Weekend Nuggets: Mike’s Songs
DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEKEND:
As Mike wraps up his eight-show mini tour this weekend, let’s turn our attention to the few recordings that have been posted. Along with the tour opener, these are the only shows that have surfaced on line for now. I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to these yet, but reports from the road have been glowing. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Mike’s band, grab these for your weekend enjoyment! If you do get to see a show and would like to write a reader review, send your piece to mrminer@phishthoughts.com.

VIDEOS OF THE WEEKEND:
“Mike’s Song” - 12.4.09 MSG

12 15 95 bowie is the thickness
lycan – just did IT (disc 2) last nite in that baned state you speak of…goodness.
might have to put on disc 2 tho with all the love on here
sufficiently baned already
Speaking of jams entering other songs … at Deer Creek night 2 2004, there’s big DWD jam inside of Walls of the Cave to close out the second set. Real nice.
Camden CD – 13:00 – and its all type II at this point. Very deconstructed.
my prob is if i put on a dvd. i cant check in here with you guys
now that is a problem when you are torn between two addictions
@ mitch – if you do, beware that you’ll enter a semi-lucid state during Waves only to return to Earth during the Pebbles and Marbles jam. It’s happened to me many times.
Just watch the DVD with one eye and the board with the other.
Lycan–I should’ve said about 3:20…there’s a definite guitar riff there from another song, I just cannot place it. It’ll come to me a few months down the road and I’ll probably run into a traffic light or something.
I found that show, my bad; was using the wrong search parameters. That will be next on my list after this 2.26 show…
re: #line, I get zapped back to Rothbury a lot of times when I hear it, particularly at Trey’s solo show in Milwaukee…That whole weekend was amazing, but being there for Trey’s return to performance after such a long and presumably painful break…I know it’s kinda cliche now, but he looked so happy and healthy up there with just his acoustic guitar, and when he played “Alaska” and “#line” it was so obvious that these were going to end up as PHiSH songs, it just tore me right open.
Seems like some of these 3.0 songs (inc. “Stealing Time”, “Light”) are striking a cord with me more than almost any 2.0 material.
Why is it that over the last couple of days, each time I check in here you all are talking about what I just listened to? Wow. Was just listening to IT…
Nice to know there are like minds.
Lycan, just pause it every 3 or 4 minutes, you’ll be fine. Just pick out the slow or shitty parts…of…the…DVD
oh, wait
nevermind
my computer is hooked into my tv… cant have em both going at the same time
Hitting play on Tweezer right now 11:14 pm edt.
cool, I’m hitting it now, Marshall
how did you like the CD?
I haven’t watched Disc 1 from IT more than twice. I could almost toss it, since there are no complete songs on it (at least I don’t think there are).
I dug it, Chef. It is definitely more ’99 compared to the Keyspan version, which, as you wrote, gets all 2.0 ambient and spacey. At this point, the Keyspan stands out as unique to my ears (mainly because I still haven’t spun that much 2.0 material … trying to rectify that).
This Tweezer just went into the drop.
Wickedly wicked and beautifully beautiful at the same time.
wait, what is that I’m hearing around 6:30?
What’s the Use? – yeah. I heard it for sure.
I think that’s the What’s the Use jam. Yep, sure is
or quote, or tease, or what the hell ever
serious millenial loopy groove funk going down
I heart loops. Need more in 2010.
Also, love it when Page sprinkles a few klaxons here and there.
fuckin’ a, Marshall.
I miss the loops. Some people find them annoying. For me, they lay a groundwork for heavy, mind-melting improv
Nice work from Mike in this Tweez
And, just like that, it’s over. Streaming individual songs from Phishows is rather jarring to my ears when it just ends.
I’m heading over to IT Waves now for the next half hour.
