of the jam (fingers crossed)

Weird how I have a complete folder of music labeled by years and not bands/albums. Love it.

  15. Gavinsdad Says:

@neemor: confirming I have your TAB ticket for NYC.

AW/selector – thanks for all the recs. Love all 70s JA sounds, singers and players of instruments. Lone ranger! I-Roy too! Purpleman!

Good to see prince nanny in the house. If jahvolunteer rears his head it’s all our JA peoples.

Marcoesq – holler at me. Getting a bite preshow with a friend on Thurs. Join us if you can.

  16. Gavinsdad Says:

    Errrr….prince nabby that is

  17. garretc Says:

@gus, I made it out to Festival 8, but unfortunately that’s been it, as my Phish obsession began between summer tour and F8, and I’m on the west coast, so I couldn’t hit fall tour or NYE… So the vast vast vast majority of Phish I’ve heard has listening to show recordings…

  18. BTB Says:

Garretc – truth. there’s a time and a place for every tune. SET II Let me Lie’s are a downer in person. Most people just have preferences to what ‘slow tunes’ they want played. I think the LML is ok, I’m glad Trey wrote it, but would hope for something else most of the time.

Cinci SET II Rock n Roll > Ghost > If I Could — worked really well as a slow tune in that spot (listened to that segment multiple times). Had me laughing at the show though…turned around all smiling and had a great laugh with a dooder on the floor over the Ghost>If I Could epicness.

  19. gus Says:

@garret – you’re lucky you were at 8, i wish i could have been. but, being all the way on the east coast and just starting high school, my parents would NOT let me. believe me, i pleaded. my phish obsession started in 6th grade. but luckily i got to see em a few times this summer, and once on fall tour (portland). i hope for many more shows for you, and me as well. and brandon kayda. he needs to see them.

  20. Gavinsdad Says:

@sumo/AW – you both should pick up “pink” by Boris if you haven’t yet. More JP heaviness.

From the strain marketing dept: met new friend in the city last nite. Wouldn’t you know I got myself some “headband”? Trust me…shit is gnar…but I doubt it’s the genuine article. Nowhere near as ruddy/robust as what I’ve seen online.

  21. garretc Says:

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that if I was still in high school my parents wouldn’t have let me hit F8, so good thing Phish planned it for a month after I became a college student! I’m jealous about last summer tour… I assume you’ll be seeing a few shows this summer too?

  22. Gavinsdad Says:

Gus – I told BK that if he and I were at the same show this summer I’d sponsor his ticket. I hope to meet you or Garrett along the way too. You guys bring alot of positivity to this board. I need that at my age.

  23. garretc Says:

Oh yeah, GD, you reminded me of something I forgot to mention last time the neemsbane strain convo came up! As I said, I normally could care less about what kind of weed I’m getting, but! (There’s always an exception, isn’t there?)

    Jack Herera

If you find it, get it, even if it costs more. Smoked a J of that the second time I ever toked, and I’m pretty sure I’ll never be that high again in my life! That bud just looks like if you blew on it you’d get clouds of thc floating off… Haha

    Ok, end neemsbane pimping…

  24. Leo Weaver Says:

@HH…hey man, ‘baned for sure…’bout time for a refill in fact. Kinda been zoned into last night’s show for the last hour or so. On Mr. C now.

The new girl on the tbone has been pretty damn impressive, esp considering she’s only like 18. Just got a text from my buddy at tonight’s show…he’s raving about it.

  25. Gavinsdad Says:

And to jump in mega late:

first album: ELO “out of the blue”. My moms friend gave it to me in 2nd grade. Followed that up with KISS “love gun”.

First concert: cheap trick with Michael schenker group to open. Oakland civ 1980 when I was in 6th grade. Thanks Dad. Look what you started!!
