Ten Tunes For Friday
With two months left until Summer Tour, let’s bust out ten jams for a springtime Friday! These selections span the mid to late-’90s, with some real gems in the playlist. Enjoy the music folks, and have a great weekend.

“Stash” 3.30.93 I
One of the first profoundly expansive versions of “Stash” helped lay the foundation for the explosive year of 1993.

“Funky Bitch” 11.30.97 I
The funkiest bitch in history.

“Birds > If I Only Had a Brain > Caspian” 7.8.99 II
A gorgeous piece of improv from Virgina Beach; the band seamlessly slipped right into a Phishy take on The Scarecrow’s “If I Only Had a Brain.”

“Split Open and Melt” 8.2.97 I
This fusing of “Split’s” menacing nature and the emerging, slowed-down textures of Summer ’97 put a spectacular cap on Phish’s first set ever played at The Gorge.

“Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.10.94 II
The first-ever Red Rocks “Tweezer”- a seriously dynamic and intense version strewn with Mind Left Body jam overtones.

“Mike’s > Life On Mars? > Weekapaug” 11.15.95 II
This multi-dimensional “Mike’s” from Tampa, Florida in Fall ’95, reminds us of the time when “Mike’s Grooves” were psychedelic events in the Phish universe, sparking fires in arenas across the land. And this “Weekapaug” ain’t too shabby either!

Homework for the weekend: Kezar Stadium ’75 & Island Tour Revisits with some nougats…
Later!
This Simple is definately not taking after its namesake…
It’s time for me to put the Island Tour back down for awhile. I have been beating it to death recently. It ended up on every computer/ipod/etc I have and the CDs are at the top of all the various stacks
“I’ve got a story ain’t got no morals
let the bad guy win every once in awhile”
preach it Billy!
we have made so many nasty gold bond jokes between my friends and i. talk about supporting the one you love. things that would seem unacceptable by most are embraced.
^ summer tour without Goldbonds….just turn around and go home. And I hope u are using the green extra-strength!
Respect the voodoo herb!
@frankie -last year@ festivus was the best music i have ever heard/seen in VT period! I grew up with Dave (bass player in Toubab) and it takes place on his fam’s farm in Cabot, VT. this year its July 9th-11th i think(web page will be up 15th of April). Everyone on the BB should look in to this fest while it is still small and accesible. Great location, food, people, music and vibes! and with only 2000 tickets sold its large enough to have a great party while maintaining a family atmosphere. There is a we are in Vermont we do what we want attitude at this festival. meaning everything is game as long as we all look out and take care of each other. It reminds me of what the Vermont Reggae Fest and Bread & Puppet use to be before they got to big.
this will be a repeat story for some, and borderlines on groupie territory for me, but fuck it, it was a memorable event from leg 2 of summer tour
so we are at the airport after shoreline, waiting to fly to seattle for gorge
we see Mike Gordon roaming through the airport
no big deal, i started seeing shows in 94 and they used to hang around in the parking lot, even saw them play in the parking lot in Indiana
but, then he is waiting at our gate, now is when it gets interesting because for this flight we had treated ourselves and booked 6 first class tickets
with some deductive reasoning and process of elimination i figured there wasn’t too many other seats available in first class, and that Gordo was most likely in one of them
so, i end up across the aisle from him, his wife and his baby
after a simple greeting “hey Mike”, i decided to play it cool and just do my normal thing (which last summer was a little photo organizing on my macbook)
so i’m sitting there organizing my photos from shoreline, and my buddy is making all kinds of faces at his baby, entertaining her quite well
after a while i could tell he could see my photos, which were mostly of his band from RR and shoreline, so i end up showing him some photo’s and talking about our families for a while
we were talking about everything except for Phish, then i can’t remember exactly how, but he brought up Phish
so ask “now that we are talking about Phish, what are you going to play for Halloween?” he responds “meatloaf into thriller”
then the conversation turned to Phish banter
he spoke of why we didn’t want to miss Darien cuz John McLaughlin was coming out as a guest.
his churning of the rumor mill went on for a while until his wife woke up and gave him a dirty look that i read as “shut the f up your getting these guys all riled up”
so he gave me his “Guitar Player” magazine and tried to go to sleep
anyway a very unique experience and pretty random
oh and the next show was pretty good too
what up all? tied up all day. seems i have entered at a strange moment.
That Gordo is top shelf. Top shelf.
Nice, butter. Don’t think I’ve read all those details about your Mike encounter before.
On a scale of 1 to 2, I give it a 2
Angryjoggerz
I think you need to post those 2 mp3 mixes you did a couple of weeks ago….f’in sweet. Been spinning those a lot lately.

Can’t vouche for it, but looks dope.
Happy weekend!
Sounds like many of us will be renting actual houses for the Greek shows, so there’s plenty of options ahead…now where’s my tickets?
Meat is against the law in Berkeley, man
