Weekend Nuggets: New Year’s Run ’94

12.31.94

DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEKEND:

When thinking of New Year’s Run ’94, people generally think of two things – The Providence Bowie on the 29th and Tropical Hot Dog Night on the 31st. While the odd numbered nights may have stolen history’s spotlight, the 28th and 30th are two shows that routinely get glossed over. Philly’s “Mike’s Groove” and, more specifically New York’s “Tweezer,”nights brought some of the most engaging music of the run, while “Reba” and “Stash”provided first set highlights, respectively. Enjoy the weekend, and best of luck with the rest of the ticket chase.

    Morning, all!

garrett, I hear what you’re saying about Chris’s rig being ‘basic’, but it certainly isn’t standard fare…
There’s actually some of the most impressive, technologically advanced and expensive lights currently on the market today in that rig.
Phish actually lease the lights from a lighting company and CK actually gets first crack at all the newest, hippest shit and PH gives him free reign.
He doesn’t really like the big screens in his set-up, he’s all about the total package that comes from full-on gorgeous lights alone, not relying on shining them on a screen like he used to in ’99-’00.

He’s a magician and the more I pay attention, the more awed I am.

My fave new effect is what I cal ‘waving seagrass’ which is actually a million little dots that he throws up and moves at varying speeds to create crazy motion in the crowd….ends up looking like we’re all ants running all over each other or, when slowed down, like waving sea grass….

I’d love to see a more recent interview with him, I haven’t seen one in a while and I’ve become such a big fan of his through the years, going so far as to introduce myself in both Portland and MSG 2 at the board, just watching him work.
He jumps to the music, slams the board in time…
Knowing that whatever we see up there is a second off, knowing that he has to actually be one step ahead of the band at all times always blows my mind.
He’s a genius and I’m glad we got ’em!

Palmer, I hope you make it but if not, I’ll take ’em, you know that….

    Laterz y’all, enjoy the day!

  6. Willowed Says:

I think Guy Forget did and I saw another. I don’t recall who though.

  23. pabalive Says:

Oh the Wilson from 12/30/94, I remember this time well. It was the beginning of that God awful Wilson chant that Trey egged on. The foolish Hood chant was not far behind. Much like his encouragement of glowsticks, I think he regrets all of these developments. I really miss the eerie quality of the band singing the Wilson chant combined with an interesting build up to the song’s first verse.

  24. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

just ‘get lost’ when you go to buy a beer and come back during setbreak

  25. whole tour! Says:

    ^ brilliant!!! 🙂
