Weekend Nuggets: International Phish

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Osaka 2000

Listening to Prague ’98 this week inspired me to dig into the international archives. I’ve dug up two stellar show, continents apart. The Osaka show from 200 features a creatively demented “Down With Disease” that may be the greatest jam that nobody talks about from Phish’s prolific run in the Pacific. The first set “Ghost” brings another dark-horse highlight from a show that took place three stories up in a massive shopping complex, (the second show of Japan to take place within in an elevated shopping plaza!)

The second selection comes from the transformative tour of Summer ’97, and the band’s gooey, raw funk is on full display throughout. The second set brings the heat from start to finish, bookended by thick explorations of “Wolfman’s” and “Ghost.” Have a great weekend!

Jam of the Weekend:

Bathtub > funk > Gin” 7.10.97 I

A relic from Marseilles, France in early Summer ’97; back when tapers tracked “funk” jams, and Phish grooved unmercifully.

    nonoyolker –

did you see about a month or so back on the BB that Willowed and I realized we went to the same tiny Catholic school together for 7 years, one grade apart? And played on the same school basketball time one year? Crazy stuff@

  13. Kaveh Says:

    Good morning everyone!

Well, I woke up to an email telling me that the trade for Greek Theatre tickets isn’t happening (not because of me.)

So, I have 2 Walnut Creek pavilions, 2 Charlotte pavilions and 2 July 4 Pit tickets for trade for either Friday or Saturday Greeks. And I’m open to offers; like 2 for 1, things like that. So let me know, as I appreciate the help.

    Time for coffee!

  14. kayatosh Says:

@jdub: “Kids=no sex, the way it is. Women view the need for sex after children as pointless, the work has been done.”

exactly. once you have kids your sex life is forever changed. 2-3 times a month for me tops. and it’s become somewhat mechanical and uninspiring. and should i raise any objections or suggets that i’m feeling unloved, i get the stink eye. might just give up. my marriage is dissolving.

never marry an ambitious/self-directed/self-confident woman. she ‘ll always leave you wanting, while she pursues what she wants.

  15. kayatosh Says:

stink eye and a tongue lashing.

  16. kayatosh Says:

after they have kids, it’s like they’re doing you a favor. Ok, you can go down on me now. you have a 5 minute window. yay, lucky me.

  17. willowed Says:

    Kenny P
Crazy indeed. We wil no doubt meet up on the road this year.
    Spinning The Tweezer from 6/24/2000
    It’s a funktacular version.
Mike is on fire. I see a footbell in the near future
    *dong*
    bassier tone

  18. willowed Says:

    That shit is funny Kaya.
If you looked down there when your kid was coming out you’ll never go down there again!
I stayed at eye level for all three!

  19. Robear Says:

    have mercy.

    two great kids, happily divorced.

i’m one of those cats that mostly listened to Phish shows I attended, before finding this site.

Last night, I watched and heard, night 1 of the Island Run in it’s entirety for the first time.

I can’t explain what happened to my brain during ‘Twist’. in-compre-un-fathom-hensible

  20. willowed Says:

every once and a while you have to crush up an E pill and put it in her drink.
That will create a love fest!
Or just get her drunk on tequila. You’ll either fight or have sex but which ever one happens, it will be epic!

  21. kayatosh Says:

? for el dude: how did charlie miller become charlie miller? how does he have access to all those SBDs and what does he do to them to make them sound so clean? For as many miller tapes as I have, I should erect a shrine in his honor. always quality. also eldude, any notale highlights from 4-12-78. is this the one where the vocals were off until midway through the first set or is that 73 at duke?

  22. buddysmyles Says:

@phamily berzerker- yes i was using live phish to make that mix. Also it was a youtube of freebird from portland 09′ that finally convinced my co-worker to want a taste of phish. too funny!

  23. Mr. Completely Says:

@kaya, that’s sad to hear. Your situation sounds tough. It’s really messed up when a couple’s sex drives aren’t matched.

It’s definitely true that many women don’t understand the way the male sex drive is tied directly to happiness. It’s not a choice or something we say to manipulate them. It’s actually how it is and if she is not treating that part of you with respect then that’s a terrible thing and you deserve better. Some women do definitely trivialize their partner’s needs and that’s not OK at all.

It doesn’t have to be like that though. For some women it just takes a little time to get back up to speed. I’m sorry that’s not happening for you.

  24. kayatosh Says:

@willowed: “If you looked down there when your kid was coming out you’ll never go down there again! I stayed at eye level for all three!”

maybe that’s it, i looked for both of mine. nasty.

and 3 kids??? how do you dudes do it? i have 2 and i’m toast.

  25. willowed Says:

    I drink heavily
