Weekend Nuggets: International Phish

Osaka 2000

Listening to Prague ’98 this week inspired me to dig into the international archives. I’ve dug up two stellar show, continents apart. The Osaka show from 200 features a creatively demented “Down With Disease” that may be the greatest jam that nobody talks about from Phish’s prolific run in the Pacific. The first set “Ghost” brings another dark-horse highlight from a show that took place three stories up in a massive shopping complex, (the second show of Japan to take place within in an elevated shopping plaza!)

The second selection comes from the transformative tour of Summer ’97, and the band’s gooey, raw funk is on full display throughout. The second set brings the heat from start to finish, bookended by thick explorations of “Wolfman’s” and “Ghost.” Have a great weekend!

Jam of the Weekend:

A relic from Marseilles, France in early Summer ’97; back when tapers tracked “funk” jams, and Phish grooved unmercifully.

    @ not tom – 400??? n00b…

  2. willowed Says:

Yolker….keep us posted. we will do that!

  3. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

I don’t have the hard drive space for the lossless and don’t fill like dealing with putting everything over onto a separate drive.

320 kpbs mp3 is good enough for me, considering the volume of the music. I’ve got enough FLAC/WAV shows to satisfy.

  4. EL Duderino Says:

    I’m currently @ 496 shows.

You can find the dates here…

  5. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

Neemor, kung fu and the breakfast are playing iron horse in northampton tonight I believe. I can’t make it but are you trekking up?

  6. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

I think I’m obsessing with having more shows … I don’t even have enough time to listen to what I have already got.

    This is a sickness.

  7. jdub Says:

@nonyolker, What part of CT did you originate from?

  8. Kenny Powers Says:

What’s up nonoyolker! thanks again for that shot at TAB!

  9. EL Duderino Says:

In regards to lossless vs lossy.

The well rendered soundboards to lossy format your not gonna notice much.
But when it comes to the Aud’s…
It’s significant! like night and day IMHO.

  10. nonoyolker Says:

@ willowed – for sure man. Actually, I think we’ve hung out before, just by piecing some shit together. Did you hang out on some dude’s roof in the North End of Boston before the Fenway show, because if so, that was my roof…

You are friends with Matty, right (blanking on his last name)?

  11. [Not Tom] Marshall Says:

I hear ya el dude. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

  12. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

Good luck today, nono, you’re gonna need it. By the end of the day your head will probably be swimming and maybe a little overwhelmed. There’s a ton of crap out there to sift through before you find the gems.

  13. EL Duderino Says:

But with externals so cheap now and forever getting cheaper, even cheeper than buying blank cdr’s now, it’s not that big ‘o deal.

  14. nonoyolker Says:

@ Jdub – from Middlebury (aka suburbia squared). It’s between Waterbury and Danbury on 84. The real heartland of the Nutmeg State.

@KP – what’s good man? was good to see a Phishthoughts tee in the crowd that night. Hope you had a killer show. I was able to get down to the front rail. Tried to cut off a lock of Red’s hair, but security totally spazzed. Security has become ridiculous at shows… ::shakes head slowly::

  15. willowed Says:

    I sure fucking did!!
    Me and Matt Golia

  16. willowed Says:

Were you rockin the NBA Jersey?

  17. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

What time works for you tomorrow? I think I’m flying solo so I can be in tolland whenever works for you.

Last call: any other peeps want to meet up with jdub and I for some disc golf tomorrow?

  18. willowed Says:

I can’t fucking believe it. That shit is so funny!!!
I have the cool as pic with you chillin’ on the wall and the guitar!
That was a great freakin’ day.
    This site is great!!

  19. nonoyolker Says:

Thanks TIII, and thanks for all the side advice offline. Much appreciated. I think today is going to be exhausting. There is a lot of crap in the north end…

  20. nonoyolker Says:

That was you Willowed, HA! Funny, fucking, small world! That is really wild man, great time… We’ll have to get up for some of these East coast shows!

Matty still around? I was going to try to meet up with him in Indio I think, but it feell threw.

Pretty sure you picked me up at my folks house, with mrs yolker, and gave us a ride back to the bean. Danka again for the generosity

I was rocking my Paul Pierce Kansas jersey (my tour jersey). Shit is a MUST come tour time. Everyone needs a jersey to believe in

  21. willowed Says:

That is great! You still livin in the same spot? Looks like you’re searching right now?
I sure do see Matty. We are doing the entire “upper” North East Run together.
    Hartford (both nights)
    SPAC (both nights)
    JB in leg 2
I have hotel rooms for Spac and GW if you need a place to crash!
I still got your cell if I’m not mistaken
    take my e-mail
jonathan dot bailey at quinnipiac dot edu

  22. jdub Says:

T3, how does high noon sound. I’ll be bringing Caleb along, possibly my buddy Scott and his son. I love that course, hopefully we’ll get good weather.

Nonyolker, don’t they call that area the All American Valley or something like that? I’m originaly from East Haddam, south of Middletown.

  23. willowed Says:

We (Matt and I) were going to do Indio together but my wife dropped the hammer on that!
Which was fine by me. It allowed me a bigger run this summer.

  24. jdub Says:

It is a small world indeed. Most of the time it is only 2 or 3 degrees of separation, especially in the dense northeast.

  25. nonoyolker Says:

@ Willowed – yup, still in the same spot, looking around for something to buy.

Doing most of the “upper NE” run as well. Hitting:
    Hartford (x2)
    SPAC (x2)
JB (x2) – still need to get 2 tix to nite 1

Thinking about GW, but the during the week shows are tough if they are in succession.

I’m not sure if I have your cell after switching plans, but hit me up at nonoyolker at hotmail dot com and we’ll definitely get up!

For hotels, i still don’t have anything booked, but am likely traveling a few peeps deep. Let me know where you’re staying maybe and i can try to get something there or close by.

    Blackboard wins again!

@ Jdub – I think it is called some shit like that. They make it sound like a Normal Rockwell painting… You are in Tolland? That is right near UCONN, no?
