Jam of the Day:

Mike’s > Horse > Silent” 10.29.96 II

This nugget of darkness finds Phish in Tallahassee, amidst their last set before Halloween ’96. Playing with Karl Perazzo, warming up for Remain In Light, the band sat into a thick “Houses In Motion” groove during “Mike’s” second jam.

    you’re right…how about tim crouch

  2. BTB Says:

Also, the MGMT music video from their last album (the hit song) – is a freaking sweet piece of art. Eye candy…

  3. Kenny Powers Says:

My older bro tried to get me into Decemberists, and although i dug the music i couldn’t get past the singer’s vocal style…hard to explain.

Silly – I would live in an Irish pub if i could. My wife and i were watching a Food Network show last night on Ireland and their potato fetish, as well as whiskey distilling…yes please.

these days, you can use any Browns QB and that joke works. I didn’t realize signing the backup from Seattle was a good reason to let go of both of your underachieving QBs, but there it is.

  5. marcoesq Says:

No big deal but if you click on the link to d/l the JOTD Mike’s, it actually downloads a Bowie from 10/12/94

  6. BTB Says:

I’m probably way to late on this, but this video is sick

  7. marcoesq Says:

Well, TIII, now that they have Holmgren at the helm they are sure to go out and sign all of the seneca wallace’s they wants

    derek anderson; buh bye

    brady quinn; buh bye

    Helllllooo seneca…wtf

  8. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

marco, I read that as Tim Couch so I hope there isn’t some person named Tim Crouch who you were actually referencing.

    ::performs quick google search::

well, I guess unless you were referring to a British playwright/performer, I’m in the clear.

  9. BTB Says:

nevermind my link, I can’t find the ‘trip’ video that i saw last night. The cartoon art video

  10. BTB Says:

    Found it —

yeah, there’s so much about Ireland that would make me happy. Stout, Irish whiskey (which I believe to be the smoothest in the world), the gift of gab, the literary history of that nation…

KP, do you like Irish music?

  12. jdub Says:

The World Cup is a bit depressing as a US fan, does our squad have a chance this year? Will they ever have a chance?

Willowed is in mourning, tough loss for the boy.

I like jazz on rainy days, something soothing, like kind of blue.

  13. neemor Says:

I combat grey days with summer PH.

Alice I thought was great, and yes, it was a little creepy. I caught the 4:20 showing in CT.
The Disney animated movie is one of my all-time faves, so it was going to take a lot for me to love it, but I did.

The Mad Hatter and Brier Rabbit were nutty, for sure and I loved the Cheshire Cat. The Red Queen was crazy as expected and I found some laughs where I didn’t expect them, from dialogue and things.
    The caterpillar is awesome, too.
3D is the wave of the future and as these productions get better, having glasses on throughout the movie doesn’t impede on the journey as it had in the past (with Christmas Carol).

My favorite character from the animated classic was the ‘momraths’, which were tiny, clothes-pin like characters who a one point formed an arrow to help Alice out of the woods.
While they were not in this movie, at one point, Johnny Depp’s character (The Mad Hatter) mentions them in his internal grumblings, which actually made the movie for me.
The director took care to mix both ‘Through the Looking Glass’ and the Disney animated classic and came out with what it should have been, a psychedelic masterpiece and Burton was the perfect choice to tell the tale.

My twelve-year-old daughter loved it (which speaks volumes-as she’s quite the little movie buff and is extremely hard to please) and I found it both enjoyable and pleasantly odd, which left me wanting more…

81 out of 88 smiley faces means see this one in the theaters.

Alas, though, like I said, no PH3D trailer….
    Who knows.

Willowed, sorry about Quinnipiac, tough loss in front of the national audience…
    There’s always next year!

  15. marcoesq Says:

    Haha, TIII

I think I was actually trying to reference the British soccer star, thought his name was eric or tim crouch…oh well

  16. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

well, Eric Crouch would be the Heisman winning QB from Nebraska, so now I’m totally confused! 8)

  17. Little Buddy Says:

@BTB – I caught the ACL clips on Palladia the other night and was totally amazed at how uninspired all of the music was except for the Decemberists. They sure have changed their live act since I saw them like 5 years ago, or so. The DMB cuts that they showed were just horrible. I mean really bad.

Did you say Carter Beauford is the best drummer that you’ve ever seen? I sure hope that you meant to say, except for John Fishman. Because if you saw Phish anytime in the 1990’s, you saw the best rock drumming ever performed by anyone IMO. Carter is like a machine, but he is no octopus like our boy John was, and hopefully will be again.

@Willowed – Wifey and I watched the game and pulled for Quinnipiac. Sorry it didn’t work out. Great crowd though. And you were worried about the crowd… Announcers on ESPN2 frequently commented on the “emotional” crowd.

  18. Kenny Powers Says:

I do really like Irish music but i kind of have to be in the right mood/setting. Otherwise it can get repetitive IMO.

I spent a week there for NYE 2001>2002 and had a blast hearing the locals jam out at pubs…all the pints are the 20oz “imperial” pints (i.e. the REAL pints) and a pint of Guinness was cheaper ($2.50) than a 12oz Budweiser…and they don’t tip there. Ten bucks and you could drink Guiness for hours and sway back and forth to tunes from the Emerald Isle…is it bad that I would totally drink a Guinness right now?

  19. c0wfunk Says:

awesome neemor thanks for that. I am a huge alice fan and am pretty excited about the movie. My wife is a bit squeamish and not a huge burton fan so I may have to go solo. I haven’t tried one of the new 3d movies yet..missed avatar.. glasses of any sort, even some sunglasses, give me a bit of a headache so I’m not sure about it. I do quite enjoy the muppetvision 3d at disneyworld but even that 15 minute thing gets my eyes watering by the end. I guess that is dated now so the new stuff may be better.

I’m headed into that winterland 73 show mentioned above – should be a decent mix of bouncy / spacy for the grey prerainy day.

Something about low pressure systems rolling through these mountains always makes me a bit crazy.

  20. ThePigSong Says:

For quality (IMO) fictional Irish history check out Trinity by Leon Uris

    the best way
    to start a day
is with a pint of G, okay?

  22. marcoesq Says:

Ok, only because my ocd wouldn’t let me NOT look it up…it’s Peter Crouch, star of England’s soccer team!

I’ve definitely burned the humor out of that one but anywho…

I thought it would’ve been weird if it was eric crouch from NE

  23. Kenny Powers Says:

PigSong – thanks for the rec

    T3 – agreed

  24. marcoesq Says:

    Guinness: Amazingness

  25. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

yes! Peter Crouch, of course. still not a good comparison for Trey though 😉
