Weekend Nuggets: March Madness

The Madness of March

In honor of the NCAA tournament, this edition of Weekend Nuggets features all facets from the month of March. These two shows provide a snapshot of Phish 365 days apart, on 3.12.92 and 3.12.93. You can hear the development of the band over the year as they prepared to shred apart America during an extensive Summer ’93 tour. So you’re saying I have a chance. Kansas losing blows up a lot of brackets. Why are people listening to 4/27/71. It’s weird cause I was just heeling out on 4/28 yesterday.

iPhone turned geeking into healing but it so works

Quick note to those poor souls whom I dumped my worries on last night…

My dog Marley is alive and well and recovering at home with the wife.

Big, big, thanks for the positive vibes. I like to believe they made the difference.

Now my biggest worry is how to get my hands on some relatively inexpensive pavs for Hartford and SPAC.

Life is good, and so is the Phish!

  5. voopa Says:

    Awesome Foul_Domain!

jdub, CMiller upped a new source for that recently…I’m just now getting around to hearing the 24 bit of it, and it is awesome! >Rider currently.

  6. jdub Says:

Foul, glad to hear Marley is doing well. The only dog I’ve ever had was put down after a terrible run in with a car. I remember as a 16 year old having to cathodize him daily after the accident before we put him down. Good vibes will make you feel better if nothing else.

Just heard the reggaefied version from the 11/19/92 Colchester VT (Haiti relief sbd) -amazing to these ears. Goes to show that any song can break boundaries when the boys put their minds to it.

Furthermore, I dl’ed the flac version from livephish and listened to the lossless version on my pod -fantastic sound quality, sick show.

A bit of old news around here, but if you missed out, this show is super hot, old school style of course. Made me forget I was raking leaves!

  8. jdub Says:

GD put out a compilation from the run called Ladies and Gentlemen… about 10 years ago that is in constant rotation.

  9. Foul_Domain Says:

Thats really sad, jdub. Terrible thing to have to do as a 16 yr old.

Pets are a blessing, but can cause so much grief when they go young.

Glad to hear Marley is doing okay Foul!

  11. sumodie Says:

    Lossless on the ipod

Between the 11/19/92 sbd and the 9/11/99 AUD (courtesy MrC a while back), I’m realizing I need to go back and convert my digital library into lossless or the like.

Through my Klipsch earbuds (also mentioned here recently), these shows sound fantastically delicious.

Can’t even imagine how great it’d be to pump FLACs through my home stereo…while I have the technology for that, it’s so not convenient right now.

Never been able to replace Willie. He was a wanderer, would jump the fence of a local breeder and screw all the pure breads. We got such a kick out of it. He’d be gone for a week but would always be back lying in front of the the door when his journeys were done.

  13. Foul_Domain Says:

Jeez – You know youre excited for Phish tour when you spend a half hour compiling a ‘wish’ setlist for the first tour stop youre planning to hit.

I need another hobby to fill the gaps!

….But damn – If my list comes true, y’all better hit up Hartfor 1 – complete with Harpua, Fluffhead, Saw it Again, Timber, and a Walfredo in the 4 song encore.

  14. Foul_Domain Says:

Thanks BK – Your dad getting excited about MPP yet?

If I were you, I wouldnt expose him to a single note of recorded Phish before the show. Let the boys catch him completely off guard and melt his brain in a live setting.

Im jealous. Id love to hit up a show with my pop.

  15. jdub Says:

I think Hartford 1 will be a monster. I’m biased because it will be my first show of summer and it is my hometown show. I feel you Foul, what to do for three months?

  16. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

My dad hasn’t said anything about it since last night, so I’m not completely sure how he feels about it. I really do hope he enjoys the show though, I know I will!

Now the real question is, should we buy MPP Pavs now while they are still avalible or wait to see if the price goes down. I’m thinking that we should pick them up now because pavs are pretty hard to come by for below face after sale.

But we can deal with that later; for now, i’m just happy I finally get to see this band!

  17. jdub Says:

Buy now or later is a tough call BK because you may get stuck with lawn seats in the lottery. You don’t want pops seeing phish from the lawn, it would shock him too much and he and you would miss the essence of live Phish. Follow your gut instinct.

  18. CushionConvector Says:

    @ Gavinsdad: site is legit.

    Happy Birthday Miner!

Indeed, MPP last year at face was difficult.

@ Formally Known As… so awesome you can bring your dad to a show!

    Good weekend All

  19. CushionConvector Says:

Miner, 12.31 II certainly brings the heat!

  20. Mr. Completely Says:

when I give collegiate advice it should be tempered with the caveat that I dropped out of college after 3 weeks to go on dead tour so take it FWIW

I was totally unwilling to work within the system whatsoever. Then I basically got totally lucky and got in at the very ground floor of the web development world in 1994-95 basically because I had used some photoshop. Since then its just been a matter of staying current. So I got a professional career anyway, even after opting out, in a field where I get to wear t-shirts and sandals. Total blind luck.

@Silly, man, I really think you can just see it as a game and perhaps it will just be kind of pathetic and amusing instead of infuriating. It’s sad and dumb and not how it should be, but changing that isn’t your fight.

As for trades – I know plenty of super smart people who have jobs that are “just jobs” in the trades. That’s a totally valid way to go with your life. You can reserve your creativity and/or activism for outside your profession…

  21. Mr. Completely Says:

our buddy who passed away last year blew off Wall Street to go on dead tour and ended up as an artist and weekly magazine art director, one of the happiest people I’ve ever known

I know former lawyers who are chefs and high end trim carpenters…

all the corporate lawyers and litigators I know are miserable

the activist lawyers (mostly environmental) are happy and fulfilled, if overworked and underpaid relative to their corporate counterparts

  22. Mr. Completely Says:

…and yeah beautiful here today as well. spent the whole day outside building the kiddo a play-fort thing. started yesterday afternoon, cutting and drilling lumber…finished prep and started assembly today, got all the structural beams and buttresses and the decking on, just about a half day to go. I fucking love working with tools, building…

  23. halcyon Says:

Just revisted 11/28/2009 again, and they brought IT that night. What a hot show!

  24. oneshowatatime Says:

@Miner – so glad you posted that Hampton Tube video! I think that should be considered for best Phish YouTube clip of 2009. I think I’ve watched it like 65 times. Epic CK in there.
