I originally thought it was “are” but after the episode where Charlie and his brother lose the diapers gig because of Liam being all hopped up, it was clearer. Season 2 I think.
Great Episode! I think Desmond just realized that it is his destiny to be with Penny no matter what happens. That is why he was at peace. Why do they keep showing and mentioning the McCutheon scotch. They gonna start selling this stuff after the season is over? Subliminal advertising.
Maybe the scotch is a crossover thing. We’ll find out it’s what keeps the “V” alive! llfa
That being said, I agree. Stellar episode. Definitely going to let that one digest a little, then watch it again. Too much for this head to process all at once.
So many crossovers. When desmond first met Jack at the stadium he said something like they will/have meet in another life “brotha”. He meets Penny at the same stadium in the alt timeline. He also has to “push the button” in the MRI if he needs to save himself.
I too wonder why he doesn’t seem more alarmed at Sayid. Maybe he knows what will be will be.
must be tough being a continuity editor for this show. there are so many convergent things to keep track of and an obsessive fanbase looking for symbolism in everything. I love the attention to detail with all of it.
“And I would say its safe to say that Desmond is on the quest to wake up both universes to the other.
The outside influence in the Schrödinger’s cat example”
not to nitpick, but I think what’s going on here is that “they” – the universe or whatever – is going to choose between the two possible futures, and various people are trying to influence which one gets picked for various reasons. Either they want the split-off alt timeline (for instance Eloise, b/c Daniel is alive), or they want the original…
This is why I watch this show! They haven’t blown my mind in some time, but this episode is pure genius and gives me hope for a real non-disappointing conclusion to this work of art. Wow.
I like how they tease with us in each ep. When desmond first went out and it panned through the clouds, I was like Jesus, please don’t be heaven (no pun intended) and then it dropped into his flash sideways. Great stuff. Two scenes, i think, started with closeups of Desmonds’ eye.
It seems that diff people get what they want or stay alive in each timeline. thus the balance of the universe. My wife noticed the balance in whidmore’s office first. Was it balanced or leaning to one side? I will need to rewatch.
Are you sure it isn’t “excuse me while I kiss this guy?”
this should shine a light on the confusion.
Well, I still think that that song will somehow be relevant (I think that now, at least).
Phish should slip in a “You are Everybody” jam in the middle of Time Turns Elastic.. I’m just sayin…
Maybe this is all what’s going on in Charlie’s mind while he’s blacked-out (“O.D.’ing”) in the bathroom on the plane.

Man, this show is layered like a Buddig sandwich. I didn’t know that song was already so popular.
Thanks for clearing that up. Keeps me from reading too much into the wrong lyrics.

well the McCutcheon scotch was very symbolic relating to Desmond and Charles’s relationship
I get the desmond/whidmore relationship but they also showed it at jack’s mother’s house close up
well i think since then, they have used it as one of those things that ties everyone together…
and I find it interesting that it showed up in the ALT reality at Jack’s.

^ Can imagine the physical storylines that they have posted on walls in the writers’ rooms.
I know I would love to see their story chart diagram
Its gotta be insane

phenomenal ep. Equal to Ab Aeterno? I think so.
Can’t wait for a Hurley ep!
I think Desmond is aware of both worlds in both worlds.
He is outside the system.
Not sure what’s up with his reaction to Sayid exactly but I’m pretty sure he’s ahead of the game at this point.
That Eloise has something unique going on in both timelines. She’s a lot more aware than maybe anyone else. Hope they explain that.
This is why I watch this show! They haven’t blown my mind in some time, but this episode is pure genius and gives me hope for a real non-disappointing conclusion to this work of art. Wow.
In the alternaverse, Eloise gets to keep her son alive. this stands opposed to what Desmondwants in reality #1.

I agree Mr. C
that is what makes him special is that he is now aware of the other reality in EACH reality.
It will be him that wakes up the rest of the cast
^ this was made obvious by his quest to find the passenger manifest. Interesting that he can get his limo driver to do this.
