Weekend Nuggets: International Phish

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Osaka 2000

Listening to Prague ’98 this week inspired me to dig into the international archives. I’ve dug up two stellar show, continents apart. The Osaka show from 200 features a creatively demented “Down With Disease” that may be the greatest jam that nobody talks about from Phish’s prolific run in the Pacific. The first set “Ghost” brings another dark-horse highlight from a show that took place three stories up in a massive shopping complex, (the second show of Japan to take place within in an elevated shopping plaza!)

The second selection comes from the transformative tour of Summer ’97, and the band’s gooey, raw funk is on full display throughout. The second set brings the heat from start to finish, bookended by thick explorations of “Wolfman’s” and “Ghost.” Have a great weekend!

Jam of the Weekend:

Bathtub > funk > Gin” 7.10.97 I

A relic from Marseilles, France in early Summer ’97; back when tapers tracked “funk” jams, and Phish grooved unmercifully.

    Thanks, Miner!

  2. EL Duderino Says:

    @ DocGanz

Do you have Legion Of Mary 4/19/75 Oriental Theater – Milwaukee, WI. ???

  3. Lycanthropist Says:

i second the Dec 95 mix

and if you are looking for long get lost in them kind of groves

the 99 mixes are good too

  4. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Good morning, all. Straight to the heartstrings this morning. Inspired me to chime in. Happy Bday to Jacey and KWL.

I was so blown away by Miner’s 8/93 compilation, not knowing that era well. Now going to start on the 12/95’s.

  5. voidboy Says:

    Hey all,

just finished 12.30.95 myself. Great show.

  6. DocGanz Says:

I do have the Legion of Mary- love it. Thanks all for the suggestions.

    Miner,
Am sending some fundage your way as a small token of my appreciation for all you do and providing this Board for all to commune on.

  7. Robear Says:

void, that 12/30/95 was so smokin’ hot, that me and my friend almost skipped the next night. I know, right? Good thing we didn’t. There were NO tickets to be found. Big D and I get on the subway, and head up town to catch ‘Blues Traveler’ for NYE instead. We get off the subway, look at each other and say
“Are we stupid! Let’s get back to the Garden and get some tickets!”

I Jedi up to will call with a group of people that actually had tickets, then hung out long enough to find two guys, each with an extra. They did not want to go back outside to get rid of the tickets, so they sold them to me for face, plus two hemp belts that I made.

The rest is Phishtory. Of course, we also scored back stage passes, but that’s a whole nother story. Find me at the Oasis this year for details. It’s a doozey!

  8. Mr. Completely Says:

@DocGanz “I don’t have a ton of Jerry shows, have been digging 77 lately. ”

7/29/77 Theatre 1839 is where it’s at, they made it an official release awhile back

3/18/78 is another easy to find, great show from that general era

    @Robear re: Half-Step: u haz 9/3/77? DP 15. Best there is.

  9. voidboy Says:

Damn Robear I love that story. Seriously mind tricking your way into the event… reminds me of the “walking backwards into the show” story from earlier.

  10. Robear Says:

C, will check. if not, will grab this week

  11. voidboy Says:

Where’s the “Oasis?”. Sadly my summer tickets were not to be. 7 month old baby girl is first priority right now…. but as soon as she’s old enough to “camp over” at Grandma’s… I’ll be back on the hunt for ticket gold.

  12. Robear Says:

similar move, voidboy. at MSG, you have to show your receipt to an usher to get inside to the will call. I just waited for big group of heads going into the will call area. I forced myself into the center of their circle and squeezed past the usher cking receipts. Once inside, just had to avoid the security that wanted to know why it was taking me so long to get my will call tickets!

  13. Robear Says:

void, location for Oasis II yet to be determined. We do have a nice pitstop lined up for the Greek run though. Any chance of you hitting those?

  14. Mr. Completely Says:

@Palmer – MAc right? you just need Stuffit Expander. Free.

  15. Tzara's Ghost Says:

For Half Step, I’m in the ’73-’74 camp I think. I just like the airy, contrapuntal sound for that song i.e. DP 1 or 14 over the arena rock sound.

That said, I’ll put the Englishtown on right now and probably eat crow.

    *tung*
wait that sounds about a half step flat

    *ting*
    there we go

  16. Tzara's Ghost Says:

@robear, C, others. Where are you staying for the Greeks? Got a sweet rental in Berkeley Hills, hoping there will be some meetup chances up there.

  17. voidboy Says:

Was the original plan but regretfully had to pass as my wife was being pushed out of the mix (baby). She said I could fly solo but I didn’t have the heart to leave her.

If a loose ticket should appear on the horizon for a night, it would be hard to turn down, but no worries… we’ll see what happens as the show approaches.

Did you score for all three nights?

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

@ Whole Tour. Do you have anything to trade for a 7/4 section 103?

I need Hartfords, SPAC1, JBs, or MPPs, or Camden1…

  19. Mr.Miner Says:

    @ Doc. Thanks man!

  20. Mr.Miner Says:

Would love to keep the TTFFriday going with some routine, small-level donations….so far so good.. 🙂 thanks guys..

  21. ChefBradford Says:

I’m still looking for 7/3 and an upgrade from lawn on 7/4. Nothing to trade, unfortunately

  22. Robear Says:

tzara’s, pre-party for sure. we’re less than 2 miles from the greek. i have to go in early 4 waterwheel. usually 1:45 before doors.

house sounds sweet. yard, hammock, hot tub. gotta tune up my bike and i’ll be in business.

HDTV never looks any better than CBS’s coverage of The Masters. No scrolling tickers, no CBS logos, just pure unadulterated hi-vision.

  24. voidboy Says:

    @Robear,

Sounds like you’ve got a good plan going there.
