Weekend Nuggets: Mike’s Songs

Photo: (T.Wetzel)

As Mike wraps up his eight-show mini tour this weekend, let’s turn our attention to the few recordings that have been posted. Along with the tour opener, these are the only shows that have surfaced on line for now. I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to these yet, but reports from the road have been glowing. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Mike’s band, grab these for your weekend enjoyment! If you do get to see a show and would like to write a reader review, send your piece to mrminer@phishthoughts.com.

“Lo And Outside”–this is some hot shit as well, Lycan.

  2. voopa Says:

I’d drive over an hour to see Phish…

..oh wait, I have! Many times…

  3. Lycanthropist Says:

yeah hes gone through the end of the show has a guest guitar player sitting in with us

  4. Foul Domain Says:

My longest drives in 2009 to see Phish…

    Ontario – Pittsburg – 7 hours
    Ontario – Hartford – 9 hours
    Ontario – Syracuse – 5 hours

and the tour closer was a killer…

Kentucky – Virginia – 7 hours, then 7 hours back right after the show because I had to e back in KY for work.

I dont know if this is committment or mild insanity. My wife leans toward the latter.

    Phish is good.

  5. EL Duderino Says:

    @ pageside

Yep, I know about Creek ’00 went to Phil and Dylan night too before the three days of chaos. That’s why I’m inquiring about the video of 7/10 and 7/11/00

  7. EL Duderino Says:

I’ll be lucky to see 3 shows of the south east this year… 🙁

  8. Gratefulcub Says:

    Where in KY FoulD?

  10. Gratefulcub Says:

Worst driving trip ever for me was DC to Alpine in 04. Never do it again. Rush hour in chicago, 10 minutes late for the second set! Plus, havin to get up and on the road early from the Creek after a two night run makes the show more like work than fun. The trip would have been better with 2 nights in DC, instead of 2 DC 2 Alpine.

  11. cal Says:

…Yeah, wow, this is some really engaging liquid guitar interplay at the end of “It’s An Ambush” as well.

Dude, I love your trickling organ work in the transition there and the beginning of “Squash Anyone”, that is gorgeous. If you want to cut right to my core, anything that combines “sinister” and “gorgeous” at the same time will pretty much do it. CF has many of those moments.

My girlfriend, from the other room: “What is this? I like this a lot!”

I really hope you guys can come and play in my neck o’ the woods some time.

Ooo, a Nirvana tease. Now you’re definitely pushing my buttons.

  12. Gratefulcub Says:

Lived many years in Lexington. Louisville now.

  13. Foul_Domain Says:

Cool. I liked it there. I was working at Central Bap Hospital for about 3 weeks. Didnt really go out too much, but I found everybody to be really friendly.

    I dig KY.

  14. Gratefulcub Says:

In my current DeLorean-esque tour through 95, I am in the midst of one of those gorgeous Hoods, 12-5 from UMass.

  15. Foul_Domain Says:

Im a big fan of mid 90’s Hoods. They were meatier back then. I would bet my left nut that in 2010, Hood will open up a bit more.

  16. Gratefulcub Says:

I make a ton of fun of KY on here at times. I talk about hillbillies, bigots, homophobes, redneck English, and Trans Ams on bricks in front of trailers. But, the dirty little secret is, I could leave if I wanted to. I stay because I love it, it’s home.

  17. Marshall Says:

Have driven 8 hours to Deer Creek three times.

Alpine Valley back to home was about 11 hours (split over two days).

Drive to Miami was 12 hours (split over two days).

10 hours to Hampton (split over two days).

Flights to LA plus drive to Indio was about 12 hours in one day.

All of the above are why I desperately need some local Phish.

  18. Foul_Domain Says:

    I hear you Marshall.

Tour opener will be 2 nights in Toronto, then to Ottawa, then Montreal for another deuce…

yeah right. I think I had that dream once though

  19. EL Duderino Says:

It used to be where you could pick and choose what shows you wanted, now it’s “I hope I get a third of what I ordered”.

Bigger stretches of tours are done for this one.

Destinations are more realistic for me at this age, and as I get older it is more about the destinations/cities, venues that I have not been too yet.

Alpine and Creek were my backyard sorta speak.

  20. Marshall Says:

“Destinations/Venues” that I need to check off my Phishlist:

    Red Rocks
    The Gorge

That will complete what I “need.”

  21. Marshall Says:

Great Midwestern Amphitheaters – check (AV and DC)
Local amphitheater shows – check (Oak Mtn, Lakewood, Walnut Creek)
    Non-phish festival – check (Jazzfest)
Classic indoor theater shows – check (Fox Theater)
Local indoor arena shows – check (The Omni, Charlotte, Knoxville)
    Mothership shows – check (Hampton)
New Years Run shows – check (AAArena)
    Phish Festival – check (Indio)

  22. Marshall Says:

Halloween shows (check) (see above The Omni and Indio)

  23. jdub Says:

All this talk of driving makes me feel spoiled. With NYC and Boston both 2 hrs away, there were 11 shows last year within a 2 1/2 hour drive.

  24. ThePigSong Says:

Driving an hour to hit a show is nothing, but when the show is an hour + from where you stay can be stressfull.
    i.e. Alpine
