The Madness of March

In honor of the NCAA tournament, this edition of Weekend Nuggets features all facets from the month of March. These two shows provide a snapshot of Phish 365 days apart, on 3.12.92 and 3.12.93. You can hear the development of the band over the year as they prepared to shred apart America during an extensive Summer ’93 tour. at least i’m not in last place anymore.

@neemor: I choose e. or c. and I want pictures with a full report tomorrow.

I think I’ll just relax and jam on 12-31/12-29 from Miami today.

  3. SillyWilly Says:

    @ AW

    if you’re out there.

I’ve been listening to a bunch of the Culture and Max Romeo stuff you’re sharing and I love it.

Haven’t ever gotten very deep into reggae.

Can you point to some beginner’s stuff? I’d like to spend some time diving into reggae this spring. What should I start with?

  4. Robear Says:

    good call@ bK!

  5. SillyWilly Says:

anyone can answer that ^^ if you want

  6. SillyWilly Says:

whenever I think of Miami ’09 I remember all those jokes about Robear scaling the walls of AAArena to AW’s suite and it cracks me up, especially after meeting AW and hearing all his stories about the run.

  7. Lycanthropist Says:

    good morning BB

how goes it with the weekend crew?

Back at work after being off a week.

Had a strange but somehow fun time in Meridian this weekend with CF.

  8. SillyWilly Says:

    Whats up, Lycan!?

got some new shows for us, then?

  9. Robear Says:

yeah, silly. the funniest part, was that it actually happened. my best forbin’s impersonation. After a couple of times, I said fuhget about it. Used the mind tricks to just ride the elevator.

  10. Leo Weaver Says:

Happy Birthday Miner! Enjoy your day!

Morning folks…been enjoying a productive weekend here, but it’s supposed to start raining soon so today may be lazy. Kinda fun watching all those brackets shatter with each game, it’s been a crazy year for the tourney.

Some great stuff posted here over the last 2 days, big props to all you contributors (C, KWL, Silly, jdub, others).

@BK…glad to hear you’ll get your shows at MPP this year! I’ll be there(well, 80% or so right now)…I’m sure we’ll get some kind of meet-up worked out…I think aintnotele and llamalee will be there as well. You should def play the Exile set for your dad if he’s a stones fan…kinda ease him into Phish’s sound with something he’s a little familiar with. The acoustic set would probably also be pretty accessible for him. You’ll get your pavs one way or another!

For all you early tour planners, I’ll post some info about Charlotte a little later today…

  11. Lycanthropist Says:

no unfortunately we werent able to get these shows recorded.

Should have some new stuff after this week.

My birthday show is this friday with TSU, and CF is playing a set on Tuesday.

Your package should be arriving shortly.

I hope you are living it up well!

  12. Robear Says:

silly, grab some older ‘Israel Vibrations’, when they were a three-some.

Also, check out the ‘Abyssinians’ Lots of old testament style roots reggae.

For some really hot, new reggae, check out ‘Clinton Ferron’.

‘Culture’ and ‘M. Romeo’ are real all-stars, so you’re off to a great start.

The Summer ’03 tour has begun.

  14. SillyWilly Says:

That’s great, man. Im sure it’ll be even funnier when I meet you in person.

  15. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

    Whats up Lycan?

How did last night’s show go?

  16. SillyWilly Says:

    sweet! im pumped.

and I can’t wait to rock some CF gear around Madison.

thanks. I’ll grab those. There’s just something about warm weather that makes me want to listen to reggae. And I really like the social aspect of it.

  17. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

Speaking of CF, the 10-24-09 Old Town Manitoba is a beast. Forgot about that one.

  18. joe Says:

the mp3 player did indeed steer me in a good direction.

  19. joe Says:

@Brandon – do you always listen to tunes in your headphones? If not, then I’m sure his dad has heard plenty of Phish 🙂

I just remember when I was about 20 or so, my mom asking me what I was listening when I was doing some work on her garage because she thought it sounded pretty good. It was the Shady Grove jerry disc. She was surprised. She’s from the era before rock and roll and the beatles, maybe not so much age wise as taste wise.

  20. Leo Weaver Says:

@silly…lots of folks on here can point you in the right direction for reggae and dub, keep your eyes open for Selector J. AW has some great ones in his account, I urge you to grab them all (huge props @AW!). Also check these out:

Blackboard Jungle- Lee “Scratch” Perry and The Upsetters
    Dance Hall Style- Horace Andy

    it went ok..

    very strange crowd in meridian

we played this club called the Echo Lounge.
It is a bonafide MS jukejoint.
Wall is lined with classic rock record sleeves.
Bar is lined with drunken old men.
    Lots of rednecks.
    A few college age kids.

Had a lot of adventures surrounding the gigs.

    Night 1:
Set 1: sane > look up, anikas brew, midnight rambler, stock report, circles in the ground, rosa lee, sophia, atrophy road, celia
Set 2: dead flowers, water or sea, camba, ophelia, hes gone, the word > goodbye
