Stash” 3.30.93 I

One of the first profoundly expansive versions of “Stash” helped lay the foundation for the explosive year of 1993.

Birds > If I Only Had a Brain > Caspian” 7.8.99 II

A gorgeous piece of improv from Virgina Beach; the band seamlessly slipped right into a Phishy take on The Scarecrow’s “If I Only Had a Brain.”

The Gorge

Split Open and Melt” 8.2.97 I

This fusing of “Split’s” menacing nature and the emerging, slowed-down textures of Summer ’97 put a spectacular cap on Phish’s first set ever played at The Gorge.

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.10.94 II

The first-ever Red Rocks “Tweezer”- a seriously dynamic and intense version strewn with Mind Left Body jam overtones.

Mike’s > Life On Mars? > Weekapaug” 11.15.95 II

"Mike's Song"

This multi-dimensional “Mike’s” from Tampa, Florida in Fall ’95, reminds us of the time when “Mike’s Grooves” were psychedelic events in the Phish universe, sparking fires in arenas across the land. And this “Weekapaug” ain’t too shabby either!

    Does anyone else want Fishman to take a drum solo at the end of Limb by Limb? Extend it out for 2-4 minutes more?
    Am I the only one who wants this?
    I am not a big “drum solo” guy but that drum style during LxL gives me a chubby.

  2. Stupendous Says:

    yall think AW is a lurker now?

  3. HarryHood Says:

    Man I love the old Mike’s Grooves……. Dear Phish, can you please bring this song back to it’s true form? Thank you, HarryHood.

  4. Mitch Says:

    am i the only one on here that actually likes string cheese? *ducks*

    i feel like the widespread fan on here but i dont like them.

    not saying i wanna do hullaween. im just sayin.

  5. voopa Says:

    @Marco

    Sacramento Kings’ TV announcer Grant Napier, a/k/a Circus Freak. Can’t stand him.

    I like your attitude, dood. I say you should go for CMAC if you can make it. Remember, if the best show is the next show then the worst show is the one you miss…

  7. HarryHood Says:

    Mango Mitch,

    Thanks again for the Island run DVD. Got it early this week. Great stuff man! Can I send you $ for the postage at least?

  8. cal Says:

    Morning, all. SCI–they gotta make a living somehow, right?

    I’m sorry, I can’t agree with you, Stup. I think SCI would still be last on my list if you factor in the five options you mentioned. Particularly tDB/STS9; those are both potentially top-notch bands. SCI is almost a guaranteed snoozefest for my sensibilities.

  9. marcoesq Says:

    ^MItch, I used to dig seeing SCI, not so much anymore. They have some good tunes but a lot of their shit is so happy go lucky

    Chris Rabold, WSP’s sounds guy, said it best on this one Panic DVD. Basically he said:

    With all the jambands out their, most of them have been able to capture the essence of what the Dead did live

    With SCI, they only brought the happy shit from those shows out of that and thats why they seem so fake. They have no dark to complement the light

  10. sam3.0 Says:

    first post after months of lurking. hello BB

  11. KWL Says:

    hey y’all

    @Neemor, I’ll see ya at CMAC 😉

    @BTB and Mitch, sorry I split yesterday–yes, I’ll be at telluride, and Mitch, tell Ms Mango there are showers at the high school camping spot!

    for another bitch that is funky (if short b/c of segue), check 12.12.97. Love that one.

    Buffalo Bill in 2010!

    Re: JOTD

    This Mike’s is Silent in the Morning when you click to download

  13. HarryHood Says:

    Neemor,

    One of my really good friends that I took to his first show this summer lives 10 minutes from CMAC. He bought me a ticket and I just can’t justify driving 5 hours from home with the kiddo on the way. Even SPAC will be pushing it, but at least it’s only 2 hours. Which is exactly why I’m telling you that you HAVE to go to that show if you can. It’s going to be the show of the summer. I can feel it.

  14. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

    @Mitch
    I have had numerous great experiences seeing SCI (somewhat related to my time in CO coinciding with their peak) and definitely enjoy listening to their music from time to time. But I’ve never tried to hold them up against Phish like others do, so for me its not an issue in that regard.

    That said, we used to go to their shows laughing a lot of the time at the HHM (Happy Hippie Movement – our phrase) element of it that marco’s quote above speaks to. it can get to be a little over the top at times.

  15. Chuck D Says:

    Eleven Tunes for Friday.

    Thanks for the bonus.

  16. HarryHood Says:

    This Mike’s is perfect with my morning coffee/job hunt.

  17. voopa Says:

    @Ladle

    I saw some 3 day passes on ebay yesterday…think they were around $300-400…

  18. Stupendous Says:

    Mitch I used to like them back in 99-01

    but mainly because I hadnt had the chance to see that many phish shows

    at the time and I could feel the sci scene growing and evolving and i felt

    like i could be a part of the evolution, once 02 came around imo the band

    lost it, and was never the same… plus i started realizing that their tones

    were bad to my taste and grew out of liking them > really disliking them.

    it just got old quick, cant even relisten to shows i used to like.

    Also ive grown a lot musically since then. That was when I even went to

    my only wsp show to give them a chance…. after a while i realized i was in

    search of magic in places that there simply wasnt any.

  19. Cushion Convector Says:

    Happy Friday Everyone!!

    ^ SCI is really trying to pull this off? I agree w. cal that would totally get me in the mood for a nap. And as for tDB, things have been declining for quite some time. Just my opinion.

    Has anyone else (aside from Marco Esq) seen the drop in ticket prices already for a large majority of the big venues. I shall definitely be looking on lot for Camden and MPP.

    I don’t understand these people on craigslist and ebay who think they will get $800 per ticket…INSANITY

  20. Neemor Says:

    Thanks guys, I’ve decided to go.
    Same fellow also has a Hershey for me.
    Mango, can you and the missus make the Hershey show?
    Let me know.

    This morning’s Stash is great.
    Check it out.

  21. BTB Says:

    Willowed – Very funny at IT Fest how the band (trey) left Fish out to dry on that Limb by Limb outro –

    Fishman’s even said it himself, “if i took a drum solo everyone would go take a piss”

    Here’s to that solo though.

  22. Mr.Palmer Says:

    Kaveh- yes, i got it yesterday. I mentioned it yesterday afternoon, i guess you weren’t around. Thank you much, your a good man.

  23. BTB Says:

    neemor – I’m doing Hershey. BTB Fest > Hershey > 4 hours of sleep > JOTD (work)

  24. marcoesq Says:

    @TIII

    You said what I wasn’t able to, they were/are fine in their own right as long as you don’t hold them up against what obviously all of us on here hold as our true love

    That being said, I most likely would never see them again as long as Phish is in full swing but you never know

  25. Halden Says:

    I love Dinosaur Jr but man does it bring working hours to a painful crawl…
