Weekend Nuggets: International Phish

Osaka 2000

Listening to Prague ’98 this week inspired me to dig into the international archives. I’ve dug up two stellar show, continents apart. The Osaka show from 200 features a creatively demented “Down With Disease” that may be the greatest jam that nobody talks about from Phish’s prolific run in the Pacific. The first set “Ghost” brings another dark-horse highlight from a show that took place three stories up in a massive shopping complex, (the second show of Japan to take place within in an elevated shopping plaza!)

The second selection comes from the transformative tour of Summer ’97, and the band’s gooey, raw funk is on full display throughout. The second set brings the heat from start to finish, bookended by thick explorations of “Wolfman’s” and “Ghost.” Have a great weekend!

A relic from Marseilles, France in early Summer ’97; back when tapers tracked “funk” jams, and Phish grooved unmercifully.

    Happy Birthday Jacy!

  3. Robear Says:

and chokes up every time Jerry sings ‘Acroooooooooss the Rio Grand-io’

    5/19/74, the birthday soundtrack.

Thanks for the Miller heads-upses, Kaya and El Dude!

  4. SillyWilly Says:

    Happy birthday, Jacy!

that little story is really getting to me, Robear. Here we all have had the business of living for decades and your little guy is fighting the battle that we are still learning.

I know you’re a great father. Keep up the good work. Your little man can teach us all something about living.

i must be emotional or something in the morning. so much strength in one so young.

  5. Little Buddy Says:

Just checking in for the first time this weekend…

Happy birthday Jacy and KWL! Jacy – From what I’ve heard you are a pretty cool little dude. I hope my boy grows up to be as cool as you!!!

@ Mr. Palmer – I use unrarx to convert .rar files on my mac. Super fast and easy. Just drag and drop…

re: Masters – Should be an interesting day. I am at the office for the next several hour so I’ve DVR’d it and the wife and I will be avoiding other forms of media until we can get together at dinner time to watch, which means I’ll be staying away from here to so I don’t get spoiled. I’m thinking Westwood wins a close one with Phil. Tiger performs well, but its not enough. -14 sounds about right to me too.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend! Every day we get closer to summer. Awwww yeah!

  6. Little Buddy Says:

    One more thing…

    @ Robear

Please remember that I am still willing to try to figure out a way to get you back and forth from the ROC to CMAC if you end up needing help. I think we may be taking our boy to this show – we’ll see.

  7. BingosBrother Says:

  9. DocGanz Says:

    Morning all!
Happy Birthday KWL and little Jacy! Best wishes to you both…
Robear, I am reminded of football player Boomer Esiason’s son Gunner, who wasn’t expected to make it past 2 or 3 years old and now must be in his 20s. As someone who has had life threatening issues of my own, I can appreciate your story, and tell you that appreciating every day lends a new perspective to life, all for the better.
That being said, I’m spinning Jerry Band from 11/23/77 this morning… “Second That Emotion” aptly enough- great way to start a Sunday

  10. SillyWilly Says:

Happy birthday to you, too, KWL!

cant wait for the Alpine>Jones Beach run

  11. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

Happy Birthday to both Jacy and KWL

Jacy sounds like a pretty cool kid Robear. I’m sure he can hang in there.

I hope he realizes how great of a father he has. Just based off of your comments on here, you really seem to be a great person Robear. I wish both you and Jacy the best of luck.

  12. Lycanthropist Says:

happy bday to you too KWL

  13. EL Duderino Says:

    H.B. KWL !!!! 🙂

  14. DocGanz Says:

Guess this didn’t post, so Ill post again.
    @el Dude,
Can you recommend a good Jerry Band show for me to find this morning- a show or an era. I don’t have a ton of Jerry shows, have been digging 77 lately. Any help would be appreciated.

    And to the Board,
I have Miner’s Picks for 93 and 98 (Laid Back Funk). I intend to rip as many as possible, but whats another recommended mix? Was thinking of starting on December 95…

  15. flarrdogg Says:

This place is awesome- continues to amaze me.

    Happy Birthday, Jacy and KWL

Palmer- I’m no computer expert and made the switch to mac about a year ago. Had many of the same type of questions you’re having- how to expand rar files, how to rock torrents, switching music files to be compatible. Just ask and try not to feel like a newb. I had every conceivable question answered by kind folks here. Have a great day all- gonna go hit some balls after golf covo yesterday.

  16. flarrdogg Says:

Also, I use stuffit for expanding files. Free and Miner recommended it. Works great, but I think they’re all kinda the same.

  17. joe Says:

    @doc. I like 1980 jerry band.

  18. DocGanz Says:

    Thanks, Joe

  19. joe Says:

love the comment at the end of the farmhouse video about thinking about girls and money. also, is there a really tall japanese woman in the audience? or are the people around her really short? (kind of back middle)

note: I’ve reached the silly point of my work shift now. just struggling to stay sane until 4pm.

  20. Mr.Miner Says:
