Jam of the Day:

Mike’s > Horse > Silent” 10.29.96 II

This nugget of darkness finds Phish in Tallahassee, amidst their last set before Halloween ’96. Playing with Karl Perazzo, warming up for Remain In Light, the band sat into a thick “Houses In Motion” groove during “Mike’s” second jam.

    Silly

No such thing as a quick pint to an irishman. More like quick couple of pints. 🙂

Road closed to ski mountain, the alt route is 60 miles out of the way. 🙁 fresh powder so light and fluffy it makes me feel like I am at a dance club in LaPaz, Bolivia, again. ADOT working to open road, feeding the kiddos, making lunches, crossing fingers, sending scout patrol to go gather G2 on future operations to open road…

Sad thing is, as the crow flies, it is less than 8 miles away. too bad I gave up Shapeshifting for Lent.

If I am back here today it will be a less than good day.

    cow:
The 3D glasses technology has gotten a lot better, you should be fine.
Used to bother me, too, but now it adds so much to the movie, it’s pretty great.

    Verno:
The videos are so frikkin sweet, I can’t thank you enough.

  3. Kenny Powers Says:

A great non-fictional Irish movie is The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Pretty depressing but very authentic-feeling, with a great lead role from Cillian Murphy, who played Scarecrow in the Batman movies as well as 28 Days Later and Sunshine…

  4. SillyWilly Says:

    @KP

thanks for the movie rec. Have you seen Angela’s Ashes?

You should check out The Chieftains if you haven’t already. They can play the true Irish folk, but they’ve also recorded with the Rolling Stones, Mark Knopfler, Ziggy Marley, Sinead O’Connor, Roger Daltrey, Joni Mitchell, Ry Cooder, Sting, Art Garfunkel…

and more. Really cool stuff for any mood

    @phamily

Now I feel bad for giving you hell for having those amazing conditions

Are you around Tahoe? Evidently it’s pretty epic up there right now

  6. SillyWilly Says:

    @Pham B

    one good pint deserves another.

  7. neemor Says:

KP: How about ‘Far and Away’?

    Or something…

  8. neemor Says:

    “Aw, Angela’s Ashes…what a great book.”
    “Did you even read it?”
    “Of course.”
    “Yeah? What’s it about?”
    “Um….this girl Angela…..and her ashes….”

  9. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

there’s a ton of great Irish lit. out there, but a book that I really enjoyed from the non-fiction realm is “How the Irish Saved Civilization”. It’s mainly about how the Irish monks preserved written works during the Dark Ages and then brought these back to the continent once the barbarian hordes were quieted. Thomas Cahill is the writer.

KP & Silly – any thoughts on Black 47, have free tickets to see them tonight…

  11. SillyWilly Says:

    LLFA neemor

its sad, but funny. kind of like all the irish.

    Opening lines to the book:

    I had a miserable childhood.
Worse than a miserable childhood is a miserable Irish childhood.
Worse, yet, than a miserable Irish childhood is a miserable Irish Catholic childhood.

  12. lastwaltzer Says:

@phamily B, when were you in Boliva?

  13. SillyWilly Says:

I haven’t heard of them mrfergie, but I would go 1: its free and 2: lil irish bands like that usually know how to drink and know how to encourage you to drink.

    @TypeIII

i’ve read parts of that book.
Another thing to keep in mind: Some scholars believe that St. Brendan in the 10th century was actually the first European to visit North America, before the Vikings even.

  14. lastwaltzer Says:

also muppets 3d is the shit.

  15. mrfergie Says:

Silly – I can’t think of a better way to spend a night – I’ll let you know what I think – Neemor Willowed or Jdub, they’re at Toads tonight, feel free to stop by and throw a few back…

  16. verno329 Says:

@neemor which one did you check out last night?

  17. SillyWilly Says:

Jealous, mrfergie, wish I could be there

but I do have Umphrey’s McGee tickets tonight

  18. SillyWilly Says:

You guys got me all fired up about Ireland, so I made myself a big bowl of McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oats…porridge, if you will.

  19. neemor Says:

The second drummer in the JOTD is awesome, btw.

  20. Little Buddy Says:

“How the Irish Saved Civilization” – Yes! This is a really great book. A must read for anyone interested in Ireland’s place in the history of Western Civ.

  21. neemor Says:

I watched most of 7/2 (set II) and the 11/14/95…
    So, so pleased….

  22. sumodie Says:

    3D

Alice was filmed in 2D and later converted to 3D so the effect is not as good as with Avatar, which was designed and filmed for 3D.

Re-learned my lesson last week when I saw Avatar again that I MUCH prefer digital projection theaters over IMAX. Digital clarity/detail is better than size, imo.

Anyone see the 3D DMB flick? Irrespective of like/dislike for DMB, heard that flick was not good. Sure hope Phish 3D has different production company behind it.

  23. mrfergie Says:

For the record – the scots actually created the modern world
    :ducks:

  24. neemor Says:

The flick wasn’t good because it was DMB.
We’re talking about Phish, here, sumo….
    Let’s not get all crazy!

  25. verno329 Says:

@neemor so that 7/2 Ghost was pretty bad ass and the Stashteca is a Holy Grail type of jam
