Ten Tunes For Friday

Asheville 6.9 (Lanser)

Friday has come back around, bringing ten more songs to kick off your weekend. This round, I featured musical couplets, delivering ten tracks in five selections. This week, I mixed a couple post-hiatus highlights into the mix,. Enjoy the pairings and have a great weekend!

Tweezer > Lifeboy” 6.23.94 II

This is the third consecutive version of “Lifeboy” that dripped out of “Tweezer” during June 1994. This “Tweezer” features prominent jamming on Cream’s “Sunshine of Your Love.” (Excuse the nasty tape flip at the end of “Tweezer.”)

Timber Ho!, Jam > Taste” 11.30.96 II

A rare time when a guest enhanced a show, Peter Apfelbaum, on tenor sax, added a whole new element to this sequence, pushing the vibe in the direction of Phish fusion.

Suzy Greenberg > Theme” 12.28.03 II

Miami '03

On the first night of Miami ’03, this unlikely combo formed a significant chunk of set two. Diving far from the structure of “Suzy,” the band entered a menacing passage in which Trey offered a stunning guitar confessional.

Twist > Simple” 11.29.03 II

One of few highlights from ’03’s Turkey Run that stands the test of time.

Makisupa > David Bowie” 10.29.95 II

A devestating “Bowie” from the night before Halloween ’95, in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Trey (flyer fan) if you are lurking, sorry but my Bruins are going to kick your Flyers ass!!

  3. Mr.Palmer Says:

    If the Flyers get swept you can guarantee Great Woods get a 23 minute TTE this summer…

  4. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

    Hey Lycan

    Ready for CF tonight?

  5. Stupendous a.k.a The Beasel Says:

  6. lycanthropist Says:

    yeh although not sure bout tonights venue. Supposedly its a really swanky resteraunt til 9.

    always get weird bout new venues esp ones that arent condusive to loud music

  7. Mitch Says:

    hows the time capsule beasel?

  8. VoidBoy Says:

    Hey BK!

    How’s the music going?

  9. gavinsdad Says:

    good deal Willowed…that’s a pretty decent mix…lots of solid vocalists on it (i love barrington levy). If you’re ever out of your head…search on Youtube for live Mighty Crown soundsystem performances…it’s absolutely nuts to see these Japanese guys (who run a very respected sound) talk in a patois.

    willowed should click here

  12. VoidBoy Says:

    Lycan,

    Sounds cool though I sense the anxiety(?) I’m amazed you guys play so many shows.

  13. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

    Hey Void!

    It’s going pretty good lately. Funny you mentioned Chopin the other day while listening to my composition – I have to play Chopin’s Etude in D minor by Friday. 🙂

    I’m trying to write something for my music theory class again for an assignment. I need to think a bit more (or a bit less, whatever the case may be)

    Hope you’re doing fine!

  14. lycanthropist Says:

    yeh we try to be booked every weekend.

    and yeh some anxiety for sure. But the owner has seen us plenty before so he should know what to expect

  15. ChefBradford Says:

    break someone’s leg, Lycan. Better theirs than yours, yeah?

    I’m confused. Lady Gaga is billed as one of the headliners of Lollapalooza this year.

    Um. What the fuck?

  16. VoidBoy Says:

    @BK
    The less you “think” the better you’ll play… does that make sense? I don’t really no anything about music (check out Lycan’s trip) but that has been my personal exp. “Learning to crawl” is a great way to put it. Soak it up… keep doing what you’re doing.

  17. Stupendous a.k.a The Beasel Says:

    Tacking TC in tomorrow with hopes of a genius coming to my rescue
    ::blinky eyes::

  18. VoidBoy Says:

    @Lycan,

    I always appreciate the shows you post… it’s amazing to think of being up there playing “live”. I really appreciate what you bring to the table in that regard.

  19. (Formally Known As) BrandonKayda Says:

    ^ Especially in the This Side Up trio material

    Thank you for the advice. I think I just need to relax more when I am trying to write music. I probably get self conscious a bit and end up over-thinking it.

  20. Willowed Says:

    If he gives me a 25 minute TTE because the Bruins win I will personally hand deliver him a Recchi jersey during set break!

  21. VoidBoy Says:

    @BK,
    Practice, practice, practice… let everything fall into place. You are in a good place to make tremendous progress musically, if you stay with it.

  22. Willowed Says:

    Flyers win. No TTE for me at GW!

  23. Frankie Says:

    Phish!

  24. Willowed Says:

    Goodnight all

  25. VoidBoy Says:

    @Willowed,

    I’ll b honest, every time I see that avatar of yours, I chuckle (and think of Hasslehoff… and Hall & Oats?)
