Ten Tunes For Friday

Asheville 6.9 (Lanser)

Friday has come back around, bringing ten more songs to kick off your weekend. This round, I featured musical couplets, delivering ten tracks in five selections. This week, I mixed a couple post-hiatus highlights into the mix,. Enjoy the pairings and have a great weekend!

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.23.94 II

This is the third consecutive version of “Lifeboy” that dripped out of “Tweezer” during June 1994. This “Tweezer” features prominent jamming on Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love.” (Excuse the nasty tape flip at the end of “Tweezer.”)

Timber Ho!, Jam > Taste” 11.30.96 II

A rare time when a guest enhanced a show, Peter Apfelbaum, on tenor sax, added a whole new element to this sequence, pushing the vibe in the direction of Phish fusion.

Suzy Greenberg > Theme” 12.28.03 II

Miami '03

On the first night of Miami ’03, this unlikely combo formed a significant chunk of set two. Diving far from the structure of “Suzy,” the band entered a menacing passage in which Trey offered a stunning guitar confessional.

Twist > Simple” 11.29.03 II

One of few highlights from ’03’s Turkey Run that stands the test of time.

Makisupa > David Bowie” 10.29.95 II

A devestating “Bowie” from the night before Halloween ’95, in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Neemor,

Put me down for at least one shirt. 4 if the shirts end up being black with gray sleeves and our digital smiley guy on the front. llfa

  5. halcyon Says:

  6. Mr.Palmer Says:

BK- you get to see Phish 3D? That would have been a cool prequel to the show for you and your dad.

Finally getting to listen to yesterday’s DOTD 12.30.98. Sounds decent to my ears.

  7. willowed Says:

I tried a little experiment at Trey at Jones beach (could have been Trey Mike and the Duo) many years back. I think it was the show he played with Warren Hayes. 2003 maybe. I don’t recall.
During pre-game we had a big crew with us all getting messed up. You guys know the deal.
I told my buddies I was going to spin my live collection of Hall and Oates. My friends begged me not to put it in. They thought the heads would think we were total losers.
Threw that bitch on and we had the place raging. My experiment worked.
Conclusion — Hall and Oates rips!!

So if you were at the Jones Beach Trey show back in the day and you were rockin’ to Hall and Oates in the lot, that was me!

  8. willowed Says:

Are the shirts black? I hope not. I don’t where black.
Black = negative energy for me.

Sorry, I am such a Diva

  9. Type III Jamming Personality Disorder Says:

  12. neemor Says:

You know, I’m sitting here spinning from lala.com and I’m wondering why Hall and Oates is ranked #253 and Phish is like #3200.
    Then I started to listen.
    ‘Private Eyes’
    ‘Out of Touch’
    ‘Rich Girl’

    Now I understand.

  13. snowbank Says:

Willowed – that is crazy. My wifey won’t stop playing hall and oats youtube clips. She is going to love that story.

You may have saved her from a trip to the psych ward.

  14. neemor Says:

    Wow, willowed.

Bleieve it or not, My Hall and Oates post had nothing to with yours.

    weird.

  15. flarrdogg Says:

Neem- Educational for me also. I too was raised to believe that spirituality and religion could not be exist apart. It has been remarkable to unwind the two and see more clearly what truly is important and how it all applies. The freedom and ability to figure it out for ourselves, which I’ve been doing a lot of lately, is a great thing. Neat that Jacobs has the same kind of experience- while still able to be tongue in cheek when dealing with the truly absurd.

On a related note, this is awesome:

You can have grey w/ black sleeves if you want…

The tee idea should be up in the next couple days.

  22. neemor Says:

^ we’ve been working on it ‘diligently’ for weeks now.

  23. Phamily Berzerker Says:

    Stash rides at halftime

  24. neemor Says:

and with that, we’re all leaving.
If it looks like TIII and I are leaving together, we’re not.

    Sleep tight, blackboarders.
And I’ll leave you with this little gem of wisdom:

  25. Phamily Berzerker Says:
