Weekend Nuggets: March Madness

The Madness of March

In honor of the NCAA tournament, this edition of Weekend Nuggets features all facets from the month of March. These two shows provide a snapshot of Phish 365 days apart, on 3.12.92 and 3.12.93. You can hear the development of the band over the year as they prepared to shred apart America during an extensive Summer ’93 tour. halden. hit that show.

look at the schedule. it’s the ‘skip’ show. don’t skip it.

  2. Leo Weaver Says:

@halden…what robear said! how far is the drive for you?

  3. flarrdogg Says:

Purple Humpback- That whole midwestern run in Summer ’99 before they headed to Japan is solid. Star Lake thru Deer Creek all contain some legit gems IMO. I recently re-listened to most of summer ’99 and these were some of my favorites- aside from 4th of July. In particular that Polaris 7-23 show.

  4. kayatosh Says:

do it halden. dooh it (ben stiller voice). everyone try to catch at least one show this summer. phish is worth the effort. like a properly aged wine, phish is ready to delight.

  5. kayatosh Says:

whihc reminds me. . . what’s the best way to secure camden pavs and not get jacked on the price — wait till the day of?

  6. Halden Says:

    @Leo it’s about 4.5 hours

  8. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

    @flarr i totally agree. i love summer 99 so much… all of 99 really.
… i dont have the 7/23 polaris show though but ill check it out

  9. Leo Weaver Says:

    4.5 hours? definitely do it!

  10. garretc Says:

    Happy birthday Miner!

  11. Robear Says:

@halden. i drive 2 hours just to grocery shop. 4.5 to see a phish show is a walk in a park.

here’s some perspective. I live in California. We’re getting three shows this year. It’s a 7.5 hour drive for me to get to the Greek.

  12. stitchstash Says:

Happy Birthday Mr. Miner! I hope you have a special day!

  13. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

I just downloaded the Charlie Miller remaster of 4/27/711 El Dude linked to yesterday. Typically when I get flacs I convert to mp3 via Trader’s Little Helper and then play it in itunes. I don’t think itunes plays flacs or wavs so I have to do this unless I start using another program to listen to music, right? I don’t think I’m an audiophile, though I suppose I’ve never actually compared flacs to mp3s since I don’t have a program that plays flacs. Is this seriously diminishing my listening experience? Some people are all about flacs and I wonder if I’m missing something amazing and don’t know it…

  14. Little Buddy Says:

Happy B-Day Mr. Miner! Thanks again for all you do for the Phish community. Should be a great day with some fun games to watch.

    ‘Cuse looked really good.

  15. Mr. Completely Says:

@Ramblin, sure iTunes plays WAVs. There are apps that can play FLAC for you, but you can just go to WAV and roll with that.

  16. KWL Says:

    do it Halden!

did a bunch of 6-7 hour drives last year, no prob.

Robear is right. I got an hour to the grocery store. And my local show is telluride, which is still 5 hours! It’s worth it.

Canandaigua is at the top of my ‘get there if at all possible’ list

  17. Robear Says:

    what operating system, @ Ramblin’?

If you use a Mac, you can download ‘xAct’ for free. It converts FLAC to WAV or AIFF files. Both are ‘lossless’ like the FLAC, both play on iTunes. You can then load the WAV or AIFF file onto an iPod, if you prefer the ‘lossless’.

There are players that play FLAC files. I find them to be less user friendly than iTunes.

  18. Robear Says:

    C, you’ve got mail. And a new plan 😉

  19. voopa Says:

    Happy day Mr. Miner!

  20. kayatosh Says:

my iaudio 7 portable music player plays flacs. go lossless. flacs. are good.

  21. Mr. Completely Says:

if he’s using Traders Little Helper he’s on a PC. Can just convert to WAV instead of MP3…iTunes will totally work

  22. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

Thanks Robear and Mr C! I’m hesitant to try out another (potentially complicated) player, so I think I’m going to try the WAVs in iTunes. (Don’t know why I thought itunes only did mp3s)

  23. stitchstash Says:

@ Halden, your only going to get a one-sided opinion from this group. 4.5 hours to see this band isn’t much for most of us. You should go, I can almost guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

  24. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

I’ve never heard this Dead/Beach Boys collaboration before. I’m psyched to hear it, but can’t skip Hard to Handle in the first set

  25. Mr. Completely Says:

I typically go FLAC > WAV > burn CDs in iTunes > convert WAV to MP3 and chuck em on the big HD to have em available for the iPod

if your computer is connected to your stereo, just keep the WAVs and start buying big HDs 😮
