Never, ever, ever, ever skip a 1971 Hard to Handle. Or Cumberland. Just don’t do it.

There are a couple from the Fillmore East run that rival 8/6/71 which is really seriously saying something.

  2. KWL Says:

    @mitch thanks for that link!

    Never Skip the “Skip Show”

these are hard won words of wisdom Halden.

i basically do the same thing as MrC: burn wavs to CD, convert to mp3 for itunes/ipod.

Eventually I’m going all digital, hooking up my computer to speakers & playing flacs. Gonna need to find a portable player that plays flacs also, thanks for the tip there on the iaudio kaya

  6. KWL Says:

and when i have choices, like ph 2009, i burn AUD sources to CD & do SBDs on the ipod. I’m an AUD guy, but SBDs sound better through the car speakers with ipod. Living in the future is great, as C would say.

  7. JP Says:

please livePhish – release more 99!!

  8. Mitch Says:

36 dvd’s burned. 26 dvds to go. that whole small giveaway last week turned out to be not so small. they should be in the mail tomorrow.

  9. Mr. Completely Says:

Aud + mp3 + headphones = bunk IMO, 95% of the time at least

sbds hold up to compression much better

^ used to do this for EVERYTHING…then after years, finally sold out to the 320 mp3 for ease…Still have all my DAT masters from the late 90s, but right now, I am running a bunch of high end components through a Sony receiver I got senior year of high school (’93) and a set of bookshelf Boston Acoustic speakers. I think once I upgrade my setup, I’ll CDify/FLACify or something.

  11. Mr.Miner Says:

@ all. thanks for the birthday wishes. Bane, B Ball, and sunshine….its a good day 🙂

  12. RamblinOnMyMind Says:

    The Birthday Bane!

  13. Robear Says:

thx. @ flarr! time for something,

    don’t think it’s a meatstick 🙂

  14. Mr. Completely Says:

@Robear: not that there’s anything wrong with it.

@Miner: srsly, dude, you look incredible for 50. How do you do it? You don’t look a day over 48.

  15. flarrdogg Says:

Robear- In all seriousness, you’re 100% right on. That song did bring many a raging second set to a screeching halt in summer/fall ’99- with some residual negative meatsticking effects into 2000. Having said that, 7-4-99 Meatstick Reprise (Meatprise?) is pretty sweet.

  16. Mr. Completely Says:

I think that was the joke though, a self conscious rock cliche mockery

they were so into these giant super wacked out rock jams…big, throbbing explosions with Trey waving his huge…um…guitar around…

then they whip out the meatstick

pretty funny in the abstract, but I agree it’s a momentum killer

however phish shows are often filled with lurching momentum killers for me

  17. Robear Says:

flarr, two sets slayed in person, by the ‘meatstick’ for me.

    the gorge, ’99

    deer creek, 7/12/00

oh yeah, sometime at shoreline, too I think. Probably walked to the booth during it.

  18. JP Says:

is the general feeling solidifiying that there will be no other west coast 2010 action other than the greek? any new rumors on indio or fall?

  19. JP Says:

agree with mr C that there are many potential momentum killers out there… but def the meatstick seems to whack whatever flow may be happening when it appears. def a 99 downside in terms of how often they whipped it out… but i’ll take that 7.23.99 set 2 anyday

  20. Tzara's Ghost Says:

How about Seattle, Portland, No Cal, Indio run in the fall to make up for paucity of summer dates. Disclosure: The information in this theory comes 100% from wishful thinking.

  21. Robear Says:

    I share Tzara’s wishful thinking, @ JP.

    It makes perfect sense.

  22. jdub Says:

Another beautiful spring day. Interesting day in my household. The wife and I had a phish tour discussion that resulted in in a few decisions. I recently learned that a friend who is into Phish as much as me is bringing his 5 year old to Great Woods. A thoughtful convo with the wife and now I am possibly planning on double dating with my 3 1/2 yr old son. Now that it is within the realm of happening I am a bit nervous about it. Is he too young? Can I really prevent him from being exposed to the ugly stuff (he likes balloons, what if wants one)?

Also, my wife who has never baned, except for a brownie that didn’t work, has agreed to eat a brownie at Hartford. As long as I quit cigs within the next week (I’ve quit for almost three years and like the fool that originaly started having them at bars I creeped my way in again). She likes to drink so I figure she should experience Phish with a proper mind set other than alcohol. Maybe she shouldn’t since if it goes badly for her I will own some of that.

Any thoughts on these topics are welcome

  23. Tzara's Ghost Says:

I’m really hoping I can pull off the Greeks, though. Dreaming of a BB meetup with Completely, Robear, butter, flarrdogg, Uncle Eb, and, you never know, maybe Miner himself. Who am I missing? garretc?

  24. cal Says:

Happy birthday, Miner!! Good afternoon, everybody else!

Holy crap, busy week/weekend. Been missing the BB. Might have to read back a bit…Nothing like a Sunday with no pressing obligations I can’t put off until Monday.

  25. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Oh and yes, of course, Happy Birthday. Thank You Mr. Miner.
