Ten Tunes For Friday

With two months left until Summer Tour, let’s bust out ten jams for a springtime Friday! These selections span the mid to late-’90s, with some real gems in the playlist. Enjoy the music folks, and have a great weekend.

Stash” 3.30.93 I

One of the first profoundly expansive versions of “Stash” helped lay the foundation for the explosive year of 1993.

Funky Bitch” 11.30.97 I

The funkiest bitch in history.

Birds > If I Only Had a Brain > Caspian” 7.8.99 II

A gorgeous piece of improv from Virgina Beach; the band seamlessly slipped right into a Phishy take on The Scarecrow’s “If I Only Had a Brain.”

The Gorge

Split Open and Melt” 8.2.97 I

This fusing of “Split’s” menacing nature and the emerging, slowed-down textures of Summer ’97 put a spectacular cap on Phish’s first set ever played at The Gorge.

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.10.94 II

The first-ever Red Rocks “Tweezer”- a seriously dynamic and intense version strewn with Mind Left Body jam overtones.

Mike’s > Life On Mars? > Weekapaug” 11.15.95 II

"Mike's Song"

This multi-dimensional “Mike’s” from Tampa, Florida in Fall ’95, reminds us of the time when “Mike’s Grooves” were psychedelic events in the Phish universe, sparking fires in arenas across the land. And this “Weekapaug” ain’t too shabby either!

…you don’t get a refund. If you over pray.

  9. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

I saw my first show in 1994 and didn’t get my first Tweezer until Hampton 3/6/09. It can happen when you typically see one-off shows, or doubles at best (which was my life before 2009).

  10. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

shouldn’t we be getting some 4/30 theater information????

  11. Mitch Says:

I like that mikes song photo above with all red lights. I just got to the part in the Phish bio last night where ck5 is talking about setting moods with lights. I instantly thought of red/yellow combo like above and blue/purple/green rebas. Im looking forward to the day we get an all red mike’s again.

  12. Mr.Palmer Says:

Thats a pretty amazing stat @marshall.

  13. punkmug Says:

@Not Tom – Holy mole! That is a long wait. That was a very good Tweezer though. Easily one of my personal highlights from Hampton last year.

Well, (lifts coffee cup) here’s to a few more Tweezers for both of us this year. 🙂

  14. SillyWilly Says:

blue purple green —- ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh bliss.

  18. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

I’ve mentioned this many times, but I really wish CK5 would work with a programmer to develop a plug in visualizer for iTunes that would be based on his lighting techniques.

  19. SillyWilly Says:

that would be the coolest thing ever. I already love the itunes visualizers, but your idea would only make it better.

Looks like BTB fest is growing, huh? I think Lastwaltzer is hopping on board with me, Cal, and Cal’s girl.

Maybe you know this already. I haven’t been on the board a ton lately.

  20. fat bastard Says:

count me in to BTB FEST i plan on bringin some good beer. toyota->BTB

  21. Little Buddy Says:

Glad to see Tiger, Phil and Freddy Couples all had big days yesterday. Could make for an intriguing weekend at Augusta.

An “all red mike’s” would be SWEET!

  22. BTB Says:

FB – bring some beer ‘samples’ – I’ll have a keg of Great Lakes.

Silly – sounds good, the more who can make it the better!

    Fred Couples = En Fuego
