Weekend Nuggets: Mike’s Songs

Photo: (T.Wetzel)

As Mike wraps up his eight-show mini tour this weekend, let’s turn our attention to the few recordings that have been posted. Along with the tour opener, these are the only shows that have surfaced on line for now. I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to these yet, but reports from the road have been glowing. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Mike’s band, grab these for your weekend enjoyment! If you do get to see a show and would like to write a reader review, send your piece to mrminer@phishthoughts.com.

Also, everyone here should always check brand new DVD titles on half.com. Amazing deals there.

  2. Marshall Says:

So, Butter – the wedding IS or is NOT in Atlanta?

  3. ChefBradford Says:

I re-read all of Marshall’s (thus far) 2004 reviews a couple of days ago, and enjoyed them immensely.

    Good work, sir

  4. Marshall Says:

@ Gavin’s – Phish3D will be the first film/video of a Phish show that I was in attendance for. Definitely looking forward to it. I was up close for the afternoon show on 10/31 and the boom’s were going over my head a lot (I was wearing a Gilligan-style white hat that will be easy to spot). With that show so recent, I’m guessing the movie is going to make me feel exactly like I did at that moment.

  5. butter Says:

    the wedding is in PDX

missed one of our good friends weddings last year due to Gorge
she went stag to that one

just typing that i feel like we know what will happen at the tour closer on July 4th in A town (throw down)

don’t think its a good move to send her alone to this wedding
the woman getting married was our ordained minister for our wedding

  6. Marshall Says:

Thanks Chef. I’ve been listening to the Deer Creek shows (next up after SPAC which are posted) for about a week now and need to get those review up. Night two of Deer Creek is as good as anything I’ve ever heard from that venue (and that’s saying a lot). Nothing about the DC shows indicates that there was anything wrong at all.

  7. ChefBradford Says:

Watching the IT doc when it premiered on TV, the clip of the Ghost jam transported me 2000 miles and a year or so back in time

I felt the feeling that I hadn’t quite forgotten

  8. Marshall Says:

Hmm … tough call, Butter. Sounds like you need to go to that one. There are always more shows (well, until there eventually aren’t one day – but for now, there’s another show another day).

T’would be nice if there were never any conflicts with Phish shows. Heck, as I was talking earlier about the reason’s I “fell off the wagon” back in 1999 and missed the Atlanta shows, I now remember that one of the reasons was as simple as the girl I was married to then didn’t want to spend a holiday at a show.

  9. ChefBradford Says:

I have (had, some are now missing) a good chunk of (mostly late) summer 04 on CD, but have never listened to much of it. I always assumed they would point, increasingly, to the spectacle that was Coventry.

Once I get a new computer and iPod this summer (I hope), I’ll be torrenting massive amounts of music

Something to look forward to, and I’ll def use your (and Miner’s) 04 reviews as maps, or at least as guidebooks

A friend of mine just posted on facebook that June 16-17 Hartford was confirmed by blockbuster, I think that they own the meadows?

  11. Foul_Domain Says:

That IT Ghost is insane. I wish the whole festi made the DVD

  12. Marshall Says:

There are definitely some sets from 2004 that deserve to get played. SPAC night one is awesome. Deer Creek night two is great. Keyspan has some great moments, especially Chalkdust.

  14. Marshall Says:

@ Foul – yeah, we need an IT: The Complete Festival, Blu-Ray box.

  15. pagesidehighschool Says:

@chef, I had a ton of fun in 04, saw every show, only year I can claim that, but there were definately some highlights. I loved Camden, greatwoods, and alpine, 2nd night. Deer creek was nice too

  16. ChefBradford Says:

I’m still surprised that the Ghost didn’t make the DVD

SPAC 04 I’ve heard a lot about, but not DC. I have the official release of the first Brooklyn show, but have heard nothing of the second. I love a ripping Chalkdust, and really dig the few exploratory ones I’ve come across (Camden 99, IT)

  17. Foul_Domain Says:

That would make me a happy man, Marshall. We know the footage is out there….lets have it, already!

  18. Marshall Says:

I’ve got all those to look forward to PSHS, as I continue my trek through the dark side.

  19. Marshall Says:

@ Chef – the Keyspan Chalkdust is the only one I’ve ever heard that turns left at the road sign.

  20. ChefBradford Says:

I remember hearing the Camden show broadcast on the Bunny while we were wandering around the Coventry grounds on Friday night. YEM, Moma, right?

I’d been hoping to catch a fat Moma, too

  21. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

Are you including the Coventry shows Marshall?

  22. ChefBradford Says:

Marshall- really? Seek ye out the summery, pulsing Camden Chalkdust. Totally worth 15 minutes, and if you’re a Roggae fan, there’s a sweet segue into that number

  23. ChefBradford Says:

great sequence of songs, given the jam in Chalkdust

  24. Marshall Says:

@ BK – I will be spinning Coventry at the end of the run, yes. So far I’m through the Deer Creek shows, in order.

@ Cheff – Are you talking Camden ’04?

  25. ChefBradford Says:

    sorry, Camden 99. Um, 7/10/99 I think
