Weekend Nuggets: International Phish

Osaka 2000

Listening to Prague ’98 this week inspired me to dig into the international archives. I’ve dug up two stellar show, continents apart. The Osaka show from 200 features a creatively demented “Down With Disease” that may be the greatest jam that nobody talks about from Phish’s prolific run in the Pacific. The first set “Ghost” brings another dark-horse highlight from a show that took place three stories up in a massive shopping complex, (the second show of Japan to take place within in an elevated shopping plaza!)

The second selection comes from the transformative tour of Summer ’97, and the band’s gooey, raw funk is on full display throughout. The second set brings the heat from start to finish, bookended by thick explorations of “Wolfman’s” and “Ghost.” Have a great weekend!

Bathtub > funk > Gin” 7.10.97 I

A relic from Marseilles, France in early Summer ’97; back when tapers tracked “funk” jams, and Phish grooved unmercifully.

but hte desire itself is yet to recede

  2. willowed Says:

It will never go away Silly. It will change though.
At your age you will have sex with women
At our age we will have sex with our hand watching porn.

  3. Corey Says:

    @El Duderino…still commendable.
That’s around where I’m at too. Now I’m gonna have to go through and count ’em up. 🙂

Love the (repeated) heads up on all those GD shows. I miss seeing Jerry and the boys. Nothing like a Grateful Dead show, eh?

  4. Angryjoggerz Says:

You can plan and imagine and read everything about how to be a parent, but the instant your first child comes into this world, an unimaginable feeling bubbles up inside of you and transforms you into a parent. Indescribable but very real.

    Very true.

    I was 35.

  5. Mr.Palmer Says:

2 kids was a breeze. The 3rd one was the push over the cliff. Complete accident. Once you have the 3rd kid , you have to go to a 2-3 zone defense. no more man to man. There are always holes in the zone. The kiddies know how to find them.

    @willowed. LOL

@ mr.c thanks. I practice/teach yoga. I think it could time for me to go back through The door again; it’s been 16 years. and back in 94, during those experiences i never felt more alive.

  7. kayatosh Says:

wow, palms. 2-3 zone D. hilarious. hang tough, bro.

  8. SillyWilly Says:

Its something Ive always wondered about.

One thing Ive really noticed being in a relationship for 3 years now. I used to just wanna have sex. Now, I just wanna have sex with her….

Of course, its not that simple, but more and more I just want her.

    Ill stop being sentimental.

  9. kayatosh Says:

    34 when #1 arrived

  10. lastwaltzer Says:

no room in your heart f0r stef silly?

  11. willowed Says:

You are so right Mr. P.
Once you are outnumbered you are fucked! They look small and innocent, but those little basterds are sneaky!

  12. Lycanthropist Says:

my wife and i’s problem is our conflicting schedules.

I see her maybe an hour to two hours a day and its usually late at night.

I wake up at 5 AM every morning and she either works til 3AM or is in the art studio til about 1 AM every night cause of school.

Point being is that the time we do get together is not a time when we are both able to give it our all. This was starting to put a huge rift in our relationship.

But the simple tools of communication helped a lot.

I still dont see her much, but we both make all the effort in the world to make time for each other and use that time well.

  16. EL Duderino Says:

    @ Corey

When Phish called it quits after Coventry I was fine with it. Not until they came back did I realize how much I missed the shows/scene.

With GD/Jerry I’ve never really gotten over the fact that I’ll never get to see a GD show again. I Miss My Jerry Licks daily.

Phish shows are awesome but GD shows are the grand daddy of them all.

  17. SillyWilly Says:

    stef would overpower me.

hard to perform when you’re scared for your life.

  18. Lycanthropist Says:

this Ghost from 6-15-00 is gorgeous!

  19. neemor Says:

    Gentlemen, wonderful stuff today.
My issues with women are so outlandish and far-reaching that I won’t even begin to comment…they completely baffle me.
And I’m pretty sure it will always be that way and I’m not alone.

    That being said:
I love great blackboard advice…never to be taken lightly.

willowed: You are one delinquent mo fo and if you two clowns drop without me, I will shut you out.
You hear ME?! SHUT YOU TWO OUT!
    That feels better.

Clearly, I need to hop off that cliff again, it’s been a while.

Although, life is really simple and good right now, I don’t think I necessarily need to revisit that side anymore.
    I guess we’ll see.

I will say, however, that the idea of flying up an on ramp after the Hartford show with cub and Leo doing 110 with a head full of L and that crazed look in my eyes as they hold on for dear life is a very appealing vision.

    Again, we’ll see….

This place is pretty amazing. It so easily could just go bad (pretty heavy topics), but it seems like people keep it really respectable and respectful. Very cool, well done. Happy to be here, hope I can add rather than subtract. Peace.
