Ten Tunes For Friday

12.3.09 (W.Rogell)

Don’t look now, but it’s almost May! Summer tour sits but six weeks away. Until then, we’ll continue celebrating Fridays with Ten Tunes. This week’s playlist features diverse selections between ’93 and 2000. Enjoy the jams and the weekend!

Tweezer” 12.31.93 II

I hadn’t spun this “Tweezer” in a while – wow! A top-notch jam that opened the second set of New Year’s Eve features some straight up funk stylings fused with the balls-out energy and precision of ’93 – a devastating combination.

2001 > David Bowie” 10.27.95 II

This deep dive into darkness features a furious opening half with Trey speaking in tongues, before the band resets the jam halfway through.

7.31.09 (G.Lucas)

Split > Buffalo Bill > Makisupa > Rift” 10.29.94 I

This ending of the first set features some point-on improv and great transitions from the band in their last show before Halloween. (We’ll count this selection as two songs.)

Ghost” 11.11.98 II

While the “Halley’s” gets most of the attention from Van Andel ’98, this second-set closing “Ghost” is one of the best of the tour.

Stash” 8.28.93 I

This first-set version from Phish’s tour finale features some mind-bending, full-band interplay.

Bathtub Gin” 9.29.00 I

The impressive first-setter gets into some infectious grooving, offering, arguably, the best jam over the band’s last Vegas stand before hiatus.

Free” 11.9.98 I

This chunky first set version from UIC 98’s third night became an instant classic.

Reba” 12.7.95 II

A phenomenal version from one of the stronger shows of December ’95.

YEM” 6.9.00 E

On Japan 2000’s opening night, Phish dropped this swank, laid back encore in Tokyo.

At least your smilin’ AW/Bouncin’ 🙂

  2. SillyWilly Says:

I think a ben folds is a chair.

one of those that lawn boy would sit in.

  3. albert walker Says:

I enjoyed hanging out here a lot the first year back
I have to admit I’ve been enjoying lurking lately

all the cross currents going round in our Country lately combined with the effects on the market yesterday I just needed to drop in and make some quick points.

will def drop in for some tour talk and my too opinionated perspective. hitting the first 3 to start out. not much to say with no new music.

all the uncertainties in the world are making us pretty busy at work. makes anything more than quick glances kind of tough during the day.

and like I said Lurking is fun.

    have a great weekend.
    laterz.

    go Hawks

  4. kayatosh Says:

    aw: you going short monday?

  5. Robear Says:

    unlike some other ’97 shows,

this 12/11 Rochester outing is not over rated, IMO.

if you cats don’t have it, there’s a nice matrix on bt.etree.org

i’ll seed it tonight. have to watch bandwidth restrictions.

still on the first set, and just washed with sublime playing and powerful intent

  6. albert walker Says:

    kaya

this is what I was trying to convey speaking earlier. follow the trend and wait for the catalyst. I don’t follow my own advice either but this market is following the road map of last quarter to the tee. it seems like this market just doesn’t roll over. it needs a specific reason and happens to have happened last quarter and this quarter towards the middle of earnings season and the catalyst both times has been European debt issues.

so for me I would use the last pullback as a guide as long as most of the data coming through is more or less in line

real positive could maybe snapback the pullback. negative could keep it going.

I don’t even think the last one was 10%. maybe 7%. can’t remember. but I do believe there are a few more days left of this.

The vix is up. got a little sloppy on Friday. broke through a few technicals.

I’d try to sell into some strength if I did though. don’t want a snapback from Friday to get you upside down right from the open or anything ilke that.

I still like the markets long term.

but what the fuck do I know

  7. albert walker Says:

as long term I meant through 2010.

cheap money with no where to go.
    stocks should keep going up.

just keep a watch on the housing data
only thing that could derail this thing

  8. Robear Says:

    ^ en ingles’ por favor?

what should i do with my $?

  9. joe Says:

hey Hockey fans, know of any internet streams of the broadcasts at all? stuck at work while the bruins game is on is fucking killing me.

  10. joe Says:

radio broacast is on here but I would like to watch it if possible.

  11. Mr.Palmer Says:

Joe- NHL.com usually has them. I just checked and it said no because it was nationally televised. I’m not sure of any other avenues.

  12. albert walker Says:

Kaya trades real short term Robear

he’s trying to maybe trade the rest of this little dip set off because the eurozone is falling apart and there is a hole in the earth with oil pouring out
the GS harassment (right or wrong) isn’t helping either.

through at least 2010 the 0% interest rates means there is a lot of cheap money needed to be put somewhere. with the 10 year treasury at 4% that’s not very attractive. equities are a better alternative as long as the data continues to improve.

I’m just more worried what happens down the road with our future growth levels and inflation levels once the stimulus winds down.

more of a 2011 story. I’ll keep you posted. for now I’d stay long.

but like I said what the fuck do I know

  13. albert walker Says:

    now I’m really out

    laterz kids

  14. Dr. Pronoia Says:

    Happy Beltane everyone!

Beautiful day for housework and phish and watching sports in New York

  15. neemor Says:

    Good afternoon, blackboard.

Some serious jams yesterday, Miner gets a well-deserved day off.

    Hope everyone’s out playing.

Robear, hope the little guy’s turning the corner…

  16. Mr.Palmer Says:

Neemor- The Breakfast playing Antelope. Thought you might like this.

  17. neemor Says:

    Palmer:
That show was at Higher Ground in Burlington.
    I was in attendance.
They played their ‘normal’ first set.
Then they came out in costume and played ‘Lawn Boy’ in it’s entirety.
    Then came a surprise guest.
    Mike Gordon.
In a mask to hide his identity.
Played bass for a few songs and slipped into the night.
    Classic evening…

  18. neemor Says:

Notice the drummer, Adrian, in his Fishman frock?

  19. Robear Says:

neems, corner turned. in recovery mode. thx 4 asking!

  20. Mr.Palmer Says:

yes, scary. Sounds like an interesting evening for sure. Are venturing to NJ at all next week for either Phish 3d or Kung Fu?

  21. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

neemor, i love that band and they really do justice to these phish covers. reba from i think 12/29/07 is just out of this world.

ever here their cover of star awars soundtrack? cantina theme is fucking sick.

  22. neemor Says:

    Glad to hear it, Robear!

That was quite the evening. It all blurs together, but that sweatbox raged that night!
I most likely can’t do Jersey at all, we’ll see how things go.
I seriously have to think about a tight leash until tickets are paid for…

PHBW: I have a more recent Reba that they did about three months ago that rivals any energy of any Reba I’ve ever heard.
Timmy can hit notes like no other…love the Breakfast.
    And now there’s Kung Fu?
    Good times.

  23. Dr. Pronoia Says:

Hey Purple – see the movie yet? Just realized it’s playing in Chelsea so I’m going to entice my wife to go sometime soon. Phish with rainbow Chelsea wooks, if such a subspecies exists…

  24. SillyWilly Says:

    Dr. Pro

don’t know if you saw my posts earlier…Plenty of Wisconsin female phans emerging on the streets of Madison and Milwaukee.

Only people that want to talk to me about Phish lately are women.

Wisconsin is my favorite state in the Union.

  25. purplehumpbackwhale Says:

dr p, have tickets to see it at 7 tonight. lil text you my thoughts after i see it… cant wait.

yea i saw they added that chelsea theater. unfortunately i had already boght tix for home when they announced it but no big.
