Weekend Nuggets: Colorado ’90 SBDs

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Boulder Theatre (F.Drebin)

After Phish took their first major road trip to Colorado in 1988, they returned early and often. These shows wrapped up a five-show Halloween run through the  Rocky Mountain State, two years later in 1990. Some interesting info on these from from Phish.net:

“Sbd/Aud mixes: The following shows were recorded to DAT from a separate recording board at the shows. They are some of the highest quality Phish tapes in existence: 4/22/90, 10/30/90, 10/31/90, 11/2/90, 11/3/90, 11/4/90, 3/13/91, 3/15/91, 3/16/91, 3/17/91, 3/22/91, 3/23/91, 4/5/92.

Except for the 4/5/92 tape, they have all been fairly widely circulated. They were done on a large recording console (not EQ) and mixed completely separately from the board mix, rumoredly done in a truck outside the venue. The engineer used 2 audience mics to mix in crowd/hall ambience (on most of them).”

Enjoy these relics over a winter weekend!

(FYI: Torrents won’t be available this weekend, and further TAB shows won’t be posted until early next week. Cheers.)

Lots of great TAB reader reviews have been pouring in. Check em out!

  1. whole tour! Says:

thank god Billy joel and elton john won’t be touring this summer.

Jacksonville radio is really really bad and they play non stop elton john and billy joel songs all day and all night. It is terrible. Not that there is anything wrong w/ billy joel and elton john….i’m just sick of hearing “pianoman” and “she’s always a lady to me” and “rocketman” and “benny and the jets” like 100 times a day at the same exact times. Really annoying and i actually turn the radio off when ever the pianomen come on.

  2. wilson8or Says:

Amen Whole Tour. I can’t stand them either. I recognize their incredible song writing/piano skills, but they are vastly overplayed in just about all markets.

  3. whole tour! Says:

everyday i ride the shuttle bus @ school…the exact elton john and billy joel songs ALWAYS are playing…drives me f-ing nuts.

  4. KWL Says:

    mornin’ y’all

    very cool backpack man

what neemor said re: el dude–thanks for all the source info/updates!

  5. wilson8or Says:

Oh, and thanks for getting Benny stuck in my head…

  6. whole tour! Says:

    LOL!

i’m sorry about the benny and the jets…
it’s actually stuck in my head now too.
    B…B…B…benny and the jets.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  7. BigNasty Says:

GD – nope, I’m not that guy.

Re: “..this is going to blow the f up” It did! In 1993 it was like “where did all these people come from?” It felt like I was at private party up to that point and suddently the word got out and the private party turned into Mardis Gras. Sharing in the groove…all good.

Headed to Minneapolis in 10 minutes – State theater, home of some early Phish!
    Keeping set list expectations low.
Hoping Trey throws a curve ball tonight.

  8. wilson8or Says:

    BEnay BEnay

  9. ohhphee Says:

@el Dude, I second that sentiment from neemor. Your dedication really shows and that of many others who post here, providing some of the best music- or links to music – anyone could ask for, and at the highest of quality, usually.

As to Phish at Wrigley – Dream come True! Last year at Toy park was close, but this would be almost literally in my back yard. Not as close as AW, but still just a hop, skip, and a jump from my crib.

    Red Line gonna be ROCKIN’!

  10. BigNasty Says:

    *Mardi…

    Later all

  11. wilson8or Says:

Toy Park was surprisingly easy to get to from the City, but the show left something to be desired! I can’t even fathom the Red line full of wooks! It’d be a sight to behold/cover your nose and mouth to!

  12. Marshall Says:

60 degrees – Drinking coffee in Falls Park (google that plus Greenville SC to see the beauty I’m looking at) and enjoying Bag>Ghost from UIC Nov ’98 (my last show before ’09). Feels great to be alive.

  13. wilson8or Says:

I must take advantage of the day. Take care everyone. As I hear more about our coveted ball park and the ensuing party that will take place on the rooftops, I’ll let you all know.

  14. marcoesq Says:

    last night looks hot!

  15. whole tour! Says:

    later wilson8or!

may your day be free from billy joel or elton john songs! 🙂

  16. Mitch Says:

So my girl left town for the weekend and that means one thing. Time to kick it w00k down in my “bachelor pad.” If any of you fools in the NYC area wanna kick it. Hit me up in my email. gorgemango at gmail dot com.

  17. neemor Says:

    Mrs. Mitch on the prowl.
    Look out world.

  18. ohhphee Says:

    @Wilson8or,

Yeah, it would be a sight, indeed!

I think I would blow a gasket if this rumor was confirmed. I don’t even know where to get a replacement gasket. Probably cost alot. Be worth it.

  19. EL Duderino Says:

Hey I do it ‘cuz I love it first off…

Secondly, I wouldn’t want to waste the bandwith or the discs on bad torrents nor should you guys…

  20. marcoesq Says:

Off to college park to watch my Terps beat up on Georgia Tech!

Next stop, Indy for the Final Four in April! Go Terps

  21. neemor Says:

    Dude abides

  22. Marshall Says:

And how do they follow up that 35 minute Bag>Ghost? With none other than Reba, eh. Bag it!

  23. jay Says:

I remember these CO shows as some of the first high quality tapes I managed to snag from a kind stranger on rec.music.dead for P&H. It was listening to these shows that really cemented my love for this band. It was here that I made the progression away from The Dead and toward Phish as my go to concert experience. It was then that I first started to travel to see them. To see several shows in a row. To eat, breathe, live Phish.

  24. Mr. Completely Says:

well GD if you do check back – great post btw – I don’t have time to go back and read last night’s posts (too bad, sounds interesting) so I’ll say that it sounds like you have a good perspective on the parenting at shows thing. My $0.02:

    – outdoor shows only, mostly due to smoke and volume
    – good earplugs are an absolute must and your kid has to be old enough to leave them in, and big enough physically for them to fit well in the ears.
    – bring lots of things to do: bubbles, whatever is safe to bring, easy to carry, OK to lose…uno cards?
    – bring one of those pop-up tiny play-tent thingies to be a “refuge” and safe crash space.
    – bring a whole lot of glow necklaces and don’t throw them. Use them to outline the popup tent with glow. I saw this trick at the Gorge and it’s genius. IT makes the tent totally safe from crashing wooks.

And overall, basically be prepared for a totally different (but amazingly cool, in a parent-y way) experience. Hypervigilance, not absorption, will be your key word.

I couldn’t do it every show, but the Gorge was a peak lifetime experience for me, and for my son as well. It literally changed his life. He’s much more confident now: nothing much seems overwhelming anymore, after “Run Like an Antelope” with CK5 in full effect and 30,000 freaks all around.

    Do it!

  25. marcoesq Says:

That UIC Bag>Ghost is some of the best shit I’ve ever heard. Been one of my go-to jams for a while now…good ol’ ’98 darkness
