Ten Tunes For Friday

With two months left until Summer Tour, let’s bust out ten jams for a springtime Friday! These selections span the mid to late-’90s, with some real gems in the playlist. Enjoy the music folks, and have a great weekend.

Stash” 3.30.93 I

One of the first profoundly expansive versions of “Stash” helped lay the foundation for the explosive year of 1993.

Funky Bitch” 11.30.97 I

The funkiest bitch in history.

Birds > If I Only Had a Brain > Caspian” 7.8.99 II

A gorgeous piece of improv from Virgina Beach; the band seamlessly slipped right into a Phishy take on The Scarecrow’s “If I Only Had a Brain.”

The Gorge

Split Open and Melt” 8.2.97 I

This fusing of “Split’s” menacing nature and the emerging, slowed-down textures of Summer ’97 put a spectacular cap on Phish’s first set ever played at The Gorge.

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.10.94 II

The first-ever Red Rocks “Tweezer”- a seriously dynamic and intense version strewn with Mind Left Body jam overtones.

Mike’s > Life On Mars? > Weekapaug” 11.15.95 II

"Mike's Song"

This multi-dimensional “Mike’s” from Tampa, Florida in Fall ’95, reminds us of the time when “Mike’s Grooves” were psychedelic events in the Phish universe, sparking fires in arenas across the land. And this “Weekapaug” ain’t too shabby either!

Nice GDad! 🙂 And it actually means something…

Nougat (pronounced /ˈnuːɡɨt/ NOO-gət or UK: /ˈnuːɡɑː/ NOO-gah) is a term used to describe a variety of similar traditional confectioneries made with sugar or honey, roasted nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios, or hazelnuts are common), and sometimes chopped candied fruit. The consistency of nougat can range from chewy to hard depending on its composition, and it is used in a variety of candy bars and chocolates.

There are two basic kinds of nougat: white and brown. White nougat (which appeared in Montélimar, France, in the 18th century) is made with beaten egg whites and is soft, whereas brown nougat (called nougatine in French) is made with caramelized sugar and has a firmer, often crunchy texture.

we have made so many nasty gold bond jokes between my friends and i. talk about supporting the one you love. things that would seem unacceptable by most are embraced.

    Re: puffin’ nuggets.

For 4/20, one of the local dispensary is taking 1/2 gram nugs of OG Earth, rolling it in 1/2 gram of honey hash oil, then rolling that in either 1/2 gram keef or beachsand hash. It makes my mouth salivate…

Do any of you request 4/20 off of work? I do…

  11. guyforget Says:

re: hiccups. Have somebody choke you out to the point you feel light headed and your throat hurts. definitely a more balls to the wall approach, but always work, mostly because I think it scares the shit out of you!

  12. kayatosh Says:

frankie: you learned about nuggets from a customs officer? priceless.

    denver nuggets vs. portland blazers

  13. Skyballs Saxscraper Says:

But it must be done by a buxom woman in leather. Holding a whip. With chains… I’ll stop now.

  14. voopa Says:

“Do any of you request 4/20 off of work? I do…”

I used to, before everybody knew why…I still occasionally take 5/15 off in honor of 10/31/95 (5:15)…

  15. kayatosh Says:

  16. guyforget Says:

  17. Skyballs Saxscraper Says:

I have a Denver Nuggets jersey (SU Alum Carmelo Anthony) but I always thought it would be bad form to wear it to a show.

  18. kayatosh Says:

nice voopa. make your own holiday, avoid the crowd.

  19. kayatosh Says:

skballs: wear it. we get it. no head dislikes the nuggets.

I knew about nuggets but my friend wanted to say, ‘huh you mean like chicken nuggets?’ We’re french so it wasn’t part of our code talk… until now…

  22. Skyballs Saxscraper Says:

Then I would be That Guy.

Actually, until now I forgot I had the thing.

  23. Chuck D Says:

Breckenridge, CO; because phish hasn’t played here in 19 years.

  24. Frankie Says:

Those Highgate, VT customs officers know about nuggets…

  25. Luther Justice Says:

I have a shirt that says “I Love Nuggets” I bought at that Wall Drug place out in the middle of nowhere in the Dakotas. I believe they were refering to something else, but come on. How could I resist a souvenir like that?

Same thing happened to me at Graceland w/Elvis sunglasses.
